I really don’t like typing on it while it’s standing since I’m not used to it. That said, I have multiple hour long zoom calls per week for my job where all I do is talk, so I should really try standing for those…
As a Catholic myself, I wonder what the church should say/do with regards to technology like this and would like to know where you stand on it. Personally I think that further public discussions need to be held on the morality of potential implementations of AI (I’m thinking ahead by decades once LLMs can really make a dent in the workforce) but question the effectiveness of the Church participating in discussions like that.
I'm a coding tutor and the most frustrating part of my job is when my students use LLM generated code. They have no clue what the code does (or even what libraries they're using) and just care about the pretty output. Whenever I try asking them questions about the code one of them responded verbatim "I dunno" and continued prompting ChatGPT (I ditched that student afterward). Something like Warp where the expectation is to not even interact with the terminal is equally bad as far as I'm concerned since students won't have any incentive to understand what's under the hood of their GUIs.
To be clear, I don't mind people using LLMs to code (I use them to code my SaaS project) but what I do mind is them not even trying to understand wtf is on their screen. This new breed of vibe coders are going to be close to useless in real world programming jobs which when combined with the push targeted at kids that "coding is the future" is going to result in a bunch of below mediocre devs both flooding the market and struggling to find employment.
10 years ago I'm fairly certain these moves would have been met with a strong reaction from the public, but now nobody cares...
So is it science/defense that makes up their user base? I have an acquaintance who works at NASA mention that IBM stuff was really good for processing large amounts of data fast. Is that their primary advantage over other architectures?
>Effective August 19, 2025, Anthropic will expand data processing to include infrastructure in multiple geographic regions (including US, Europe, Asia, Australia) to improve reliability. This affects Anthropic API and Claude for Work customers. Details about our infrastructure and security standards are available at our Trust Center.
>If you require US-only processing for compliance or other reasons, please indicate your preference here before August 19, 2025 to opt out of having your data processed in regions outside of the United States. If you have already expressed a preference for US-only processing in a custom agreement or order form, no further action is needed and we will honor that existing preference. Data storage remains US-only.
Hopefully, this will help alleviate the issues users here have had with API availability (especially recently).
Additionally, I was thinking about purchasing a Framework Desktop to use as a server for my business. (I’d like to use LLMs but due to the sensitive nature of my customer’s data I would strongly prefer doing so locally.) I guess I’d have to send it to my GF and then smuggle it into the US in my carry on.
