JJMalina··on This is a Bad Time to be an FPS Fan
"Assuming you don't care about the poorly acted, nonsensical storylines, predictable AI, done-to-death use of military scenarios, corridor focused levels, and complete absence of challenge and ambition that infects the campaign modes of most of the current crop of blockbusters, then yeah - it's a great time to be an FPS fan." Over the years you can observe that the Call of Duty series has evolved into having a larger focus on multiplayer than single player since the publishers realized that the games were selling more because of the multiplayer. I definitely agree that the Modern Warfare series is guilty of milking it's formula. However I think that Battlefield 3, despite what's been said, pulled off a decent single player campaign. The storyline wasn't the most well written but the levels were all unique and actually were fairly difficult at times. IMO Battlefield 3 has the most rewarding multiplayer of any FPS to date because unlike MW3, team play makes the whole game experience a lot more enjoyable.
JJMalina··on Steve Jobs Takes The Stage At iPad 2 Event
Oh man I could make a really nasty joke about Steve Jobs and the iPad being 33% thinner. But I won't.

It does look like he's lost weight but Jobs has always been skinny, so I don't think it's fair to speculate on how healthy he really is. I really hope he's doing well.

JJMalina··on Treehouse Hits The Deadpool; Founder Off To Google
I remember signing up for Treehouse after that TC post and thought it was really cool. Tried to get my friends on it, but that failed (most people didn't have iphones at the time) so the app was useless for me.
JJMalina··on Awesome-Fontstacks: free web fonts with failsafes to back them up
There are 396 font bundles on this site, but no way to search through them. Ugh :(
JJMalina··on Adobe previews Edge, a prototype HTML 5 animation IDE
While this is a cool prototype and a step in the right direction, I don't think Adobe should be allowed to get away calling all these features HTML5 when it's all JS, jQuery and some iffy CSS transitions. The media loves buzzwords and Adobe delivers.
JJMalina··on Changing the world via Twitter? Yeah, you should get out more
I think everyone is missing the point here about using Twitter to form strong ties or cause tangible social change.

Are people working for Greenpeace or some other org on the streets of NYC harassing people actually more effective than tweeting or liking a cause? Tweets for causes definitely aren't as annoying, unlike these people who pester you every time you pass them by. If anything they're making you less inclined to support some kind of cause.

JJMalina··on The Square Grid - New CSS-Grid
CSS frameworks are especially useful when you're using Sass & Compass (compass-style.org) because you can completely bypass having to add all these ugly and tedious class names to your HTML. Instead you can make a few mixins out of the framework's code and stick them right into your css. Your HTML & CSS will be semantically cleaner and easier to maintain if you want to make changes in the future.
JJMalina··on NYU Startup Week
More colleges need these types of events. NYC schools like NYU and Columbia definitely have an advantage by having direct access to the NYC tech scene.
JJMalina··on Ask HN: He stole my laptop, and sent me this, what would you do?
In addition to what others have mentioned I have one piece of advice:

Perhaps this person is a visitor of HN and may now be aware of your future course of action. Even if they are completely unfamiliar with HN you have to consider that they have had access to whatever was left of your internet browsing history. Just because they claim to be deleting everything does not mean that they have done it yet. They were able to find your email address, which is easy, but you need to consider the possible extent of their snooping. You need to think about how much of your personal information could be compromised. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

JJMalina··on Tell HN: I accidentally ran up a $1000 Heroku bill
Reading this makes me laugh because today I got a $1400 bill from National Grid for gas and heating. The normal bill is around $40 usually. An interesting phone call awaits tomorrow. In all seriousness though Heroku should strike a deal since this is your first offense, just like banks will waive fees for you when you overdraft the first time.
JJMalina··on Apple's attention to detail
My MBP is asleep whenever I am, and the light is actually kind of soothing right before dozing off.
