InvOfSmallC··on Poll: Switching from WhatsApp
I think Telegram is the superior IM currently being developed but if you want to switch due to privacy reasons than you can just stay on whatsapp, it will not really improve anything.

InvOfSmallC··on Preliminary Incident Statement
Yes, usually developers (and I'm one of those) don't think about how to size correctly the cloud. You could incur in costs you don't really need. Although in my company we generate an alert and a report so that people are aware and can change instead of letting a system doing it automatically for you.

404 is a normal response code. Something is wrong in the infrastructure if you have this doubts.

Hi, with your service can I avoid to put the cookie banner? Or you use cookie?
InvOfSmallC··on Ask HN: Go programming language is over ten years old. What do you think of it?
Imho because it is highly opinionated and the designers of the language also suggests best practices. They don’t do anything wrong in suggesting best practices although some of those best practices only work when you write infrastructure code and not micro services (with business logic) and some programmers cannot really compute that and they stick with the religion. I also had the same experience of not scaling for teams for this reason, because you had people who would not allow for discussion. It is honestly never happened to me before. Given it could only be a matter of having found just a bad apple in the team, my first reaction was that this language doesn’t scale with teams.

Honestly, it escapes me how these three condition can be legal conditions. I don't in EU you can actually do that.
InvOfSmallC··on Ask HN: What is the best enterprise software you use every day?
Hi, I can't find the pricing. Is it completely free?
InvOfSmallC··on Ask HN: How to avoid over-engineering software design for future use cases?
Personally this is not my experience. Plenty of seniors spitballing not useful solutions, premature optimization of sort etc...

The mid-career is perfectly fine, give you are also good at refactoring if needed.

Also, another thing that I'm not seeing stressed enough on this topic is: measure.

InvOfSmallC··on Ask HN: Are my expectations on code quality and professionalism too high?
I think that you should bind your standardS to the business. What you said are absolutely best practices recognized on the Accelerate book. But they also require time and effort (well it really depends, you can have everything deploying an app on Firebase using GitHub CI for example and run the tests). Do they actually change the cost of delivering in your case? Are you actually able to demonstrate what is the gain? Also? Do you have a market fit? All of this is not really important if people are not using the product. In short I think engineering standard are important but they always need to be put in the context you are working. If I’m opening a startup I need to test my product with customers. I will probably need to change the UI and the business logic many times. I could not care less about proper automatic testing in this phase. Once I have the product then I can get worried about engineering best practice.
InvOfSmallC··on I wrote a SaaS product because the internet made me believe it'd make me rich
Actually the YC startup school says you should not pay for customers initially. Paid ads come to a later stage.
InvOfSmallC··on Supabase (YC S20) – An open source Firebase alternative
I decided to give it a shot any way. It seems cool.
InvOfSmallC··on Supabase (YC S20) – An open source Firebase alternative
I will check it thanks! Although the authentication seems too manual. That part I prefer firebase.
InvOfSmallC··on Supabase (YC S20) – An open source Firebase alternative
Besides the pricing, the other painful thing about Firebase are the storage rules. Given I understand you want to give maximum control to frontend developers without having a backend, the fact that I need to reimplement them if I switch serverless is an absolute pain. What are your plan regarding this aspect. Where are we going to implement the business logic?
InvOfSmallC··on Zuckerberg says employees moving out of Silicon Valley may face pay cuts
I mean, it's not something that isn't expected. I also think it's fair in a way.

I'm curious to see how many engineers will be interested. For example there is a company, quite famous, already known for the remote working that wanted to make me an offer, but it implied me opening a company in my country so that they can pay me because it was to complicated to have me directly in the payroll.

What I mean is that the law is still not prepared to support this worldwide.

InvOfSmallC··on Amazon AppFlow
In my opinion the answer is "write the code so that it can easily adapt to change":

- keep the business logic away from your implementation details

- generally speaking practice clean code

- don't overthink it, if your business goal is solved easily and quickly by using the cloud, use it, otherwise you lose time to market
