Intuitively, I would guess that they have a better grasp of what made them fail than successful people have of what made them succeed.
I didn't understand what the word "stress" even meant exactly until I got into my late 30s. Then I realized that I had been under extreme stress for most of my life but had not noticed it because I could just keep going despite constant exhaustion and borderline depression. Then, that suddenly stopped working.
I wish I'd realized this a decade or two earlier.
These companies effectively monopolize app distribution on their platforms and then make discovery so poor that developers who try to sell apps in their stores must pay for ads in those same stores.
I'm not sure whether that's low or high, or how it compares to a general audience.
> I can pick up H417s on the official WCH store on Aliexpress with free shipping and no verification hullabalu.
I think the point is that anyone can make these chips, so there are Chinese sellers who just throw them in a padded envelope and send them out without bothering with all the stuff "serious" vendors do. And because they're cheap enough, if doesn't matter if some get lost in the mail.
And yes, OpenAI and Anthropic are highly questionable, too, and so I've ended my OpenAI subscription and I'm moving from Claude to other providers. But even people who do not do that are absolutely justified in drawing a line at supporting Musk, because there's a difference between mere normal shittiess and Musk.
> Cambridge initially said claims of plagiarism regarding Arday's thesis and some journal publications had been investigated by Liverpool John Moores University (LMJU) and the journals in question.
> LJMU - which awarded Arday his PhD in 2015 - concluded that he had not plagiarised work.
It is absolutely undeniable that there has been a witch hunt against minorities in positions of power in the last few years. It is unclear to me whether this guy actually did anything wrong.
What is clear to me, though, is that the level of scrutiny and the attacks he received are not consistent with what most white men in similar situations received.
I would rather say it's been a very well kept secret if it's true, which I highly doubt. It also makes absolutely no sense; so far, Anthropic has taken every opportunity they had to release good numbers. Why would they keep it secret if they were wildly profitable?
None of this makes any sense. The only thing that makes sense is that Anthropic isn't profitable at all, and is burning investor money to stay afloat. Else, why keep raising tens of billions and only release vague annualized numbers?
Genuinely, this makes no sense at all. If you want to convince people otherwise, you need more than just "oh, it's a secret, but we all know it."
This is the wrong comparison. An LLM provider isn't like a desktop OS; it's like a server OS. And everybody is using Linux for their servers.
> And let me know when your parents start using the Chinese LLMs on their own.
That already happened. To be fair, they're Chinese.
"Patenting rubbish" is a description of pretty much all software patents since forever.
