ImHereToVote··on Forests offset warming more than thought: study
Why stop at pre-industrial. We can go extra-natural. Naturally most forests were grazed at by large roaming herbivores.
ImHereToVote··on Re: My AI skeptic friends are all nuts
Oh, I agree with you. Perhaps I phrased it poorly.
ImHereToVote··on Re: My AI skeptic friends are all nuts
I would posit that social media has made us worse. Hell, TV made our minds worse. I know it rotted mine to an extent. maybe there are externalities to search too. Maybe it devolved critical thinking skills. having a source at our fingertips made us source obsessed. Your cognitive dissonance just needs a good source to be placated.
ImHereToVote··on Re: My AI skeptic friends are all nuts
I don't think it matters whether an LLM will get us there or some sort of causal transformer that we don't have the training data for yet.

What happens to the majority of the planet's biomass when we get there? If it's a new paradigm that does the trick. It might sneak up on us like the GPT-2 capabilities.

ImHereToVote··on Re: My AI skeptic friends are all nuts
This stops to make sense as soon as the prompter can be automated. Who is going to pay for your artisanal software? Who will afford it?
ImHereToVote··on Re: My AI skeptic friends are all nuts
You are both right. You won't need the skills. The problem is that you will want to eat and have housing.

Maybe we get UBI. But if Jeff Bezos and some friends own all of the production. What would they do with your UBI dollars? Where can he spend them? He can make his own yachts and soldiers.

ImHereToVote··on Against "Against Life Extension"
Bit of a leap there.
ImHereToVote··on Brain aging shows nonlinear transitions, suggesting a midlife "critical window"
You can make your own ketones by downing some MCT oil. Cheap AF. Just have to be somewhat fasted.
ImHereToVote··on Beyond Attention: Toward Machines with Intrinsic Higher Mental States
If modeling cognitive processes is a scam, then neuroscience must be the longest-running con in history.
ImHereToVote··on What Happens When AI-Generated Lies Are More Compelling Than the Truth?
Lies are already more compelling than the truth. The difference is whether you like rebel lies, or establishment lies.
ImHereToVote··on Triangle splatting: radiance fields represented by triangles
A pyramid is unnecessarily bound, a triangle performs better if it is free flowing. I understand that this performs better because there is less IO but slightly more processing. IO is the biggest cost when it comes to GPUs.
ImHereToVote··on Denmark to raise retirement age to 70
Seems like the US taxpayer should subsidize all countries as much as they subsidize Israel. That would fix it.
ImHereToVote··on “ZLinq”, a Zero-Allocation LINQ Library for .NET
Thanks.
ImHereToVote··on “ZLinq”, a Zero-Allocation LINQ Library for .NET
Why is LINQ allocating memory in the first place?
ImHereToVote··on The Entropy of Thought: Why Our Minds Gravitate Toward Divided Realities
This is why biological neural networks cannot be truth machines by default. Only culture can create truth seeking behavior.
ImHereToVote··on “The Mind in the Wheel” lays out a new foundation for the science of mind
Tell that to Richard Zedníks throat.
ImHereToVote··on Proton threatens to quit Switzerland over new surveillance law
What war are tariffs meant to stop?
ImHereToVote··on “The Mind in the Wheel” lays out a new foundation for the science of mind
This is like saying that understanding water phase changes makes you competent at ice skating. You know what I'm talking about.
ImHereToVote··on “The Mind in the Wheel” lays out a new foundation for the science of mind
The actual program is a black box. We have been able to dissect some details but the whole system is hard to understand. The program is grown more than developed. Understanding the concept of inference doesn't help you much.
ImHereToVote··on Material 3 Expressive
Browser don't support replacing cursor images natively for obvious reasons. You have to use JavaScript for that.
ImHereToVote··on “The Mind in the Wheel” lays out a new foundation for the science of mind
We know how they are trained. We just don't know how the trained model works, since the program is emergent.
ImHereToVote··on “The Mind in the Wheel” lays out a new foundation for the science of mind
"Nobody in CS is approaching the computer as an entirely black box and making up how they think or hope it works."

That is literally how we approach transformers.

ImHereToVote··on Why agency and cognition are fundamentally not computational
Your determined nature is the ability to creat interim goals.
ImHereToVote··on Wise refuses to let us access our $60k AUD
You violated the doctrine of low agency. You are too agentic.
ImHereToVote··on Mipmap selection in too much detail
Nvidia has a quite blocky MIP selection. Did an Nvidia engineer decide that consumers don't notice, and fixed functioned the hell out of it?
ImHereToVote··on Mipmap selection in too much detail
This is very relevant to what I'm doing. I'm trying to reproduce the MIP pipeline to get anti-aliased procedural details in fragment. specifically converting high frequency details into roughness.
ImHereToVote··on Universe expected to decay in 10⁷⁸ years, much sooner than previously thought
Don't worry. You still get to experience things when your fermionic matter is converted into bosons. Have fun.
ImHereToVote··on Time saved by AI offset by new work created, study suggests
It doesn't get easier. Nobody predicted LLMs. Intelligence is much easier to grow than it is to understand. This is obvious.
ImHereToVote··on Scientists have found a way to 'tattoo' tardigrades
Finally.
ImHereToVote··on Time saved by AI offset by new work created, study suggests
A general problem to action mapper. We have those in biological form with varying degrees of generality. We can use those to infer what synthetic ones will behave like.
