Ilasky··on Ask HN: What non-AI products are you working on?
It’s not a product per se, but I can already see it needing something purpose built in the future.

I’m hosting a 6 week cohort of makers and builders to meet virtually every week and share progress with a demo day at the end. It’s been really exciting to see the response of such a program. People are doing things from crocheting to programming.

It’s totally free and the point is to meet other people making things and to finish your own projects.

Here’s a blog post where I chat more about it: https://iml.bearblog.dev/lets-make-things-together

But I imagine there could be a whole CRM-like system that might need to be built to manage it if it gets any bigger.

I've implemented this feature! Let me know if it helps get you better results.

I've added the ability to filter out by keyword (with "broken" and "parts" filtered out by default), but will beef up the backend more! Let me know if this helps!
Ilasky··on Show HN: GPU Prices on eBay
I have added it in!

Let me know what you think.

Hey there! I have added the ability to filter out keywords quickly on the postings.

Let me know if this helps!

I'm also going to improve the backend a bit to filter out broken GPUs

Ilasky··on Show HN: GPU Prices on eBay
Good point - perhaps I'll add in another filter that allows you to filter out listings from posters with 0 feedback.
Ilasky··on Show HN: GPU Prices on eBay
Thanks for pointing that out! Will do some updating to the filtering function.
Ilasky··on Show HN: GPU Prices on eBay
Ah - I see what you’re saying.

I think I’m going to keep it relatively simple for now, just to see how it goes. If it becomes a bigger issue, I’ll try out your method!

Ilasky··on Show HN: GPU Prices on eBay
Good idea! Thanks!

I don't quite follow how the IP address would be different. Could you elaborate on that?

This is technically possible, but for ~3,000 products, checking on an hourly basis would make ~72,000 requests per day -- which definitely would get flagged, I think.

Thanks for the feedback! Agreed that the order and units of memory needs to be standardized -- definitely will do!

Apologies about the item being sold, the list is only updated every 4 hours at the moment. With additional API access (waiting to hear back!), I would be able to get a tighter loop on updating the list so everything is currently available.

Ilasky··on Show HN: GPU Prices on eBay
This is a great point -- thanks! Do you think there a possibility that anyone with zero feedback is just new and it's their first time selling?
Ilasky··on Show HN: GPU Prices on eBay
Thanks for the feedback! Definitely agree it needs some cleanup. Working on a good pipeline for it

It has a 5k limit per day when you sign up for the developer account (free). I pull the most recent listings every 4 hours and cache results if they are still available.

Currently waiting to hear on upgrade to 1.5m. But 5k works for now!

Thanks! I pull from the eBay Browse API, use some fuzzy matching and nlp to parse model numbers, and match against list of scores.

Noted! I definitely want to add connectors and, relatedly no connectors, as a filter.
Ilasky··on Show HN: GPU Prices on eBay
That makes a ton of sense! Any other keywords you think would help filter it down to results you're interested in?
Ilasky··on Show HN: GPU Prices on eBay
How about now?
Ilasky··on Show HN: GPU Prices on eBay
Looks like it got hugged! I am adding more resources now!
Ilasky··on Show HN: RAM Prices
I’m well aware, as I said in my comment, I need to add filters and am working on it!
Ilasky··on Show HN: RAM Prices
Just spun up gpupricecompare[0] for GPU prices from eBay as well.

Still need to add more filters, of course, but figured I’d throw it out there as well while it’s in progress and topical for the discussion.

Thanks so much!
Ilasky··on Pocketbase: Open-source back end in one file
Depends upon the project.

For CRUD apps, sveltekits progressive enhancement and form actions make it quick to to add simple function to the page. You can store the pocketbase instance, pb, in locals and reference it all over the application.

For more multiplayer things, sticking a client-side subscription to a collection allows updates of elements that can be worked with/added/moved around etc.

Ilasky··on Pocketbase: Open-source back end in one file
Been using Pocketbase for almost all of my projects lately. Its realtime database is especially nice to introduce multiplayer functionality with relative ease.

It plus SvelteKit has been a dream to get up and running using the JS SDK.

Ilasky··on Ask HN: What apps have you created for your own use?
I'm making Snapress[0] as a way to stay connected with family & friends in my upcoming travels. It instantly prints a picture on my family and friends' printers as soon as I take it. Just need a raspberry pi or spare computer to run it.

I like to think about it as a Polaroid where the camera and printer are on opposite ends of the world.

Ilasky··on Ask HN: What are you passionate about at the moment?
That’s definitely tough.

Learning an instrument as an adult has had its advantages that I’m learning for myself and no one else. I’ve accepted that I won’t be the next great violinist, but want to be good enough for me.

I sincerely hope you do pick it up again! Or maybe trying a new instrument for yourself.

Ilasky··on Ask HN: What are you passionate about at the moment?
Violin for me! Been going at it for a bit more than 3 years and have just started learning one of the Bach Sonatas.

It feels great to have a direct output from effort put in. The combination of physical and concentrated mental effort leaves me feeling refreshed after a good practice.

Ilasky··on Ask HN: What are you passionate about at the moment?
Kind of in a similar boat!

Been learning Korean to speak more with my girlfriend’s family, especially since we’re going to Korea soon.

My biggest waves of improvement have come from reading aloud the Talk to Me in Korean books.

I’ve found that getting the structure of the sentences has helped me and then I learn vocabulary by using what I interact with on a day-to-day basis.

There’s also a Korean slang book by Talk to Me in Korean which is really great too! Helps break out of the “learned it from a textbook” sound.

Ilasky··on Why you should probably be using SQLite
I’ve been using Pocketbase[0] on my projects and I can’t recommend it enough.

It is built on a SQLite db and has real-time pub/sub capabilities. Its JS SDK is incredibly easy to use and setup for CRUD as well. For side projects and some medium tasks, I’d say SQLite/Pocketbase has been super easy to work with.
