Hovertruck··on The Absurdity of LinkedIn
I only ever view LinkedIn profiles in an incognito window. I don't want to appear in the "These people viewed your profile" emails that they send out.
Hovertruck··on Facebook launches Nearby Friends
Will this be smart enough to not tell me every time my friends who live next door to me are nearby?
Hovertruck··on Avow-CI Is No More
To be fair, you can work on something and wait until the evening to commit it.
Hovertruck··on Angular 2.0
"I never understood how JQuery and JS were just dumped the past 3-4 years in favor of all thse complex frameworks like AngularJS, Ember, etc..."

Well, you can't have Angular without JS so we'll focus on the point of jQuery here.

jQuery does a few things really well – so well that Angular itself uses jQuery (or jqLite by default). angular.element(selector) returns a jQuery object.

Angular also does a few things well. Code reusability and testability are much easier to achieve with Angular, in my opinion. Features like data-binding also help to reduce boilerplate code.

Hovertruck··on Google's updated Java coding guidelines
Reading code with K&R braces is almost unbearable to me. I don't really know why, it just seems like a wasted line and visual clutter when reading code.
Hovertruck··on F.lux
Yeah, I used it for a year but could never get a configuration that agreed with me.
Hovertruck··on Show HN: Cilantro - Chat 1:1 with employees at companies you'd like to work at
No offense but I don't see how that matters at all in this context.
Hovertruck··on FuckIt.py - The Python Error Steamroller
Sounds easier than git revert.
Hovertruck··on Yahoo acquires Ptch
How do you pronounce the name of this company? Patch? Pitch?
Hovertruck··on Vote Now: Who Should Be Time's Person of the Year? Edward Snowden
Thanks for the helpful error message, Time.

Hovertruck··on Introducing Instagram for Windows Phone
I installed it. The "forgot password" feature doesn't work, so after I finally guessed my password I noticed that it was showing the text I entered in the password field in plain text. I want to go back and see if I can reproduce this, but I can't find an option to sign out of the app anywhere.
Hovertruck··on Git 2.0 changes push default to ‘simple’
I tend to treat the history of the master branch as immutable. Working with a remote branch that needs to stay up-to-date with master has, in my experience, required rebasing and force-pushing the branch.
Hovertruck··on Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancer? (November 2013)

Hovertruck··on LinkedIn Intro: Doing the Impossible on iOS
As right as everyone is about how insecure this is, it's a fun exercise to imagine how different the public response to this would be if it were one person's hack project using self-hosted proxy. The hacks employed here are really cool.
Hovertruck··on Hostnames
We used to use palindromes. It was a terrible idea.
Hovertruck··on Five years ago, Stack Overflow launched
Because Google wouldn't list them unless clicking the link revealed the answer, I believe.
Hovertruck··on REST Hooks - Stop the polling madness
Ah, I must've missed that. Thanks!
Hovertruck··on REST Hooks - Stop the polling madness
> On average, 98.5% of polls are wasted

Erm. Is there a source for that?

Hovertruck··on Security advisory: Breach and Django
This advisory is pretty understandable, I think.

The big bold text ("BREACH may be used to compromise Django's CSRF protection") is a strong warning of the threat (becoming vulnerable to XSS). They list two steps that they recommend taking; disable the gzip middleware in your settings.py, and disable gzip for responses from your web server.

Hovertruck··on GitHub was experiencing a DDoS
Wouldn't that just mean that they're bound to find out that Github is down without needing to see it on the front page of HN?
Hovertruck··on RubyWarrior - Bloc

    if warrior.feel.enemy?
      warrior.attack!
    else
      warrior.walk!
    end
Hovertruck··on Apple Acquires Nigerian Tech Entrepreneur's Startup HopStop
Strangely enough, neither did the other two...
Hovertruck··on Show HN: Angles.js - Chart.js charts in Angular
This is correct. Sorry if that was confusingly worded. :)
Hovertruck··on Show HN: Angles.js - Chart.js charts in Angular
Wow, I actually just implemented this same thing (but using D3/Rickshaw[1]). If only this had come out a week ago.

Hovertruck··on Mammouth is a small language that compiles into PHP
Assuming it continues to develop, I could see the appeal. When you consider how widely available PHP is and how one of the biggest complaints is the inconsistency in the design of the language, it makes sense to take advantage of a cleaner way to interact with the ecosystem.
Hovertruck··on Storage for Photographers
Heh, it is unfortunate that there's very little info there. We put it up a while ago and have been so focused on actually building the app that updating the website seemed unimportant. :)
Hovertruck··on Storage for Photographers
We don't make any money off of prints, only the photographers do. The business model is subscriptions.
Hovertruck··on Storage for Photographers
I'm actually working on this idea right now!

https://plover.co/

We want to take backing up, sharing, and monetizing and make them very simple and enjoyable to do. We've started rolling out slowly already, our goal is to be open to the public within a month or so.

Hovertruck··on AT&T will start selling customers’ usage data
That's basically what I pay for AT&T, but to make the switch I'd have to break my contract.
