I try to be kind, honest, and fair. Sometimes, I can get a bit riled up by comments. I am sorry if I say something rude or snarky.

Hnrobert42··on California to begin ticketing driverless cars that violate traffic laws
> The standard for human drivers is through the floor.

The linked article doesn't describe the standard. It describes a single, exceptional example.

Hnrobert42··on To Restore an Island Paradise, Add Fungi
Jeez. How are you so knowledgeable on this subject without already working in the sector?
Hnrobert42··on Show HN: DAC – open-source dashboard as code tool for agents and humans
Have you thought about how these dashboards could be built for an eink screen?

For a while, I was thinking about starting a side project of selling E-ink screens with easily configured dashboards. The project would support hobbies who want to build dashboards powered by a raspberry pi or something. I never pursued it, but it seems like you are now halfway there.

Hnrobert42··on Show HN: DAC – open-source dashboard as code tool for agents and humans
The comments are why I prefer YAML for config over JSON. Of course, JSON is great for many purposes, especially machine to machine. For human to machine, I prefer YAML.
Hnrobert42··on Show HN: DAC – open-source dashboard as code tool for agents and humans
You have trouble with them when you are modifying them by hand or using an LLM to do it? The purpose of this project is having LLMs do it. I found they are about as good at writing yaml as they are writing anything else.
Hnrobert42··on Canonical/Ubuntu have been under DDoS
Indeed. It is far more likely to be the copyfail issue.

Hnrobert42··on The Uncanny Valley and the Rising Power of Anti-AI Sentiment
No more so than the athlete who wants to use hard work to win and doesn't want competitors to use hard work to win.

I visited Hungary a few years ago. It is my ancestral homeland. I learned a sliver of a fraction about Orban, how he came to power, and how he maintained it. I encourage you to do your own research.

From what I understand, once in power, he made it very difficult to lose power. Thus, I consider it fantastic news that he not only lost, but he didn't claim "fake news"/"stolen election."

Hnrobert42··on I run multiple $10K MRR companies on a $20/month tech stack
Well, by the time you are hiring a dedicated infra role, you should be past the single VPS stage.
Hnrobert42··on We analyzed 5M App Store rankings – here's what moves the needle
This is more of the needle itself than it is what moves the needle. I was hoping for some analysis.
Hnrobert42··on Names and faces of those killed by Israel in its April 8 massacre
I'm not naive or sheltered, but this kind of reporting is useful. When I read about Israel bombing Beirut, I assume it is military targets with some civilian casualties.

It is very meaningful to see the "some civilian casualties" presented in this way. I don't even see it as an argument for or against Israel's strikes. It is simply a statement that this is the consequence of Israel's actions.

In particular, I appreciated reading a bit about what the victims did for a living and who they were. It helps me connect them to my personal experience.

Hnrobert42··on Many African families spend fortunes burying their dead
Hello friend. I responded to your post and have thought about you since. Yet had you not referenced your post, I would not have made the connection.

It's too bad there's not a way to more easily recognize people on this site, a way to build more community.

Hnrobert42··on Obsolete Sounds
I wonder if it should include the sound of insects. Sigh.
Hnrobert42··on LLMs predict my coffee
I would think that the starting temperature and ambient temperature are controlling. Boiling water is three times ambient temperature. 150°F is twice ambient temperature.

The exponential decay is obvious because he started the readings at boiling. If he had started at 150°F, it might not have been as obvious that the readings were on an exponential curve.

Is that right? I didn't get much sleep and don't drink coffee. Lol

Hnrobert42··on France's aircraft carrier located in real time by Le Monde through fitness app

Hnrobert42··on Denmark was reportedly preparing for full-scale war with the US over Greenland
False equivalence.
Hnrobert42··on The Appalling Stupidity of Spotify's AI DJ
Whoa. Poor form. You give no evidence of either claim in your last sentence.
Hnrobert42··on $96 3D-printed rocket that recalculates its mid-air trajectory using a $5 sensor
It is exciting to know a secret no one else does. David vs Goliath stories have always been powerful. It is seductive to think you have outsmarted the rest of society.

Be careful who you let manipulate those emotions.

Hnrobert42··on Ask HN: How to be alone?
Great work!

I went on a fiber tear, and it helped with my A1C. Chia seeds and lentils ftw!

Hnrobert42··on Don't post generated/AI-edited comments. HN is for conversation between humans
Getting that wrong is a small price to pay. Plus, people know what you mean.
Hnrobert42··on Ask HN: How to be alone?
1. This will be tough. That doesn't mean you are doing it wrong.

2. Growth is proportional to your willingness to be uncomfortable.

3. Meds can work wonders, AND you can still be depressed. Medicine resolve biological depression. It doesn't resolve situational depression.

4. You will likely go through the stages of grief as you grieve this change. One of those stages is sadness.

Again, that's okay. You will grow so much as you find new ways to socialize and to enjoy solitude. It will be painful, but that is normal. It is part if the process.

Also again, I'm sorry to hear life took an unexpected turn. I know how hard that can be.

Hnrobert42··on Picking Up a Zillion Pieces of Litter
You don't know why?

It was about 7 am when I responded. I thought I was being helpful. I didn't realize the horse dentist was going to inspect my gift. Lol

Hnrobert42··on Picking Up a Zillion Pieces of Litter
I was super impressed that in Delhi there was no single use plastic. Little tongue depressor things instead of forks. Aluminum foil instead of plastic clam shells. Coming from Vietnam, it was amazing.

I have no doubt there is a litter problem in India, but take heart. It's not all bad.

Hnrobert42··on Picking Up a Zillion Pieces of Litter
I can't explain the censorship claim. The gloves spell out, "stop throwing your gloves on the ground," per Claude.
