HappyFunGuy··on Why Land and Homes Actually Tend to Be Disappointing Investments
Why should an industry that has existed for thousands of years have a high premium?

Why would you want the houses of the world to cost more, so less people could have them?

Low house prices and low land prices allow humans to actually use them. Stop seeing what is good, as bad. Dirty capital class casuals.

I think this is what they call throwing the baby out with the bath water? We didn't need immutability right?

How decentralized is a platform that hardforks via human intervention? What happens when the 51% choose to take the money of the 49%? If your blockchain changes the rules, because someone followed the rules of the code, but following those rules led to the "wrong" people losing money. Then your blockchain is more harmful than useful.

Dude, we could even name it something cute, like when you're trying to get a girl to marry you... Courting, yes, we could call it a Court!
HappyFunGuy··on Is duckduckgo.com partially enforcing the “celebrity threesome injunction”?
If you want uncensored search results, you need a decentralized search engine. (Your human friends and fellow hacker news bros are such an engine.)

As long as search engines are centralized, state power will bend them to their will.

It's a good thing that smart contracts have allowed us freedom from human error and bias.... I guess we can just call them "contracts." now.
HappyFunGuy··on How Britain has been kept safe for a decade
Being safe from terror attacks is 9 parts not being attacked, and 1 part catching people beforehand. If you state you are safe, because you're doing the 10% right, you're mistaken.

Would you also state there's no planes blowing up because the TSA or UK equivelent? It is because they are not trying. So find out why they aren't trying, and you'll find out why you're "safe."

Maybe you are killing less people with drones? Maybe your local assholes are bad at recruiting human meat sacrifices.

If it was because information sharing, you'd have jails full of bad dudes right?

HappyFunGuy··on U.S. Proposes Allowing Foreign Officials to Serve Warrants on Internet Firms
Sue in a corrupt jurisidiction to read enemies email?

Accidentally violate a privacy law? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privacy_policy#Applicable_law

Honest jurisdiction complies quickly and completely, less reliable jurisdiction slow plays and gives inaccurate/no response.

Crypto please save us.

HappyFunGuy··on Sweden closer to being the first cashless society with negative interest rates
It is a national security issue to have cash available for use during a time of war, or general internet failure, or natural disaster. Tying your national security to the health of the internet is unwise.
HappyFunGuy··on Does this common math misunderstanding have a name?
I found the answer. It is called the Framing effect. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Framing_effect_(psychology)

I would posit that there could be benefit in naming the more specific form of discount/increase, as its hard to derive benefit from the knowledge of a general "framing effect" as framing is more often non numerical.

HappyFunGuy··on Does this common math misunderstanding have a name?
This list is rather daunting to check for a match against this example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cognitive_biases It's either in this list, or we should describe this bias as new?
HappyFunGuy··on Does this common math misunderstanding have a name?
If we don't discover a name, I guess we could call the first one the "Small discount, large increase equivalence?" sounds pretty bad. Anything with the word numerator or denominator in it would be far worse.

On the second one, "unqualified percentages?"
