Or are you going to tell me that Indians don't deserve to use iPhones, watch Netflix, or learn new skills through online programmes? Because that would be pretty racist, and I don't suppose you consider yourself racist, do you?
Further, the fact some countries earn astronomically high wages means they can, when they retire, take everything with them, into a cheap country like Egypt, India, or Greece, and live like emperors. Is that fair? Especially when hard-working people in India can barely afford vacation in their own country.
And I suppose you should also add they must stay there and never come to your country because then your job is at risk?
I hope next time you put a little thought into things you get outraged about.
Oh, and the cherry on top is you victim-shaming him. "So stupid, he used the wrong license".
You claim to with the good fight but in reality you only want to win Internet battles to enlarge your own ego.
Personally, I am not even mad about CEOs earning billions. What is however totally unacceptable is how corporations systematically try to lower pay to maximise profits. I am pretty sure you're American and that's why you haven't mentioned it. You probably think making 300 or 400k is normal. But it very much is not. Amazon, Google, Microsoft, open offices in India to hire cheap labour. How many Indians would you say earn above 100k USD would you say? I can tell you none or not many who are in non-management positions. An engineer @ 400k in California may very well earn 40k in India doing the same job.
"But India is cheaper" sure. That's true. But what's your disposable income in San Francisco and New Delhi in those scenarios? I can guarantee you that your disposable income is at least one magnitude higher in SF than ND. Like, rent is expensive, yes. But nobody pays that much so that salary compensates. The real reason why they pay less in India is because they can. No competition. In USA you will never get good engineers if you pay a shitty salary, because engineering salaries are ultra inflated in any company anyway.
But since they decided that I don't align with their business plan, I had to close my account and stop using Reddit completely.
You can also print and mail (physically) revenge porn pictures of your ex-girlfriend to their parents and coworkers. Does that mean your country's postal system should open and inspect every single letter they handle? Not only this is a gross violation of privacy, but this is also logistically unfeasible. UK's Royal Mail would probably have to hire 20 times its current workforce, and they would still face significant delays.
But again, I am 100% for putting the people who share revenge porn in jail. There is no excuse for exposing someone's naked body without their consent to strangers.
If however your company is a bit more traditional, then you run a risk that, psychologically, your manager think more about the people he sees at the office in person, and less about the people he only sees through video chat. This will hinder your career progress significantly.
In general, a good rule of thumb is: the more your career growth, or potential growth matters to you, the less "wiggle room" you have, and the more you will simply have to accept certain terms and conditions. For example, if you think it is unacceptable for you to attend the office, and your prospective employer wants you at the office at least a few days a week, then it is obvious that you will not be able to choose them, and you'll have to go with another employer that won't place that big of an emphasis on office work. To this end, it is obvious to conclude that your career growth is going to be more limited the more constraints you throw into the equation.
So I deleted my account. And I don't miss it too much, I never really found actually interesting content on it. On the other hand I've regained so much time that I used to invest in mindless scrolling.
What will happen if malware is distributed like this?
I doubt Apple would tolerate such blatant code signature abuse.
Apple restrictions are not ideal but they're there for a reason.
When MSN Messenger existed, I pushed hard to get people on XMPP. "It's no problem, there are multiplatform, multiprotocol clients anyway". I had more than 200 contacts on MSN Messenger. Most or all of them, people I met in real life.
On XMPP? Maybe like... 10? Out of which perhaps only 2 I met in real life, and the rest I met on Linux forums. I was really aggressive on getting people to XMPP to the point I eventually closed my account and told people to reach me on XMPP. Nobody gave a fuck, of course they didn't. The world doesn't revolve around me.
Look, we get it. It's sad that corporations are realising they can hold users hostage for profit, but unfortunately that's the tradeoff with ease of use.
Oh, and Discord does so much more than IRC. It has voice chats "well just use Mumble", yeah but... why? Discord already has it. Or desktop sharing "use Jitsi", again, Discord already does it. Or large file sharing "roll your own FTP server", uhhh... no? Discord does it?
And a web UI if you don't want to chat online. And reliable mobile notifications. And two factor authentication. And in-game overlays.
FOSS fanatics struggle to admit commercial tools are so frickin' easy to use. I used to be like that, I understand. And then I got a job :P
Absurd and dangerous simplification of democracy. You will not get anywhere with that kind of thinking.
This is a daft proposition because there is no way in hell (I can guarantee it) that the first Mars colonisation ship will be running an off-the-shelf OS like Windows and a Core i7. No. It will be, from top to bottom, purpose-specific computers and systems tailored exactly for that end.
Further, this is not even about the user. Do you think Microsoft cares about the user? No. If they did, they wouldn't be plastering Windows with ads everywhere. Microsoft, like any other corporation (including Google, Apple or IBM) exist for the sole purpose of extracting monetary value from customers, and generating revenue for stakeholders. It really is that simple.
If you don't want to play the game, you can always build your own Linux distro.
What if you can't afford university? There's people literally living in their cars with full-time jobs, you know?
What if you're a good engineer from the technical point of view but find it hard to socialise with others? Maybe you're just introverted.
"Failing to impress" lol. A professor or an alumnus with a company. Yeah, you're definitely American. No such absurd things exist where I come from. Professors are burned out and alumni are lazy as hell.
Middle grounds are a slippery slope.
I can't count the amount of times I've lost or been robbed physical bills. Never once have money siphoned out of my online bank. I don't use cash anymore, I'm all digital, and still use a VPN to watch porn.
Turns out different people have different threat models. My threat model includes my neighbour, my ISP (to a certain extent), my employer (again, to a certain extent), private companies like Google or Facebook, burglars, thieves, and scammers.
It doesn't include the NSA, the government, the NSO group, banks, or North Korean government-sponsored hackers. If you think you can defend yourself against the NSA, lol. Good luck.
I'll tell you the reason: they do this because they can. It's not talent, it's competition. Who in EU is going to give you even 80k as a junior? Nobody. So why bother offering 300k or even 150k when people will take the tole for 60 or 70k?
Inb4 "but housing is more affordable!"
Whatever. That's not related to the employer. It's simply racist. "You earn less because you're European" is the truth. It's not because cost of living is lower (although it's related) but it's just a matter of employers being able to get away with shitty pay.

This kind of rhetoric can only be used by privileged (often white) western people with access to international financial markets, PayPal, stocks, and free (or cheap) cross-country transfers like and unified banking regions like USA or SEPA (EU).
I will continue to strongly and energetically defend that cryptocurrencies and blockchains are just a tool. Tools aren't good or bad. A knife can kill people but can also feed a family.
Sure, there are scams occasionally but it is nowhere as bad as some people seem to think it is. Blockchain and cryptocurrencies are two technologies that vastly improve distributed systems design as well as allow otherwise financially oppressed people to conduct their finances in a secure way and spend the money wherever they want.
I will never shut up about it. But unfortunately, because of this ridiculous cancel culture, I also can't publicly defend cryptocurrencies under my real name, as I'm not privileged enough to not face consequences.
But then, getting mad because your favourite closed source company doesn't support Linux well is a little ridiculous. Zoom works fine on macOS and Windows. Linux is always bound to have issues one way or another, and if that's not enough, there's not even an incentive for developers to do things the right way, so get over it.
Americans be like: “man, this 400k USD job is so boring, I need better work-life balance”
Meanwhile Europeans have to make do with 60k EUR jobs with zero work-life balance but hey, at least we have free healthcare, right?
Free healthcare that costs us half our salary. Cool.
UK wants to dominate and enslave its population for the political gain of the ruling class.
It is clear as day to me.
