HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: Any successful stories of finding co-founders online?
I also feel like I'm in a similar boat on finding a partner for motivation. Always found it easier to work on projects with friends back in HS/College and now it's a lot harder to stay on track/motivated. I think part of it is bouncing ideas back and forth and kind of hyping each other up.

I've used https://www.focusmate.com/ before, might help you. Not exactly the same but sometimes I find just having someone else on a video call with you is a motivational push.

HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: What defunct websites would you love to see revived?
OmgPop was a great games website that combined multiplayer flash games with a social experience. It's the origin of drawmything I'm pretty sure. Not sure why it went offline tbh.
HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: Good React courses for a complete beginner?
https://fullstackopen.com/en/ is one of the best resources I have found. It makes you do some work yourself, but just enough. Teaches you React, Node, Other up-to-date stuff. It doesn't lead to tutorial hell and is free!
HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: I don't want to do this depression cycle anymore
Sorry you feel this way, if you want someone to talk to over text/call you can send me an email (in profile). No expectations/shame/whatever. Sometimes it helps just to vent and talk it through with someone (from personal experience)
HAL9OOO··on Show HN: Commits.lol – Devs say the darndest things
Like the style of the site! Are all the commit messages found just from profanity?

Where ya at in Thailand?
HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: What Back-of-the-Napkin Calculation Should Everyone learn?
X% of Y is Y% of X

Ex: 7% of 50?

50% of 7 = 3.5

7% of 50 = 3.5

HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: Favorite Short Fiction?
Classic short story I was introduced to in high school:

HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: What are some non-tech schelling point locations?
Ubud, Bali is well known for yoga, and other spiritual kind of meetups/retreats.
HAL9OOO··on Stealing Valuable Art
Reminds me of ‘The Thomas Crowne Affair’
HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: How do I return to the industry after a two-year sabbatical?
Same same but different :). Would you be interested in chatting, maybe giving each other support or ideas? There's another guy in this thread with similar problems, maybe we can join a discord together.
HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: How do I return to the industry after a two-year sabbatical?
Hey I might be interested, at the very least we can have a chat. What's your email/contact? Don't have anything in your profile.
HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: How do I return to the industry after a two-year sabbatical?
Are you me? In the exact same boat, 'stuck' in Thailand right now. Curious to see other people's replies but as for me I've been trying to work on some hobby projects to build up some confidence again. Also have a gut feeling with my personality I need to work for myself somehow, but that scares me.
HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: Any good Technical books with hilarious presentation?

HAL9OOO··on UCSF admits it paid NetWalker more than $1M ransom
Wouldn't happen to be UMD would it? I still remember when they had everything leaked in plain text...
HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: Cheap places to live with a good intellectual atmosphere?
Maybe digital nomad hotspots? Ones in SEA for example are in pretty inexpensive locations. I'm not too sure honestly, I'm also looking for the same thing as you.
HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: What are some deep, mentality changing books?
Zen and the art of Motorcycle Maintenance. I don't know why but I've read it 4 or 5 times and have gotten something different out of it each time.
HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: Haven't worked for a while, best guide/advice to start a hobby project?
Thanks man! I've saved up some money and It's always seemed in my path to stop working at a big company and try to do my own thing... just I'm scared and also I can see when the money is going to run out and the thought of going back to a 'normal life' scares me. I know I have it in me but I just have to find something in myself that I lost along the way. Hard to explain.
HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: Haven't worked for a while, best guide/advice to start a hobby project?
Thanks man! You're post resonated with me. I also believe I need the original "feel good" feeling of deploying something early to make my confidence go up.
HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: Haven't worked for a while, best guide/advice to start a hobby project?
Thanks man! I'm thinking about writing a few blog posts too, even if no one reads it I think it would be a motivator for me. I'll definitely post my projects on here when they get to an alpha state :)
HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: Haven't worked for a while, best guide/advice to start a hobby project?
Thanks for all the replies guys! It's going to take me a while to read through all of them and process them. I guess this is the benefit of having eyes looking at your post on Christmas Eve, people feel like helping :).

HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: Haven't worked for a while, best guide/advice to start a hobby project?
Thanks Davis! That seems look a good start. Sometimes I just need someone to tell me what to do I feel to put things into perspective. I'll start with the basic Node/Vue tutorials and focus on getting something deployed, implementing login and then some basic api integration and move from there.

I guess I can always refactor the code when I start learning about more complicated stuff.

HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: Is Hacker News Blocked by China's Great Firewall Now?

HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: Are there any mobile games that are good rather than purely addictive?
True... crap just realized that is happening to me :(.
HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: Are there any mobile games that are good rather than purely addictive?
Chess, if you're online play against real people (on chess.com/lichess) and if you're offline do tactics problems!
HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: What’s your most underrated sci fi favorite book?
“The Man Who Folded Himself”

Probably the best time travel book I have read!

HAL9OOO··on Ask HN: Whats a good way to handle my 497 bookmarks?
Look into pinboard.in

It’s what I use to manage my bookmarks, way better than delicious.

HAL9OOO··on Why does vietnamese immigration have groups of travelers on same approval letter
Where did you apply for your visa? I'm going to be applying for my Vietnam Visa soon and was thinking of using the E-VISA but I know there are a lot of private companies that somehow get you a Visa.
HAL9OOO··on Show HN: Nab that sold-out campsite
Seems like a good idea. I've been trying to get a winter cabin camping trip organized with friends in the Seattle area and challenges I have faced are not knowing whats out there + having to fiddle around with different messy reservation systems for the cabins I have found.

For suggestions maybe adding links to the cabins you have listed so people could check out what they were trying to reserve? I'm going to try using this service but right now I have to google everything manually.
