What would be nicer is if we could get an iPhone for the sprint network :P
With the EEE I am not limited to what Asus states are acceptable programs to run. Thats pretty much it. The down side of the EEE is that it does not fit in my pocket.
This is pure insanity.
Now if I could figure out why rebuilding the database takes 7 minutes vs 20 seconds that it used to take i'd start really saving time during dev.
The advantage of bytecode is that it can run on any operating system/architecture, the VM will take care of executing it as binary code on whatever system it is installed on. This way you can go to youtube from any OS and if you have flash installed it works. Its not just about compiling into binary and startup times :)...
Now having said that when are the iPhone ruby and python VMs coming out?
Which means if you want to install a JVM or Flash VM you need to install the VM onto iPhone apple won't let you. If you compile the Java bytecode into C-code (as GCJ does) you still have the problem of actually installing that compiled code onto the iPhone.
Here is the point: Working FOR a company will give you money to live by, health insurance, FUNDING... Once you get the company started and start to need to put more and more time into it, then you can quit your main job (or have a spouse/relative support you). In either case you need to eat, and you don't want to end up in a situation where your startup failed (hey it happens) and you are in heavy debt unable to pay it off.
If you like your job, stick with it, if they can teach you something. Really good specially fresh out of school.
Regarding money, from people I know who started businesses, they all say the same thing: It takes time for it to actually start EARNING money, at first you keep investing and investing and investing. Then again they started stores :)
Once my wife gets out of Masters that will all change :).
Thought I must disagree with the universal health care point. The government can help regulate the way insurance companies operate vs give universal healthcare which by empirical evidence is failing in European countries.
Now my quick point on risk: You WILL fail (hence RISK) but sometimes you will succeed. All you need to ensure is that when you fail you can still have enough money to eat. Have a friend who didn't realize this point.
