Goopplesoft··on Show HN: Mitmproxy 1.0 released, now with a web interface
Forgot this was written in python. Scanned the code to see how they do http/2. This lib seems useful for general python use:

https://github.com/mitmproxy/mitmproxy/tree/master/pathod

https://github.com/mitmproxy/mitmproxy/blob/master/mitmproxy...

The whole package very well written. I'll definitely read through it and add it to my list of repos people should scan if they work with python.

Goopplesoft··on ClusterHQ is shutting down
Maybe the docker infinit acquisition[1] caused it? Given Kubernetes' plug and play storage classes (and gluster's maturity) + docker planning to add infinit natively there might not have been much space for them.

Goopplesoft··on Maya – Python Datetimes for Humans
Kenneth Reitz is a testament to how important good interfaces are in the developer community. There are literally 0 interesting things in the code (all dependency driven, https://git.io/v15i3). It does have a nice interface and because of this it will probably become one of the more popular python datetime libs.
Goopplesoft··on The Case Against Python 3
zip in py2 returns a tuple type (i.e tries to consumes the iterator through a StopIteration) in py3 it returns a iterator (consumes it on demand).

Try this in py2: https://repl.it/E5vd/0

Goopplesoft··on PHP 7 deployment at Dailymotion
> What's with people expecting frameworks to do everything for them these days?

I don't think that's the expectation. PHPs reputation seems to surround the fact that it tends to be (or was) the first language amateur coders dabbled with. That crowd is especially susceptible (at least before mysqli, etc) to making mistakes that amount to serious security vulnerabilities. Historically, these seemingly benign things that can only go bad if you dont know better, do go bad [1]. It seems that this lead rampant conflation of whether php is a bad language and whether php made it easier to do things in an unsafe way. Frameworks that create safer environments for devs (especially newer ones) are certainly a good thing and the good frameworks often get out of your way when you need them to.

Whats the k8's limitation here? You can do it however you like. e.g. make a fluentd daemonset, deploy on both nodes have them slurp up to s3. There are tons of ways to handle the logs and k8s can either help or stay out of the way.

Shameless plug: I've been running a 2FA service since 2011 now called GAuthify (https://www.gauthify.com/) that makes it pretty trivial as well!

Goopplesoft··on My time with Rails is up
I don't ruby but I'm guessing OP prefers the "include" that DataMapper uses since inheritance 'feels' weird ... a weak point nevertheless.
Goopplesoft··on GitHub has 11,995,200 open issues
Yeah they hid it under your user icon when you log in, which is bizarre since exploring is one of the best ways to be 'social' on github.
Goopplesoft··on Show HN: Interfacer – suggest interface types in Go
> But I would worry that someone would add this to, say, a git hook as way to enforce this assumption.

You shouldn't. At that point there are so many more concerns I'd have with the rest of the code (less 0 side-effect usage).

Goopplesoft··on Show HN: hazelnut – A pythonic library to parse /proc/meminfo
The API of this lib is probably surprising for the typical use-cases because a MemInfo object only represents a path and not a reading/snapshot of the file (each subsequent call to get() re-reads the meminfo file).

> https://github.com/mrsmn/hazelnut/blob/master/hazelnut/core....

So usage like:

   snap_pre = MemInfo()
   # Do stuff here
   snap_post = MemInfo()
   snap_pre.get('Mem')
   snap_post.get('Mem')
   snap_post.get('Mem')
   # All three would likely give different values.
I would suggest caching the read on instantiation or making them top level functions instead of using a class or MemInfoPath()?
Goopplesoft··on Go 1.6 is Released
The tools essentially causes that to happen (its a bad thing). When someone installs your package (and you don't pin them somehow with something like godeps, path management, http://labix.org/gopkg.in, etc) you recursively retrieve the deps from some source at HEAD and that package is now updated for every other package using that GOPATH.
Goopplesoft··on Go 1.6 is Released
Its generally unlikely those things lead to interface changes. e.g. func bcrypt(salt string, password string). Generally the bug isn't in the interface. So its somewhat safe to upgrade the dep and see if the compiler complains

Also exporting of interfaces is protected by case private()/Public() which leads to refined interfaces being exported. And the go vet tool expects all exported functions be documented.

Not saying a package manager wouldn't be nice.

Goopplesoft··on Google Open Source Load Balancer in Go

The distinction is that this project is Google written/used not google supported.

Goopplesoft··on Teaching a Semester of D3.js
Ignoring how important interactive web visualization has become to journalism (fivethirtyeight, NYT, Economist, etc), its very difficult to claim a university level course which likely is an elective or has alternative courses can be prescriptivist. This seems like an extension of the thought process "we should make opportunities and tools available to people if said tools can help them" and I'm glad people are doing that.

Goopplesoft··on Don't copy paste from a website to a terminal
Aside: its not sufficient to look at a file you 'curl | bash' into bash via your browser. It is very trivial to detect curl/wget's UA (mine has: "User-Agent": "curl/7.43.0") and dynamically modify files depending on the request's UI.

    if 'curl' in request.UA:
         return 'something malicious'
    else:
         return 'something nice'
Always create a local file with the content, read it, then perhaps run it.
