> "Playing videogames" isn't enjoying your life "in full", especially if you're smart and could do things that are really meaningful instead.

Why is "playing videogames" considered not meaningful? I have a group of friends that I have played video games with for over 10 years. We have shared a number of life ups and downs together and have met up in person numerous times. I would argue that we all bonded over videogames and it was the door that opened a broader friendship among each of us. Oh yeah, to be a bit a dick, we all make over 200 on average, with one way north of that. Every one of us is well-adjusted and now married.

That's really what you wanted to measure, right? How "successful" one is. Stereotyping isn't helpful. It blinds you to things that exist as they are.

Grow up.

Haha no. You’re basically advocating tax slavery. Freedom of movement is a freedom like any other.

Thanks for posting this. I am deploying a few Pis in a hot environment and am now looking into the cooling issue.

I believe your are still liable for the year you renounce. I am not an expert of any type in this area, to be clear.

Unless you renounce your US citizenship.
GhettoMaestro··on Google plans to partner with banks to offer checking accounts
Getting a $10k transfer with other contextual information could easily make it all under one of those scenarios.
GhettoMaestro··on Nike won’t sell directly to Amazon anymore
You didn't pay attention.

I have shipped to other addresses than my main address on file with Apple.

GhettoMaestro··on Nike won’t sell directly to Amazon anymore
> I.e as a merchant I can easily integrate Apple Pay as an available payment option in the same way as others, but as a customer I can't use Apple Pay unless I'm using Apple sanctioned devices/software and have an Apple account. Other commenters mentioned it only working in Safari, and according to Wikipedia it only works on Apple devices.

Yeah. It is called the Apple ecosystem. Don't like it? Don't use it. I personally have been very satisfied with Apple so far.

GhettoMaestro··on Google plans to partner with banks to offer checking accounts
SARs do not automatically result in you being booted out. SARs are objective in nature and the criteria is well defined.

I’d you have ever deposited more than 10k in cash or received a 25k+ wire, you probably has a SAR created for that transaction.

GhettoMaestro··on Snopes Under Legal Attack from Salon.com
Yes, this a moral judgement: Blowing company money on hookers, especially while cheating on your wife, is a bad thing.

The point I am making is that Snopes was/is horribly mis-managed and should not be given any money. Don't waste your money on fools.

Snopes at its heart is compromised.

Makes me chuckle. Democrats most times are against "at-will" situations, except when it benefits them.

(Just like every other group: self-serving.)

It’s basically an open source version of FreeNAS (minus the Corporate backing) as I understand it.

Edit: I'm wrong. It is an Open Source version of Sun/Solaris.

GhettoMaestro··on A Prisoner Who Briefly Died Argues That He’s Served His Life Sentence
On what grounds? He is serving a life sentence. He is in the custody of the correctional facility. They have every duty to keep him alive and healthy, up to the point of him expiring naturally.

Ridiculous logic games like this are a pretty good reason why excessive legalese is mocked in mainstream culture - because it is totally disconnected from reality and enthralled with their own existence.

GhettoMaestro··on SpaceX and Boeing Still Need a Parachute That Always Works
"Lost" space? I'm not following you. Unless you're referring to how up-start SpaceX has dominated the launch industry in the past 5 to 10 years?
GhettoMaestro··on Aviation Is on a Low-Carbon Flight Path
We just need someone to develop an air-to-air battery replenishment system (same theory/model that you see in use with military tanker aircraft for air-to-air refueling).

I can see it now. Max weight/batteries on take off. Controller to drain batteries serially, and as each one is exhausted, chuck it out the bottom of the plane (with some kind of landing/recovery mechanism). When you start running low on batteries, re-fuel at the nearest tanker.

Obviously I'm kidding. The tanker model is ridiculously expensive. That's why you only see it used for extremely critical things (military).

GhettoMaestro··on PACER Fetch APIs
Sorry - that’s a bullshit argument. Because our government sucks at budgeting, we will just slap on some more fees to the end user? Total workaround and creating more issues than it is solving.

Every public court document should be available as a PDF for free of cost. No exceptions.

GhettoMaestro··on Intel publishes misleading benchmarks against AMD
Let me clarify: When it comes to Spectre/Meltdown, HPC users and environments are most likely not prioritized targets of interest. The low hanging fruit in that scenario is stealing cryptographic keys from co-tenants on a public cloud.
GhettoMaestro··on File systems unfit as distributed storage back ends: lessons from Ceph evolution
> * The proliferation of Linux filesystems such as ext4, XFS, ZFS, btrfs, reiserfs, JFS, JFFS, bcachefs, etc. If any of those filesystems were truly adequate there wouldn't have to be so many.

While I get your point, I would like to point out that ZFS was developed by Sun (now Oracle). I've used ZFS for years from a data-integrity and array-mirror perspective and love it. No other file-system you mentioned next to it gives me the confidence that ZFS does (maturity, stability, etc).

GhettoMaestro··on Intel publishes misleading benchmarks against AMD
HPC is not the real use case (target). The percentage of HPC compared to the rest of the target market (public cloud) is insignificantly small.

The real question is do you trust any potential co-tenants in a public cloud that share a hypervisor with you, when said hypervisor does NOT have Spectre/Meltdown fixes applied? (There is only one correct answer...)

Also you can fairly easily mitigate this in a public cloud setting by running your VM on a dedicated hypervisor. AWS calls these "EC2 Dedicated Instances". Interestingly enough for most compute sizes the cost different is negligable. I imagine that isn't the case everywhere / for-everything, but if you A) need pre-Spectre/Meltdown perf and B) need protection against co-tenancy attacks, paying a few more dollars for a dedicated hypervisor host seems like a no-brainer to me.

GhettoMaestro··on SpaceX and Boeing Still Need a Parachute That Always Works
> This doesn't seem like a good habit for Boeing.

While I like to bang on Boeing for being fucking dumb about 737MAX, the habit of copying an existing well-tested, approved design is something that should NOT be discouraged.

Re-use of existing validated solutions / components leads to faster development cycles and increased agility (financially) . This is achieved by making more critical components COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf - not one-off / custom) and re-usable as self-contained "modules" or "packages".

Reinventing the wheel for reinventing the wheel's sake is in most cases not a good use of resources.

That said, if the original design has issues, my above commentary is invalidated somewhat - you need to modify the design to fix the root cause, which should trigger a fresh round of validation and testing at the original specification levels or greater. And of course, you should always do fully integrated tests, even if all of the components were previously validated and approved. You pretty much always find stuff (maybe only in solution-integrated combination) - I believe that's what happened in this case.

GhettoMaestro··on OpenSSH's Support for U2F/Fido Security
Good point.

When I used a Yubikey as a Smartcard it did in fact prompt for a passphrase. But that was via PKCS/SmartCard method, not U2F.

GhettoMaestro··on OpenSSH's Support for U2F/Fido Security
Interesting. I had so many issues with the SC daemon on Mac that I eventually just gave up and reverted to keeping my local ssh key in ~/.ssh/ with a passphrase on it.
GhettoMaestro··on Designing the Facebook Company Brand
USPS disallows 3rd party Mail aggregation and sorting / scanning services.

Why? The biggest USPS customer base (unsolicited bulk mail) got pissed.

If you saw how much spam I get via snail mail maybe you’d understand a little more.

GhettoMaestro··on OpenSSH's Support for U2F/Fido Security
This!

Setting up a yubikey via gpg to be an agent for ssh was such a pain at least 2 years ago.

GhettoMaestro··on Designing the Facebook Company Brand
The USPS mail service is frankly bullshit. It exists to spam the hell out of you.

That's why I bought a Kenmore HE3. I can buy most parts for $<50 on Amazon (or eBay in the worst case).
