Genego··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (Nov 2025)
For the past 2 months I have been doing a heavy deep dive into image generation and image generation editing capabilities. This then had me discover that you can generate storyboards for short stories, and automate the creation of these as videos with video generation models. This is a topic that interests me heavily, and as such I am now building my own workflows around that. I am documenting the entire journey here:

https://edwin.genego.io/blog

https://edwin.genego.io/blog/lpa-studio

https://edwin.genego.io/blog/ai-branding

It's not something I am looking to commercialize, but I actually did drop out of film school (with semesters in creative storytelling) to pursue software 15 years ago. And I feel like this will open up a whole new way of visual storytelling as well as personal and product branding. I have gotten quite some emails about it, from interesting people in different industries, as some more strongly worded (not so nice) emails from someone in the VFX industry since I started. Its by far one of the most interesting tangents I have ever went on.

Genego··on Ask HN: What do you do while ChatGPT-5 is thinking?
It really depends, sometimes I am just doing other tasks that aren't directly coding related. But often I also start with a plan of what I will prompt the LLM with, as I have a rough idea of the work that I want to get done in a few hours. So I start with the much larger tasks, and then while the LLM is thinking, I am kind of planning through my approach with the next task(s). Sometimes I am also wireframing, or drawing things which need to be improved on-top of a screenshot for the next round of UI/UX improvements.

Genego··on Interview with Geoffrey Hinton
There will always be plenty of money to go around no matter what situation we end up with. It will end up being much more centralized than things are today. But there won't ever be a situation where everyone is going to be poor, even if the masses are.
Genego··on Direct Preference Optimization vs. RLHF
I was building an multi-agent system connected to Telegram. There is one agent that synthesises a response through 5+ other agents. Initially I was tweaking the system through my IDE, making small adjustments to promps to ensure that patterns and workflows where followed better. But I also started to interact while on the road, or just from the bed. And I got very frustrated by seeing some multi-step / multi-agent interactions go completely wrong, so I build in an additional architecting agent, which can make adjustments to the agents prompts (in terms of executing logic of tool calls) on the fly.

So if I saw something went wrong, I would say: "Next time don't do that, please do this instead" - Architect agent then reviews the entire tool and agent call chain, and makes a new adaptation to each agent (if necessary).

I was calling this "Poor man's RLHF" - it has been quite fun to interact with. Ended up making it so that this is a JSON file that I could later (potentially use for finetuning). But I was always wondering if there was a name for this? Is it the similar as DPO? I called it "behavioral adaptation". For a small system it was quite effective. But I also didn't bother to research it.

As a Sr. Software Engineer & Web-developer primarily working with Python frameworks. I am comfortable wearing many hats, and have worked through small to large sized projects for different sized clients (small to enterprise), building tech both on the Back & Front-end as well as Infra. I am currently looking for an AI or LLM company to work with. I have worked with clients in AI since 2022 - and am currently spending several hours per day experimenting with AI & LLMs. From getting my hands dirty with the latest models and papers, to working on small applications that use AI. Especially when it comes to agentive apps (read: function calling or code writing-and-executing models), real world simulations (simulating 1000s of interactions with LLMs) or forecasting with LLMs. I have a few exploratory side-projects to show. And a huge amount of passion for the subject matter (productizing AI & LLMS) to bring to the table. AI-Stack keywords: LangChain, LLamaIndex, AutoML, MLFlow, AG2 (formerly Autogen), TinyTroupe, Oasis

Genego··on Ask HN: Do you have any tips for overcoming presentation jitters?
I used to bad at presentation. Until I started to think about them as a process. A process where I continuously get better at them, and any slip-ups, mistakes or issues that I make are things that I can improve on for my next presentation. It helped with the jitters as well, because instead of feeling anxious about the "real thing", the presentation just becomes another practice run to improve. But of course, that also requires that you don't just have one-off presentations here and there, but are having frequent ones rather.

Genego··on LTO Tape Storage is designed to damage itself – no airfilters, always powered on
I commented on this video three years ago while working on LTO library diagnostics. Comment is still up. As far I can recall the issue here is the drive sled not the actual drive, it’s malfunctioning and needs to be replaced. This is not by design and is usually covered under warranty. Normally it only blasts at 100% during boot. I’ve worked with hundreds if not thousands of these.
Genego··on Tell HN: I’m a wannabe developer, who works as a construction worker
You're still young. Try to get yourself somewhere closer to a tech job than construction. I had a lot of quiet times working as a hardware technician in past and other IT (sys-admin) jobs, while working on software projects and learning more about software in my spare time.

Of course, it is not so suitable if you are traveling a lot, but the general advice here is not to work so far away from a tech position, when you're quite passionate about software & tech. Communication and interviewing skills are something you can learn, don't let that hold you back from actual interviews, keep interviewing for jobs that you want; you'll get better at it.
