If there was a scale representing job difficulty — firefighter would be among the lowest difficult. I can respect those that volunteer but the ones who are career have no sympathy from me seeing that they are easily in the top 5% of society for doing something that 80% of us can do.
The problem is if you can get natural immunity independently, how can you be dependent on the government? Reduced dependency for vaccines and healthcare will reduce the need for government intervention and reduce the justification for increased taxes and regulations.
Thinking people need babysitters is quite the opposite of Thiel’s position. Much of his philosophy is based on the book, “The Sovereign Individual” which advocates for limited babysitters and more empowerment of the individual via hands-off governance.
If you mean VR by “virtual future” then I see flying cars gaining more traction instead.
That said, his comments on flying cars weren’t so much about flying cars — it was about the disconnect between society’s expectations of progress in technology vs our actual progress in technology thus far.
How could foreclosures not be good? If you buy too large a property in too nice of a location, making it too unaffordable for you, then you don’t deserve it. In fact not only do you not deserve it, you should be punished for not considering you could not afford it. You are stealing from others people’s livelihoods. To equate this to oxycodone shows ignorance to the fact that 75% of housing is owned by individual investors like you and I, or your mom and pop, while oxycodone is owned by a monopoly backed by big government.
Oh boy. MSM is going to jam the importance of it down our throats. “Social citizen scores are necessary to save lives. Get your score now! Lottery for people who register early.”
> What is your evidence that the tech "becomes safer with time"?
Why does there have to be evidence for this? Did all technology associated with nuclear safety stop improving at some point? Does it ever stop with anything?
Higher and higher pushes for min wage has been decreasing the number of available transitory jobs as well, thus likely hurting more people than it helps.
Housing. On land. With our hands. Unfortunately, the single greatest hurdle is bureacracy which requires layers upon layers of paperwork to build a single thing. On top of that, the taxes don’t help pricing the asset either. Nor do the additional 1000s of pages of regulations that prevent laypeople from making money on that housing.
As a brown minority who travels regularly all throughout the US, I believe your statement only rings true for minorities with strong politically left-leaning identities. The only reason that persuades me against stopping in any location is the price of gas is too high or there’s better food options in the next town. Additionally, I find the contrary to be more true — people in major cities generally make me much more nervous.
I don’t understand why people keep suggesting we throw more money at a broken healthcare system when we already spend more on healthcare than any other country. I agree about spending though, that $ should be allocated towards long-term economic growth(Think quantum computing, fusion energy, etc) - not these half ass short-term measures.
As someone who has owned a business on reservation land, the tribe benefits like any community does from business. They tax the sht out of you, you employ their constituents, you create value for your customers that are local and non-local, & the non-locals buy food or rent a room at the casino. The value for the tribe is absolutely enormous.
