..must have a hell of a lot of downvotes.
> Satellites positioned closer to Earth in LEO can swiftly target and track objects on the ground, providing both low-latency communication and high-resolution sensing capabilities. They also hold the potential for offensive actions, such as deploying interceptors to shoot down rockets or ICBMs during their vulnerable boost phase.
How much is this going to cost? Considering this system can be beaten by scheduling a regular ICBM test and pretending until it's too late and the missiles split into dozens of warheads and destroy an equal number of cities.
When I first heard of hundreds of billions going unaccounted for in pentagon spending each year, that was 30 years ago and the images of f-117s bombing Serbia (and getting shot down) still fresh, that-s where I believed that money went to. I was around 12 back then, so don't me judge to harshly on my naivete.
It would seem Musk doesn't mind.
I don't think you worry about the Russian citizens of Ukraine more than you worry about cheering for your team. You could check the UN reports on what's been happening there during the 8 years of civil war we chose to ignore, as if the world started with Russians "completely unprovoked" invasion. I guess we can both agree that Russian actions aren't silly, dumb or random, but calculated.
I have to admit I don't follow journalism that has lied to me in the past, so I don't know exactly what they're selling you, but I am interested. So what is your position on why Russia attacked Ukraine? For natural resources(I guess geography was taken off the curriculum after I was in school), invasion of the whole of Europe (I remember friends calling me in panic what to do, now that the Russians are coming.. I live in a EU country fairly west), or just pure hatred for Ukrainians in their heart (Balkan style)?
I am wondering how do you chose when to believe in the ICC and when not to?
3 years ago this topic would be full of people protesting this. Pointing out the inhumanity, the potential for abuse, the hypocrisy, the dangers of desensitizing war. Censorship changed the game entirely.
Fact is very specific topics are routinely being suppressed systematically.
Somehow all the disinformation that gets posted on US economic rivals gets unmoderated, while all the shit that's going on in the US or is committed by it's military (or it's sibling the Israeli military) remain completely undebated. There is literally no forum to discuss the wrongdoings of the US in Iraq that lead to the war in the first place and cost over a million people their lives. Have fun repeating your mistakes over and over and sending your children to die and kill other children. And you morons hate the Chinese and Russians more with every day and for all the propaganda that gets posted on this forum.
I can understand now how the doctors must have felt during corona, with all the idiots telling them corona isn't real or dangerous, because they read a headline on reddit/9gag/HN.
This whole thread could be full of people expressing their dissatisfaction with the way HN is being moderated and most would never know. At least everyone is safe from a healthy debate on important subjects like an objective comparison of the US health care system with comparable systems the moderators censored last week.
I have no more intentions of participating in this toxic community. It's pretty evident everyone with a brain left already.
Edit: I'm an idiot. I'm halfway through the documentary now and realized this is about fracking in the US FOR the EU that made buying pipline gas from Russia illegal. Instead we're forced into buying 6x more expensive US gas. Heavy industry is dead, some of my friends are out of work. Enjoy the pollution. At least it's not just the EU population that is getting the shaft by US industrialists.
I'd say for many things it's no choice at all and it's why we have laws in the first place. You rights to speeding in front of schools are being suppressed everywhere. As is your right to homicide, infanticide. Any -cide really is not within your right to perform.
It's what living in a society is all about. "Every man for himself" is natures law; it's what we struggle to overcome and be better. I don't think we would have gotten where we are without rules that govern society.
I'm positive every single individual in this thread that is justifying these actions, would have the opposite opinion if the roles were reversed. It's a shamefully ignorant position to have.
Having been lied to 20 times in a row and still trusting the 21st time is a sign of other problems. It is a good indicator of a populations submissiveness. Admitting to oneself that one has made a mistake investing a lot of money in a product, takes some guts most people don't seem to have. Same as admitting your oh-so-democratic government has obviously been corrupted by the same corporate elements.
The issue is admitting this leads to admitting one was a coward for tolerating it. That's why people double down on the most idiotic positions. I've seen flat earthers and corona deniers do it same as dieselgate apologists.
Unfortunately many of the top trading companies invest a lot of money into anti-regulation propaganda. It's the "trickle down economy" of the 21st century.
I presume only by people who don't know what yellow journalism is as I was quite clear as to why I believe the guardian to be a failing rag.
I really don't see how they could be reality. Do you have any specific arguments or sources for this claim?
> Those sensors cost tens to hundreds of millions of dollars each.
What sensors are you talking about that cost hundreds of millions and requires multiple?
Pythagoras was around the same time. I'd like to warn people that not understanding these basic math concepts makes you appear uneducated to many people internationally.
You have a point there, but only marginally, as current rocket tech is making rapid deployment of satellites a breeze. I'm not talking about Musks or the Chinese reusable rockets - the military doesn't care as much about economics and had the ability to rapidly launch satellites from planes for a long time.
Is there any indication this thing will be able to do anything current methods cannot for a fraction of a fraction of the cost?
