Flockster··on Google’s constant product shutdowns are damaging its brand
My experience with Gmail is the complete opposite. It is far better at filtering spam/phishing - mails than all the other free mail services.
Flockster··on I have chosen the wrong flight dates because your date picker is broken
This, I don't think it's an issue of week-start-conventions.
Flockster··on Ask HN: How do you organise your hard drive?
That is no problem in Firefox to my understanding. Set in the options to always ask where to save the file.
Flockster··on PoC||GTFO-18 [pdf]
"Technical Note: This file, pocorgtfo18.pdf , is valid as a PDF, ZIP, and HTML. It is available in two different variants, but they have the same SHA-1 hash"

Where do I find the second version? Couldn't find the link on the alchemistowl.org webpage, but they are mentioning two different MD5 and SHA256 Hashes.

Flockster··on Backblaze's Hard Drive Stats for Q1 2018
In the section "Lifetime Hard Drive Reliability Statistics", shouldn't the value 0.10% in the high confidence column be greater than the low value?
Flockster··on The growing body of evidence that digital distraction is damaging our minds
By that logic math homework must be super easy, since the content is easy to google (and already in the textbook)..
Flockster··on It’s time to give Firefox another chance
Well I'm running FF 57 right now on my Macs and there is no problem using these gestures.
Flockster··on Angela Merkel’s record on environmental policy has been a disaster
Wasn't it at the WH Correspondants Dinner, where Colbert said to Bush: "He believes the same thing Wednesday, that he believed on Monday, no matter what happened Tuesday. Events can change, this man’s beliefs never will."

I really have a hard time blaming someone for changing views over a legislative period of more than 12 years.

Flockster··on iPhone X
You have to actively look at the display to unlock it. So sleeping wouldn't work.
Flockster··on July was the hottest month ever recorded, according to Nasa
But wasn't that on totally different timescales?
Flockster··on July was the hottest month ever recorded, according to Nasa
Yes, your upfront cost are expensive, because of course the plants have to be build. But that was the case with fossil plants as well, the only difference is, they are already built. But in the long run, it's cheaper due to the lack of needed fuel.
Flockster··on July was the hottest month ever recorded, according to Nasa
Sorry, but at this point this gets absurd. I can understand that for some people it is beneficial to deny the idea of climate change. But since you are already acknowledging the self-evidence of it, how is it "not clear at all", that the change is not human made?
Flockster··on Writing Less Code
That's a pretty nice feature. Is there a browser on iOS which supports that? Safari and Chrome do not seem to reflow.
Flockster··on Raising your kid as a vegan could soon be a crime in Italy
Couldn't the same argument be made for obese kids and diets without enough nessesary vitamins etc?
Flockster··on AMA: We Are the Google Brain Team
So the first AMA answered by AI?
Flockster··on The forbidden railway: Vienna – Pyongyang (2008)
There is a link to the 'detailed travelogue'

Flockster··on World's Fastest Rubik's Cube Solving Robot [video]
Because within the cube, the centerpieces are fixed to a core. And because these define the orientation of the cube and are fixed within the robot you end up having the same orientation every time. This happens with every solving robot that only turns the outer layers of the cube, meaning the inner layers and therefore the centerpieces do not move.
Flockster··on Deep-Spying: Spying Using Smartwatch and Deep Learning
Not to forget, that most Watches are designed to be worn on the left side. (Position of the Buttons etc.) Smartwatches are improving here, in displaying a rotated screen, but often even these are asymmetrical designed and thus harder to use on the right arm.
Flockster··on Facewatch 'thief recognition' CCTV on trial in UK stores
How does that reliably work? Because my impression from consumer products (say Picasa or Apple Photos) is, that starting with 35 to 50 tagged faces, the recommendations produce more false positives than correct ones. I thought that Google/Apple also used Maschine Learning techniques for face recognition.
Flockster··on A Look into Machine Learning's First Cheating Scandal
So how would a better dataset look like? Does bigger always equal harder? What are the criteria to measure that?

And wouldn't video datasets be somewhat easier to analyse given the fact that you have multiple frames of the same object?

Flockster··on Comcast Automatically Enabling IPv6 in San Francisco
justincormack: Yes, you can set up an IPv6 service on your connection if you like. The only problem for IPv4 services is the lack of your own global IPv4 address.
Flockster··on Comcast Automatically Enabling IPv6 in San Francisco
The standard is called Dual-Stack Light, which means you are getting a native IPv6 adress and your IPv4 traffic runs through a carrier-grade NAT. This is necessary, because the cable-providers here in Germany came to late to the Game and got to little IPv4 Chuncks. For normal users this is a good solution, when the NATing service is stable enough. (Sometimes the server is down and you are forced to IPv6 only..) But throug the carrier-grade NAT, you can not run your own services, like a teamspreak server etc.
Flockster··on Tesla Plans to Open Car Doors to All Hackers This Summer
Is there a source for that? I find it hard to believe.
Flockster··on Apple Reports Record Second Quarter Results
Yes, especially casual users, who use it for browsing on the couch. There is no strong pressure to upgrade, when your browser works just fine.
Flockster··on SpaceX Dragon CRS-6 Launch Webcast
Unfortunately it is not viewable in Germany because of copyright problems.

Flockster··on Defining zero factorial
In school it was explained through combinatorics, where the factorial among others tells, in how many ways you can order your set. And an empty set has just one, but it has one, order in which it can be arranged. Now that I am writing this, I'm losing confidence, that this explanation is mathematically correct..
Flockster··on A Double Eclipse of the Sun
Wow, thats a beautiful picture! I really appreciate the work of these people, who are going the extra mile to get these pictures.
Flockster··on Apple iOS Hardware Assisted Screenlock Bruteforce
In that talk he even describes, how they got the fingerprint from the German Secretary of Defense from a photograph taken in a distance of 3m at a press conference.
Flockster··on Apple iOS Hardware Assisted Screenlock Bruteforce
The demonstration by starbug, who won the bounty for cracking TouchID, was made using a fingerprint taken from the screen.
