Fizzadar··on Airbus issues major A320 recall after mid-air incident grounds planes
> Airbus said in a statement that a recent incident involving an A320-family aircraft had revealed that intense solar radiation may corrupt data critical to the functioning of flight controls.

And this is addressed via software update?

Fizzadar··on Ask HN: Have you ever seen a perfect codebase?
I don’t think it exists. An empty folder perhaps. Guaranteed bug free.
Fizzadar··on Warp Terminal changes pricing model
Hard to tell from their main website what warp is anymore - I thought it was a terminal, but now it's an AI code editor? Or is it just a terminal that looks extremely like a code editor? Gotta tap into that sweet unlimited pile of AI cash I guess.
Fizzadar··on Next Steps for the Caddy Project Maintainership
This really hits home, since I’m working on trying to achieve similar spread of maintainership on pyinfra[1] (which I note is much less popular than Caddy). But all the same issues and out of control GH notifications. Hope this goes well, Caddy is awesome software!

Fizzadar··on [dead]
Previously submitted (not by me), but removed due to the usual flagging of all such content. Used actual title so not afowl of HN rules.
Fizzadar··on Bank of England warns of growing risk that AI bubble could burst
When, not if.
Fizzadar··on Ask HN: Have you naturally stopped using AI?
For coding I only use it for simple or easy tasks, given up with anything complicated because I’m sick of hand holding it (I have children already!).

But for marketing… as someone with zero marketing skill, pretty useful.

Fizzadar··on Apple says it may stop shipping to the EU
I believe that 7% is just App Store [1]? Including hardware it’d be much more significant.

Fizzadar··on Apple says it may stop shipping to the EU
This is great so long as the EU keeps its spine and doesn’t budge. Apple has behaved like a petulant child with the DMA and there’s zero chance their shareholders will willingly drop such a significant revenue %. The EU holds a lot of sway here, just don’t blink first please.
Fizzadar··on Helium Browser
Yet another wrapper on chromium, no thank you.

> We'll keep support for MV2 extensions for as long as possible.

“As long as possible” being _exactly_ why chromium wrappers have zero value.

Fizzadar··on EU age verification app not planning desktop support
Depressingly this feels like a long lost battle. I suspect internet freedoms will continue to be eroded and by the time most people care enough it’ll be too late.

My optimistic brain is hopeful for federated services to become the norm and stand up to this kind of crap.

Fizzadar··on UK, Canada and Australia formally recognise Palestinian state
Yet another flagged post, this should be unflagged and returned to the default homepage.
Fizzadar··on Yes, Jimmy Kimmel's suspension was government censorship
The real homepage
Fizzadar··on ABC yanks Jimmy Kimmel’s show ‘indefinitely’ after threat from FCC chair
Sad way HN is moving recently - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44867068
Fizzadar··on Is 4chan the perfect Pirate Bay poster child to justify wider UK site-blocking?
Bought some drives recently having come to the same conclusion. Future of the internet looks bleak.
Fizzadar··on Anthropic's CEO says in 3-6 months, AI will write 90% of the code (March 2025)
100%. How is this even remotely considered newsworthy.
Fizzadar··on UK government advises deleting emails to save water
The problem isn’t home usage, or data centers. It’s the total lack of investment since the water companies were privatised and moved to a model of money extraction for shareholders. Now we have no new capacity in years and more leaks (waste and clean) than ever, and yet it’s always the public who need to save a little more or pay increased bills.

Successive governments (both sides) have been shown to be totally spineless with water regulation, despite significant public outrage. Privatisation has been a huge failure and yet we appear to be stuck in this position.

Fizzadar··on Meta Leaks Part 1: Israel and Meta
Unsurprisingly this has been buried on HN, plenty of posts with way fewer votes per time on page 1. The censorship is everywhere. Utterly depressing.
Fizzadar··on Britain is lowering the voting age to 16. It's getting a mixed reaction
Thrilled Labour actually followed through on this. Especially as the population ages we need some balance to the hordes of retirees voting right so they can keep their oversized homes and ludicrous triple lock at the expense of young people.

Now where’s the age cap?

Fizzadar··on Fascism for First Time Founders
Weirdly another submission of this was just on the front page before it was nuked: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44598153
Fizzadar··on Apple vs the Law
I really hope the EU keeps up the pressure. The level of control the gatekeepers have is beyond ridiculous. Sure there’s the “take your money elsewhere” option but we’re at a point where that’s just not realistic to be a normal person. (My sons nursery for example requires an app that only exists on iOS/Android).

EU looks set to be the only big enough institution with any spine or willingness to take this on. Will probably take years if it ever happens due to all this legal dance bullshit, but I really hope they win eventually, even if it’s just for the benefit of EU citizens (of which I am, sadly, not).

Fizzadar··on Ask HN: To anyone who cares to read this. How old are you roughly?
Mid 30s, started writing code 20 years ago, totally hooked since day one.
Fizzadar··on Festival goers told to remove smartwatches after moshpits spark emergency alerts
Slightly altered title title get in the limit.

Funnily enough smartwatches weren’t tested for this use case. Makes me think of self driving cars running people down in unknown situations. Ah the future.

Fizzadar··on Next.js 15.1 is unusable outside of Vercel
Someone thought it’d be an optimisation to send meta tags outside of the initial request response? For real? The frontend universe is so unhinged.
Fizzadar··on Ask HN: What's your open source stack?
Victoriametrics for metrics (7x ram reduction vs prom), Loki for logs but evaluating Victorialogs. Then grafana for ui. Cannot recommend vm enough, it’s fantastic.
Fizzadar··on Bank transactions cleared by FTP-ing files
There’s a good 5 part series on this from 2014: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7636066. Fascinating how slow and brittle the system is. Even more so that it’s not been upgraded to something real-time (see:Europe).
Fizzadar··on One of Britain's largest health trusts says 'no ta' to Palantir data platform
Sounds like we should adopt this (the homebrew and apparently superior) system to the whole country and dump PLTRs spy stack.
Fizzadar··on Critical Warning for External Purchases in Apple App Store
I’m done with iOS, apples endless anti user/developer bullshit has pushed me over the edge. For my next phone I’ll be moving back to Android-ish something sans google components.

The same process is happening to macOS too, but at least Linux is an easy switch there.

Fizzadar··on Show HN: Lumier – Run macOS VMs in a Docker
https://github.com/sickcodes/Docker-OSX can do it
Fizzadar··on Backblaze: Mounting Losses, Lawsuits, Sham Accounting, Insider Selling
Moved to wasabi from their s3-like b2 product because it was so utterly unreliable. Pretty wild list of things if true.
