FinnKuhn··on Apple discontinues the Mac Pro
I also have a standing desk, and my desktop computer is still on the floor. That way I can just route all the cables to the back and then under the desk to my PC. Looks very clean as well.
FinnKuhn··on I tried to prove I'm not AI. My aunt wasn't convinced
What is the difference between the second option and how they do it in France? I haven't tried it before, but shouldn't that work with foreign documents or without a registered address as well? Or is it more like that it should work in theory, but in practice those documents just aren't accepted?
FinnKuhn··on I tried to prove I'm not AI. My aunt wasn't convinced
What are we doing in Germany?

The options I have seen so far were a) using our digital IDs, which is very handy or b) having a bank verify my identity in person with my ID, which is also pretty good.

FinnKuhn··on Apple Business
Especially due to Apple having a lot less SKUs (compared to Lenovo) and having a lot more control over important parts such as CPUs.
FinnKuhn··on No Terms. No Conditions
As far as I'm concerned this doesn't mean anything legally unless I missed something. Aren't you already responsible for what you do or build anyways?

Or is this somehow meant to mean something else but worded so badly it can't be understood.

FinnKuhn··on Box of Secrets: Discreetly modding an apartment intercom to work with Apple Home
I have one for settings timers when cooking and playing music.

Maybe I'm just not creative enough, but I don't see anything else I would want it to do.

FinnKuhn··on First and Lego Education Partnership Update
This competition was my first experience with programming, but from what I can see RoboCup Junior is still thriving - just with different products controlling the robots now.
FinnKuhn··on Migrating to the EU
The author mentions using them as well, but I personally would have a really hard time trusting any service run by any individual and be it just in case something happens to them.
FinnKuhn··on Why I love NixOS
I think the most interesting use case I have seen so far was for computers that control industrial equipment where you want identical installs on potentially dozens of machines.
FinnKuhn··on AirPods Max 2
I think the Sony XM series is also competing there. At least based on what I see fashion influences wear.
FinnKuhn··on The “small web” is bigger than you might think
Not mine, but I don't think you are: http://www.textfiles.com/underconstruction/
FinnKuhn··on Innocent woman jailed after being misidentified using AI facial recognition
Reminded me of this video of AI software causing an innocent men to be arrested: https://thecivilrightslawyer.com/2026/03/11/ai-software-tell...
FinnKuhn··on Lego's 0.002mm specification and its implications for manufacturing (2025)
The one I have is definitely full of stickers.

FinnKuhn··on Lego's 0.002mm specification and its implications for manufacturing (2025)
In my case I think we can agree that the Lego Icons series is mostly display sets I think. At least those are what I was thinking of and that is how Lego markets them as well.
FinnKuhn··on Lego's 0.002mm specification and its implications for manufacturing (2025)
I have one since a few years (it's a display set) and you can clearly see the stickers now as they haven't aged the same being subjected to sunlight.

I also have a set from another manufacturer that prints everything and there you don't have this problem.

FinnKuhn··on Lego's 0.002mm specification and its implications for manufacturing (2025)
You can argue this for their sets targeting children and I don't think anyone minds stickers on those.

On display sets for multiple hundred Euros however it just looks cheap due to different surfaces and colors - especially as no one is ever going to disassemble these sets.

FinnKuhn··on A basket of new fruit varieties is coming your way
Also love Boskoop, but I feel like they can be more difficult to find than other Apples in German supermarkets.

Any other Apple variety just feels not nearly as juice and regularly too sweet for my taste - especially when you want to use them for baking.

FinnKuhn··on Apple Studio Display and Studio Display XDR
Do you own the matte display version or the default one?
FinnKuhn··on Apple Studio Display and Studio Display XDR
That monitor has a noticeable lower pixel count.

Dell U4025QW: 5120 x 2160 = 11,059,200 vs Apple Studio Display XDR: 5120 x 2880 = 14,745,600

So your display has 25% less pixels.

FinnKuhn··on All Look Same?
I got a bit more than average correct, but they all looked like New Yorkers from the early 2000s to me if I'm honest. Maybe it's because I'm watching Castle right now, or it is indeed because fashion and stylistic choices tell a lot more about when and where someone is from.
FinnKuhn··on Microsoft guide to pirating Harry Potter for LLM training (2024) [removed]
Some lawyer at Microsoft probably had a big scare browsing HN today.
FinnKuhn··on I’m joining OpenAI
While insecure and not something I would use myself (yet) one thing OpenClaw has managed to do is to show people the potential that AI still has.
FinnKuhn··on Archive.today is directing a DDoS attack against my blog
I think there are multiple hurdles that make a new competitor very unlikely.

The first one is money. You need lots of it to run such an operation (servers, IPs, paying to bypass all these paywalls, etc.).

The second one is the legality, as no one wants to be hunted by the FBI, especially not for running a website that is also losing money.

FinnKuhn··on xAI joins SpaceX
Additionally, I feel like a datacenter is going to produce a LOT more heat than the ISS.
FinnKuhn··on A4 Paper Stories
I read the article, but is there any evidence suggesting the Apple measuring app is insecure? It only collects data not linked to you (usage data and diagnostics) and is using the same privacy policy as the Apple camera app, which pretty much every iPhone user is trusting already.
FinnKuhn··on US will ban Wall Street investors from buying single-family homes
Is it not public in the US who owns a company?
FinnKuhn··on A4 Paper Stories
Or just use your phones measuring App. So far the iPhone one has been precise enough for me when on the go.
FinnKuhn··on A4 Paper Stories
German postage for letters is under 20g, under 50g and under 500g so I had this issue a few times so far when sending a few letters a day over a few weeks. You can see it here for international letters for example: https://www.deutschepost.de/en/b/briefe-ins-ausland.html

Thankfully I just had a scale, but I can see this being helpful when you don't.

FinnKuhn··on How I archived 10 years of memories using Spotify
I have one playlist I add songs to I listen to on repeat. Going back through it, it really shows what I was mostly listening to at what time.
FinnKuhn··on Pricing Changes for GitHub Actions
There are plenty of alternatives to Github, from Gitlab and Gittea to Forgejo, but Codeberg is not one of them, which is what I wanted to stress.
