Findeton··on Ask HN: What’s the Next Big Thing?
Obviously Uranium prices are going to explode.
Findeton··on [dead]
This is obviously illegal?
Findeton··on GeForce RTX 3060 Ethereum Mining Restrictions Have Been Broken
These mining restrictions are... interesting, given that Ethereum is about to move towards staking rather soon anyway ..
Findeton··on Coursera S-1 IPO
I'm totally in favour of for-profit education. Obviously teachers need to earn money/eat. Unregulated education tends to have a wide variety to choose from, from free to very expensive, and that's a good thing.
Findeton··on Can’t use iCloud with “true” as the last name
Damn dang you're omniscient.
Findeton··on A Beginner’s Guide to Getting Started with Bitcoin
So what's the intrinsic value of these paper things you call dollars?
Findeton··on AMD Launches Ryzen 5000 Mobile: Zen 3 and Cezanne for Notebooks
I will get a 5800U nevertheless and avoid Apple's walled garden.
Findeton··on Ask HN: What are you working on?
Trying to reproduce Google's DeepView paper[0] to create a platform for lightfield videos.

Findeton··on To the moon: defining and detecting cryptocurrency pump-and-dumps (2018)
Well if the FED and the ECB weren't printing tens of thousands of millions of fake money every month and calling it Quantitative Easing I might have agreed maybe. Truth is government issued money is worth less and less over time, as the scheme is designed to create inflation and thus make government debt sustainable by robbing everyone else's savings year by year.
Findeton··on Ask HN: Show me your half baked project
I am trying to create a light-field video platform, however I'm still at the point of training some CNNs... You can see this at least: https://twitter.com/realFelixRobles/status/13436442924479324...
Findeton··on Apple has threatened to ban Parler from the App Store
I think Apple has the right to ban the app from the store. They own their whole ecosystem and that's perfectly fine with me. At the same time people have the right to protest to put pressure on Apple not to ban it. In the end Apple should be able to do whatever they please, and if people dislike it enough they'll switch to other ecosystems. It's absurd for regulators to try to run Apple "better" than Apple itself.
Findeton··on Jack Ma Is Missing
Well there's a lot of people in here that don't work in SV.
Findeton··on USA vs. Julian Assange Judgment
I am incredibly happy for this ruling, I really hope it stands after the appeals. Freedom of expression and the right to know what oppresive governments are doing are too important to lose.
Findeton··on The Lawyer Trying to Keep Google from Being Broken Up
Google may as well be a monopoly in some sectors (including search and ads), but they don't use physical violence or coercion. Thus, from the view of someone in favour of free markets, I can only oppose forcing Google to split up. It is immoral to force Google to split up, in my opinion.
Findeton··on Ask HN: Is Tesla worth its current evaluation?
No. Next question.
Findeton··on How bad is your Spotify?
Honestly, I switched to funkwhale and I'm not looking back. I prefer to control my own "sound system" like in the old times.
Findeton··on Google Play rejected Tor Browser update with security fixes
I can say Apple's model is not better for me and that's why I use Android. If Android didn't let me basically control my own phone, I would switch to a libre phone even if it was shit.
Findeton··on Ask HN: What is your holiday project?
So far I'm trying to use a dataset[0] to train a ML model[1], to reproduce a paper. It's difficult because actually I am not an expert on ML...

Findeton··on No one can manage projects, especially technology projects
Some things don't change that much. Good luck deprecating Postgres.
Findeton··on PixelNeRF Neural Radiance Fields from One or Few Images
If they make that programmable somehow it could be a great advancement.
Findeton··on PixelNeRF Neural Radiance Fields from One or Few Images
That's very cool but right now that's not really viable is it? Each frame would require to 3d print a different NN?
Findeton··on PixelNeRF Neural Radiance Fields from One or Few Images
NeRFs are very cool and probably the future, but plain old multi-plane images (MPIs) still have their use case. If you want to create a real-time video light-field, MPIs are very fast to render. Although MPIs require a large amount of memory/RAM, rendering them is very fast. In comparison, NeRFs take very little space but rendering in real-time would be challenging at the moment as the NN is an implicit representation of the scene and you need to call the NN multiple times to render each pixel.
Findeton··on Colombia is considering legalizing its cocaine industry
I also know a little about Colombia, being married to a Colombian woman. This just won't happen. Also, market dictates that even if it happened, nothing good would come out of it, and that's nothing to do with Colombia, just pure market behaviour: druglords will still be buying the product, it's just there would be a drive to produce more to cope with this higher demand.

Also Colombia won't become a first world country any time soon, the infrastructure is lacking and the country has three different mountain ranges. Furthermore, and I say it as a Spanish national, their culture comes from the latin/Spanish culture and that has a lot of anti-capitalist cultural implications that will nevertheless drag any possible economic growth.

Findeton··on Ask HN: Holiday Project?
I'll continue with my lightfield video deep-learning project.
Findeton··on Not Quite Nostalgia for the 1980s
That's a cool website, are you a student?

In regards to the topic, the future has NEVER been brighter, even pandemic and all (do you know how terrible pandemics used to be?). Yes there's always corruption and there's always economic bubbles bursting all the time, but no the world is definitely not crumbling.

The actual problem is that kids nowadays are insulated by parents and school from facing real hard problems. So when you face a real problem, your picture of a perfect world that only exists in your bubble crumbles. But the world is not crumbling, and actually the kind of challenges you're facing are absolutely nothing in comparison to what people had to face 20, 50 or 100 years ago.

Findeton··on Extra Ideas for Computing
You could have programmatic contracts where the actions and considerations can be manual, but the state of the contract is automatic.
Findeton··on AMD Ryzen 7 5800U Zen 3 Mobile Cezanne CPU Benchmark Leak Confirms Big IPC Gains
Great, so there isn't really any 4800u laptop yet (not here in the UK anyway) and now they're going to launch 5800u. Are they actually going to release laptops with this CPU this time?
Findeton··on Apple Silicon M1: Black Magic Fuckery
I'm gladly waiting for Ryzen 4800u to actually be available in good quality laptops, or otherwise the next iteration of Intel Mobile CPUs, but like you I won't use Apple's walled gardens (except for work, as I'm forced to).
Findeton··on 2020 Mac Mini – Putting Apple Silicon M1 To The Test
Exactly, I don't care whatever they do, I'm not buying into their closed garden of eden. I've already replaced Spotify with Funkwhale, and I'm using Linux, I'm not their target and I'll never be.
Findeton··on Ask HN: Why Isn't Open Source Voting Software Mandated?
I don't know but my brother has a secure electronic voting company with open source software https//nvotes.com
