Findeton··on Ask HN: Netflix doing mass layoffs today?
Unless employees save up money, then you are always prepared.
Findeton··on 'Terminating Internet Access over Piracy Claims Is Drastic and Overbroad'
Because it's not private property. When something is a private property, that means that if I have 100% of it, you have 0% of it. That doesn't happen with, for example, songs. I can have 100% of a song and listen to it as much as I want and that doesn't mean you can't have and listen that song as well.

Copyright (and patents) are a limited monopoly granted by the state, thus they are inherently immoral, as everything that any government does, as they do that by the use of force.

Other way to look at it is that ideas are not scarce at all and it's copyright/patents/the government that creates scarcity where there's abundance.

Findeton··on Argentina's Senate approves bill to eliminate income tax
It's just not true. They want to eliminate capital gains tax on income. Which shouldn't ever exist.
Findeton··on Does Market Timing Work?
What is “the markets” for you? If you mean the stocks in in indexes you’re right, but that’s not the whole market.
Findeton··on Does Market Timing Work?
Absolutely no chance that AI is able to do that. Investing decisions are too subjective for the current state of AI. A good value investor knows this… and also knows that you don’t need a bull market to make decent returns.
Findeton··on Argentina’s Economic Crisis Has Become a Political Crisis
I thought it was an account number.
Findeton··on Argentina’s Economic Crisis Has Become a Political Crisis
Milei is not far right, he's just libertarian. How can you consider him far right when he's liberal in social issues?
Findeton··on Liberalism against capitalism, equality/freedom are incompatible with capitalism
So you're saying the illegal drugs market exists inside governments.
Findeton··on Liberalism against capitalism, equality/freedom are incompatible with capitalism
I for one celebrate that "capitalism" takes precedence over politics. Because he actually means free markets, people making their own decisions instead of politicians and bureaucrats making decisions in the name of everyone else.
Findeton··on Liberalism against capitalism, equality/freedom are incompatible with capitalism
We're all different and our experiences will always be different.

We need to strive for justice. And that means judging the actions of individuals, not the outcomes (so say goodbye to "social" justice). If the actions are fair, then whatever the outcome, the outcome will be fair.

Findeton··on Liberalism against capitalism, equality/freedom are incompatible with capitalism
This obviously means John Rawls is wrong, equality is not something to strive for and his definition of freedom is just plain wrong.
Findeton··on Ask HN: Is the Market Recovering?
Inflation is going down and that means less consumption. That means worse profits. That means less jobs. We'll see but there's a reason even the FED models are predicting a recession in Q4/Q1.
Findeton··on Privatisation has been a costly failure in Britain
There are way more customers outside the unions that inside.
Findeton··on Germany Achieves Record 57.7% Renewable Energy Share for First Half of 2023
Renewable energy is unpredictable, thus you need a backup source of energy for when there's no wind, sunlight or rain. It's yet unfeasible to store large amounts of energy unfortunately so that means using either natural gas or coal, because you need to be able to rapidly increase/reduce/regulate the energy output. It's coal at the moment for Germany and that means more pollution and dirty politicians that don't care about the environment, just about votes. Actually nuclear power plants can nowadays also regulate their output fast enough, but they got rid of those.
Findeton··on Anna’s Archive: Open-source data library
I fully agree with them, copyright is a limited monopoly granted by governments. It doesn't have the properties of private property, it's an artificial limitation to creative work/ideas, which is basically unlimited by nature. It's government intervention creating scarcity where there isn't scarcity, it's an evil intervention of government on the free market.
Findeton··on An Excel error led Austria's SPÖ to announce the wrong candidate as the winner
It benefits those who don't have to pay higher taxes (ie everybody) because of austerity.
Findeton··on Do we need copyright? (2012)
No we don’t. It’s against property rights.
Findeton··on He wrote a book on a rare subject. Then a ChatGPT replica appeared on Amazon
But, I'm sure the people who wrote the book mentioned in the article can rest easy: creativity, knowledge, and originality are still valuable, and LLMs are not (yet) able to reproduce those.
Findeton··on Bank Failures Visualized
And Credit Suisse although it's not on the US.
Findeton··on Federal Reserve lent $300B in emergency funds to banks in the past week
This is another QE/Quantitative Easing, even if they don't call it that way. I hope inflation doesn't come back/get higher again because then we'd likely see the kind of second wave inflation people saw in the 70s.
Findeton··on The Future Dominance of Solar and Wind Energy
Correct but that means that no, we can't go all renewable right now. It actually means that when you add renewable, you're still about 70-80% dependent on natural gas (or coal) because of the very intermittent nature of solar/wind energy. And hydroelectric energy is (mostly, as some ecologist will protest) great but not scalable.
Findeton··on The Future Dominance of Solar and Wind Energy
It's just not scalable yet. That's the truth of the matter.
Findeton··on The Future Dominance of Solar and Wind Energy
Because they store energy as fat. Electric systems can't do that.
Findeton··on The Future Dominance of Solar and Wind Energy
Solar and wind are intermittent sources of energy and Nat Gas, Coal or even Nuclear are needed to back solar/wind when they don't work, which is 70-80% of the time!

You can see here (wind energy generation is the red one) how crazy it would be to think wind could replace gas/nuclear energy. And this is not a single wind tower but for the whole Ontario province.

Findeton··on More than 60k rent-stabilized apartments are now vacant
Expropriation, it always works /sarcasm
Findeton··on More than 60k rent-stabilized apartments are now vacant
It does hold, just remove healthcare regulation and remove all patents altogether.
Findeton··on Why some countries are leading the shift to green energy
Because they have money and they don't mind burning it.
Findeton··on Why we ignore thousands of daily car crashes
Because you can walk in all cities and towns in Poland.

Findeton··on There Is No Such Thing as a Petrodollar [Eurodollar University, Ep. 215]
I like Snider but I think he's wrong in regards to monetary inflation. QE has lowered down the interest rates for so long that it has moved investors away from long term real investments like oil or natural gas towards short-term investments like tech. And that's what's created inflation in the end: not enough investment in oil/natural gas/resources.
