EugeneOZ··on Most iPhone owners see little to no value in Apple Intelligence so far
Please Apple, add an option to let Siri transfer my requests over the internet to handle them with an actually intelligent helper. Currently, Siri is only good for setting timers.
EugeneOZ··on The correct amount of ads is zero
I did cancel my subscription to Amazon Prime because of this exact reason.

Try playing WoW with a new account. The initial mission has incredibly ugly graphics (much worse than the main game), a flat progress bar during loading (literally just a simple blue rectangle - no borders, gradients, or shadows, just something that a basic box(x, y, x1, y1) function would draw), and a yellow rectangle instead of a rope connecting your hero to a flying vehicle. It’s not a 3D bar, just a 2D yellow rectangle that looks like a censorship block on the screen, and you’re supposed to imagine it’s a rope hanging from a helicopter-like vehicle.

I understand it’s an old game, but these parts seem like pure laziness. I’m sure this laziness costs them a lot of players who leave the initial mission in disgust and never get to see the beautiful parts of WoW.

No OLED = skip. Your microBlaBla just causes headeaches.
EugeneOZ··on Why don't we use awnings anymore (2022)
Still popular in Spain.
EugeneOZ··on NASA spacecraft to probe possibility of life in Europa's salty ocean
Thanks a lot!

Will the levels of radiation allow life to exist there?
EugeneOZ··on The Death of LCDs, Means New Life for Chips
~45000 / 7 hours per day = 17 years.

17 years ago was 2007 - I can’t remember every TV our family had since 2007, but it was more than one or two, for sure.

EugeneOZ··on The Death of LCDs, Means New Life for Chips
No, it doesn't include everyone.

My daughter loves to put a beautiful image on her iPad and make it stay like a picture frame for hours. She’s a kid, she doesn't care if pixels burn out, and if I try to prohibit it, it will just happen more often.

For me, OLED is better, sure.

EugeneOZ··on CSS @property and the new style
Your comment is quite unfair to the author, who explained every part of the complicated CSS ruleset. It's not a copy-paste, for sure.
EugeneOZ··on CSS @property and the new style
No, it's not what we all are thinking.

Moving work from JS to the browser’s native, polished, tested implementation with optimized performance is the right thing to do.

EugeneOZ··on Starlink U-turns, will block X in Brazil after all
Appointed - has influence, it is too simple to pretend that you don't understand it. And no need for allegory - it is just an attempt to deceive your opponent.
EugeneOZ··on Telegram founder Pavel Durov arrested at French airport
3 of his kids are in Moscow. Under Putin’s control.

Pavel Durov tries to play the “victim” to create a legitimate image for himself and Telegram.

EugeneOZ··on Are you better than a language model at predicting the next word?
Just proves why IQ tests are worthless.

As often happens with minimalistic approaches, it only looks interesting on very small and very simple examples.

After “How would they handle large data?” it turns into an unreadable mess.

Communication between elements is not covered, global deps, DOM updates scheduling, content projection, and so on - you “just don't need it” in small demo examples, but you do need it in the real apps.

EugeneOZ··on Kim Dotcom's extradition to the U.S. given green light by New Zealand
Maybe here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorism_in_the_United_Kingdo...

> The 2023 CONTEST report indicated that 75 per cent of the Security Service (MI5)'s caseload was from monitoring Islamist threats.

I don't support the violence and ultra-right (or just right) wings. I think that people have the right to protest.

EugeneOZ··on Kim Dotcom's extradition to the U.S. given green light by New Zealand
That case of murder was not the only reason. And while it is based on misinformation (and I agree it was made on purpose), just one case would not cause the riots. It was just “the last drop”.
EugeneOZ··on Apple's requirements are about to hit creators and fans on Patreon
One more reason to avoid app stores and build/use PWA or just web apps.
EugeneOZ··on RLHF is just barely RL
TDD approach could play the RL role.
EugeneOZ··on Dear Safari, Things I Hate About You
Well, for a company so dedicated to Safari, you could design your site with better Safari iOS support ;)

No. It's like you are allowed to use search engines to find a solution, nothing more than that.

Github’s attitude and perception of the terms “privacy” and “security” - it is more important.
EugeneOZ··on CrowdStrike broke Debian and Rocky Linux months ago

EugeneOZ··on Good code is rarely read
The person you interviewed gave a better definition. “Code that is easy to read” is often a good code. Code that is rarely read only exists in the manager’s imagination.
