EugeneOZ··on Spain’s LaLiga has blocked access to freedom.gov
Just checked - not blocked, works just fine (Adamo and Vodafone).
EugeneOZ··on Gemini 3.1 Pro
Still not usable in production, not even near. But I'm happy to see any progress in this area.

You still need a human (working at human speed) to review every generated line, if it’s not a throwaway app or some demo to impress investors.

This isn't just you
EugeneOZ··on I’m leaving Redis for SolidQueue
Chapter "The True Cost of Redis" surprised me.

> Deploy, version, patch, and monitor the server software

And with PostgreSQL you don't need it?

> Configure a persistence strategy. Do you choose RDB snapshots, AOF logs, or both?

It's a one-time decision. You don't need to do it daily.

> Sustain network connectivity, including firewall rules, between Rails and Redis

And for a PostgreSQL DB you don't need it?

> Authenticate your Redis clients

And your PostgreSQL works without that?

> Build and care for a high availability (HA) Redis cluster

If you want a cluster of PostgreSQL databases, perhaps you will do that too.

People like Einstein would find a solution.
EugeneOZ··on Total monthly number of StackOverflow questions over time
The volume of basic questions is unlimited. There are new technologies every year.
EugeneOZ··on Total monthly number of StackOverflow questions over time
That would be true if no new technologies were created every year (even more often).
EugeneOZ··on LLMs Are Not Fun
> Using LLMs undercuts both

Absolutely disagree. I use LLM to speed up the process and ONLY accept code that I would write myself.

EugeneOZ··on Downloadable movie posters from the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s

EugeneOZ··on Anubis saved our websites from a DDoS attack
No, it's not equal. These URLs might not be critical for users — they can still browse other parts of the site. If rate limiting is implemented for, let’s say, 3% of URLs, then 97% of the website will still be usable during a DoS attack.
EugeneOZ··on Anubis saved our websites from a DDoS attack
The point is to reduce the server load produced by bots.

Honest AI scrapers use the information to learn, which increases their value, and the owner of the scraped server has to pay for it, getting nothing back — there's nothing honest about it. Search engines give you visitors, AI spiders only take your money.

EugeneOZ··on JetBrains defends removal of negative reviews for unpopular AI Assistant
If I rename a function in Cursor, will it modify the name everywhere in the codebase? (I honestly don't know)
EugeneOZ··on Widespread power outage in Spain and Portugal
My son was at the university outside of Barcelona, and I lost contact with him for 6 hours. He was traveling home, and I knew that the roads had no working semaphores, and there were dozens of incidents...

I lost some years today.

My son is fine, thanks to a random person (“the man with a rabbit”) who just decided to give a lift to my son and his friend to the edge of Barcelona.
