EdwardDiego··on Addressing the adding situation
I hope you have a moustache you can twiddle while saying this. Possibly followed by a "Nyah!"

They claim it only points about your doings, but even then...

Haha yeah, the downside is that it does love to eat struts. But gorgeous how it corners.
EdwardDiego··on Tested: 1981 Datsun 280ZX Turbo (1981)
A lot.

I too am a Nissan diehard, I just bought a P10 Primera eGT, the British built one, and regret very much selling my previous 4WD P10 (to be honest though, the dicky idle valve was very annoying), but that 4WD was amazing.

And yeah, driving my current P10, the steering feeling is so much more... real, my son owns a P12, and it feels far more disconnected from the road.

(I also drive a 350XV Fuga, and gosh darn, that VQ35DE(NEO) engine is a rather lovely V6).

I still do - good quality Datto Fairladys (as they were sold in my country) attract very good resale prices here. They're just so gorgeous, and they do fang it nicely.
EdwardDiego··on 10 years of writing a blog nobody reads
I am now intrigued in your blog, if it's still online?
EdwardDiego··on Why I stopped using JSON for my APIs
As another user suggested, Avro is something to look into.
EdwardDiego··on Mixpanel Security Breach
But I thought the submitted title was misleading and there's no breach? You seem unsure.
EdwardDiego··on Mixpanel Security Breach
"A security incident" is a nicer way of saying "security breach" once you run it through legal counsel.

The article you're reading states...

"We took comprehensive steps to _contain_ and eradicate unauthorized access"

That's a breach my friend.

EdwardDiego··on Several core problems with Rust
Yet they spent ages trying to determine the actual cause of the failure, according to their postmortem, so I'm not sure what the advantage you're positing is?
EdwardDiego··on Band of Holes
That was rather good, thank you!
EdwardDiego··on Disney Lost Roger Rabbit
> I admittedly haven't read that rambling post, but...

...you probably should.

EdwardDiego··on According to a Google leak, we’re all to blame for poor quality search results (2024)
If I click onto your website, and immediately hit back, that's a sign it wasn't a great website for my needs.

If I click in, and spend a bit of time reading, maybe I even scroll through your archive of previous articles, then that's a good sign, yeah?

What do you consider a better metric for user engagement?

EdwardDiego··on Middlemen Are Eating the World (and That's Good, Actually)
Both are acceptable though. My <noun> side, and my <adjective> side both work.
EdwardDiego··on Why don't people return their shopping carts?
I didn't see a mention of "they resent being gouged for essentials by oligopolies, and so signal defiance by not returning the cart". But it's real, especially as the cost of living rises faster than inflation.
EdwardDiego··on Raccoons are showing early signs of domestication
My wife and I wish our country didn't have such restrictive biosecurity laws, because AWWW THEIR CUTE LITTLE HANDS....

(I mean, there's good reasons my country does have those laws, and I don't _really_ want to have a wild animal as a pet, but I kinda do.)

EdwardDiego··on Unexpected things that are people
Haha, it's all good, and it gets fun when you hit the South Island / Te Waipounamu dialect of Māori where a maunga is a mauka, and sky is raki not rangi, but both variants are still used.

A classroom at my childrens' primary school was called Maungatere (floating mountain) after a nearby mountain which is now called Maukatere, same meaning.

Likewise the local iwi/tribe in my area is known both as Kāi Tahu and Ngāi Tahu, and there's a town in North Canterbury called Rangiora, which translates to, roughly "Good sky", while the 3rd largest island of Aotearoa New Zealand is called Rakiura / Stewart Island, Rakiura meaning "Glowing sky".

And our tallest mountain Aoraki / Mount Cook used to be Aorangi / Mount Cook.

And to be fair, "Mounga" is a decent rendition of how you pronounce "Maunga".

EdwardDiego··on Nevada Governor's office covered up Boring Co safety violations
Looking at the CAS number[1], it's the sodium oxide component of it that's likely the problem, yeah.

And yep, Na2O + H20 -> 2 NaOH, sodium hydroxide :)

Maunga :)
EdwardDiego··on Drilling down on Uncle Sam's proposed TP-Link ban
I was thinking - wonder if anyone in Trump's inner circle took at short position on TP-Link before this? There's a lot of people who seem to have amazing insights into policy positions the US government is about to take.
EdwardDiego··on How the UK lost its shipbuilding industry
> Even today, Asian shipyards have people crawling all over them.

When you don't have a minimum wage, or your minimum wage is vastly lower than other competitors, it's far more efficient to hire more people than to invest in process improvements.

EdwardDiego··on How the UK lost its shipbuilding industry
There's lots of rare earth deposits all over the world, but the question is, are you willing to accept the pollution that results from extracting them as efficiently as possible?

China's "If it develops a market, yes" answer to that is their strategic advantage.

Nope, it's how Claude formats ticks, apparently.

I was going to say "Needs more emojis", then I scrolled down, and phew! Purple tick box emojis! I was worried a human was in the loop for a second.

Thank God for LLM!

> Thank you for the context! That makes sense - runc is correctly rounding to 10ms (410000) as systemd requires.

You're absolutely right! I shall now commit ritualised suicide based on your feedback! <arrow in target emoji>

Could you perhaps provide more context beyond a link?

EdwardDiego··on Game design is simple
Dwarf Fortress (like the classic Boatmurder) also. The Paradox games, especially Crusader Kings led to some great story writing if you read AARs.

It's every section header starting with an emoji that's blatant LLM slop indicator. I'd love to know why LLMs love emojis so much.
