EA··on AirPods Pro
I like this tech but unless I buy a second pair, I don't see a reasonable way to use these on long airplane flights as they only offer 4.5 hours of battery power.

"With no occlusion, the flat-panel collector is more efficient than the spherical-surface collector by a factor of more than 2."

"Considering the occlusion factor, the spherical-surface collector can be the better choice in certain situations"

EA··on Destruction of evidence charges filed for remotely wiping iPhone
There are many office/lab environments where personal electronic devices cannot be present for various reasons (security, EMI, etc.). Metal safes and lock boxes are common places to store PEDs when entering those environments.
EA··on Billboards are an old but booming ad medium
When I drive across Germany, England, and Ireland, I rarely ever see a billboard.

Are there any tools online to see billboard density maps per country?

We are to the point where the camera(s) are not just capturing a 2D bitmap. They are using camera(s) and other sensors to create 3D depth maps to offer on-device scene manipulation. We are in the beginning stages of capturing 3D images which offer the user the ability to change focus, lighting, and entire scenes. Check out photometric modeling and the Lytro camera systems.

You can run PiVPN (via, say, OpenVPN) to tunnel back to your PiHole. Just tell PiVPN to use your PiHole DNS. You can VPN into the same rPi as PiHole and get an ad-free experience when you are not at your home.
EA··on Eight Years On, Google Fiber Is a Faint Echo of the Disruption Promised
Our city just built a fiber network and GF was the first to offer service.

Since they have come to town, ATT has installed their own fiber network in our neighborhood and Comcast has increased their speeds. I consider our local area disrupted. And I feel no matter what happens with GF, we’ll have faster internet from now on.

BTW: cut the cord. GF 1Gb plan with DirecTV Now and YouTube TV.

EA··on Waze Carpool
A major reason it is very popular in Israel is because Waze was founded in Israel. They also got started with VC from Israeli companies.

EA··on Is Bitcoin surge driven by paid-publicity (similar to US election story)?
Why shouldn't it be? With the cheap electricity and their massive population, they have a very high mining power per capita potential.
EA··on How to Get Rich Playing Video Games Online
There is basically no mention of the hit game on HN. It is presently a video game phenomenon and is inspiring video game developers to explore that video game genre.

That particular streamer is changing the streaming game and is invested in some third party streamer support apps. He has broad appeal as little kids dressed up as this Twitch streamer for Halloween this year.

I think an article about the game, its streamers, the revenue sharing, and how Twitch is evolving would make the front page of HN.

That is all. No hidden agenda.

EA··on How to Get Rich Playing Video Games Online
No mention of Dr. Disrespect - a Twitch persona who recently won "Streamer of the Year" at the Esports Industry Awards.

Just a passing mention of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, a game which according to some is growing faster than Minecraft did. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is the most popular streamed game on Twitch right now. The game regularly has over 2,000,000 concurrent players, has sold over 13,000,000 copies, and is still in beta with just one multiplayer map. It has been the most popular game on Steam for a few months. Some digital items obtained from loot crates have sold for over $1,000.

There is a whole ecosystem that has developed underneath the Twitch platform where secondary services help gamers overlay responsive graphics over the video stream as well as take donations. Top PUBG streamers can make well over $1,000 per night in donations on top of their cut of the Twitch subscription fee.

While doing a CrossFit workout, we were using the native iOS timer (because our favorite timer app from the app store doesn't work on iOS 11) and saw the time skip ahead by 8 seconds. It was confirmed by my Casio watch that was running in sync with the iPhone's timer.
EA··on Apple’s Struggle to Get the iPhone X to Market on Time
The iPhone X won't look at 2D flat bitmaps of someone's face. It will be looking at a moving 3D map of someone's face.

They have servos on the wings and neck of the birds. On the back is an rPi or some small computer. They have a long wire antenna (looked to be 1 meter long) dangling from the computer.

I am guessing they are controlling the servos via the rPi and doing midcourse updates over the air.

EA··on Credit-card-rewards guru Brian Kelly says we’re in a “golden age” of travel
I know someone who churns credit cards systematically (you know, follows a regimen like suggested in the article) and has been traveling with his family around the world for years, taking trips every 4 to 6 weeks.

That doesn't sound too "boring".

In fact, we churned cards a few years ago to pay for our trip to Europe. We took our toddler.

I would like to know where this "boring" life is that parents have. At times, I could use some of that.
