Which exchange do you think SpaceX will be listed?

And why is it the TXSE?

DudeOpotomus··on SEC approves Texas Stock Exchange, first new US integrated exchange in decades
Isnt it amazing how few people actually pay attention let alone ask themselves "why?".

The worst part? HN users are much better educated and tend to be much smarter than the average person. If this audience is so easily manipulated, it's no wonder the larger population is being controlled by such obvious tactics.

sigh...

DudeOpotomus··on US cities pay too much for buses
Hard to figure this one with busses costing millions to purchase and tens of thousands a year to maintain. Not too mention drivers, bus stops, paint, etc.

No way that using cheaply available vans and part time drivers would ever cost more over time.

In my city in SoCal, busses are mostly empty. They are rarely full, and only at special events.

DudeOpotomus··on SEC approves Texas Stock Exchange, first new US integrated exchange in decades
When you can buy a Governor, you buy a Governor.

When you can buy a State, you buy a State.

When you can buy a SCOTUS Justice, you buy a SCOTUS Justice or 6.

When you can buy a POTUS, you buy a POTUS.

Elon bought them all and many of you cheer. Says more about you than Elon but speaks mountains about the core of our culture and our national ethos but mostly about how easy it is to pervert people and their false ideology with money.

DudeOpotomus··on US cities pay too much for buses
In many municipalities, it would be cheaper to run on demand van service for people than run busses. Not only would it get people to and from their actual homes and work, vans are cheap and readily available. Paying more drivers is cheaper than buying and maintaining multi million dollar busses that are empty a lot of the time.

In most of CA, most homes are far from bus lines. Making their use prohibitive for all but those who must use them. I know they do something like this in LA. People love it.

DudeOpotomus··on Resurrect the Old Web
The old web hid search results from behind paywalls and logins.

New web literally makes Google worthless for 80% of my searches.

q: What will the web / social media be like when the only people using it are idiots and the poor?

DudeOpotomus··on Americans Lose Faith That Hard Work Leads to Economic Gains, WSJ-NORC Poll Finds
The hardest working people in society are paid the least. We created a system of financial engineering that has bifurcated society. The sad part is it's only going to get worse as those with money will have access to the tools and resources that will allow them to accelerate their position.

Conflating wealth for success is a big part of why we're here. Success in life is not the same as success at life and as we all personally know, money is no indicator of one's intelligence, abilities or personality. In face, any idiot can make money and it takes a true sociopath to earn billions without pure luck...

DudeOpotomus··on They're Killing the Humanities on Purpose
I'd say that this is a take only for your time, not for all time. For all time, learning about the humanities has shown to further one's ability to reason, create and imagine. IMHO Curiosity paired with an understanding of humanity (social skills) will become the most valuable job skills. The ability to talk and connect with people will outweigh any technical skill. You can only do this by understanding humanity and living in a society that promotes and fosters humanity.

In the near term, AI will override any and all non-physical skills. However AI is not able to create or imagine, it can only mimic and regurgitate. Additionally, it cannot fix a leaking shower, and it cannot make your bed. Add in physical real-world limitations and complexities,(randomness and disorder), and you have a world where physical skills and artistic abilities will dominate.

People will value authenticity, human touch and the magic that is human creativity (love) more and more as the non-physical world becomes less and less real.

Makers, Do-ers, Designers and Caretakers will dominate the workforce in 25 years.

DudeOpotomus··on "None of These Books Are Obscene": Judge Strikes Down Much of FL's Book Ban Bill
Associating good vs evil with politics and perhaps worse, political party's themselves is a problem.

Why do people associate these disparate things? Because they've been trained to...

Sadly, this tribalism is at the root of most of our civil disagreements these days.

DudeOpotomus··on "None of These Books Are Obscene": Judge Strikes Down Much of FL's Book Ban Bill
At no time in human history have the people who banned books been on the good side.
DudeOpotomus··on EPA Moves to Cancel $7B in Grants for Solar Energy
Trump is a gift to our adversaries. They could not have created a better path to overtaking the USA in science, tech, healthcare and defense.

Sure makes one wonder if he is legitimately this stupid or if he has been legitimately compromised.

DudeOpotomus··on AI overviews cause massive drop in search clicks
You never should have made any money to begin with... That's the reality. The entire ad floated universe is a farce in time and space.
DudeOpotomus··on AI overviews cause massive drop in search clicks
There is no right to make money. Period.

If you did, that doesnt mean you should. If you can, that doesnt mean you should.

DudeOpotomus··on Hyatt Hotels are using algorithmic Rest “smoking detectors”
This is what actually kills brands. The funny thing is our collective memory is short, so a brand killed by poor product and bad decisions is often revitalized by PE a few years later, because of brand recognition.
DudeOpotomus··on Hyatt Hotels are using algorithmic Rest “smoking detectors”
This isnt exactly true. They do not own the property but their contracts give them full ownership over policies and processes of the location. It's an essential part of their brand by the way, to assure continuity.
DudeOpotomus··on Hyatt Hotels are using algorithmic Rest “smoking detectors”
No, it's just stupidity and myopia. Like those screens that replaced glass beverage cases in liquor stores a few years ago. Not one customer liked them. Not one customer wanted them and the results were beyond terrible. People literally stopped buying. But people actually invested millions into that company and other people actually bought their products and thought "gee this is great". Imagine how disconnected you have to be from your customers to make such an investment and/or installation for a few bucks? Stupid is as stupid does...
DudeOpotomus··on Hyatt Hotels are using algorithmic Rest “smoking detectors”
Religious freedom may come into play here. Incense and candles are a basis for many faiths so assigning a fee on people practicing their faith will cost them in court and in payouts.
DudeOpotomus··on Hyatt Hotels are using algorithmic Rest “smoking detectors”
If I got one of these I'd pay it and never, ever, ever stay at any hotel owned by the entity again. Being that I spend $25k-50k a year on hotels, their loss is a small hotel's gain.

In fact, whoever does this will lose my business ahead of time as I will never stay at any hotel that uses this service. A few minutes on Tripadvisor and you'll know.

Such incredible business myopia. Hotels are one of the few businesses that loyalty is not only a boon, but a necessity for survival. Without brand loyalty, hotels suffer.

DudeOpotomus··on Oakland cops gave ICE license plate data; SFPD also illegally shared with feds
True. They also do not hold insurance and typically do not have drivers licenses. Although CA will give one to anyone with a pulse...

Having been hit twice by non-insured, non-licensed drivers with no paperwork or legal status, they got off free while I had to pay for their crimes, damage and increased insurance rates for years. No sympathy at all for cheaters. Arrest them and confiscate their cars.

DudeOpotomus··on I'm done with social media – Or: why I have a blog now
It's 2025 and McDonald's is still the #1 most popular restaurant in the whole world.

Social Media is fast food. The masses will consume it to their death...

The rest of the population is bifurcating. The only people who will remain on Social Media will be poor, uneducated and the stupid. Not that different than the people who eat fast food, often.

DudeOpotomus··on 'Click-to-cancel' rule is blocked
Ideology is not policy...

Policy is hard. Ideology is easy. Reading these comments, it appears that most of you haven't a clue how the sausage is actually made.

DudeOpotomus··on Man 'refused entry into US' as border control catch him with bald JD Vance meme
The dude lambasts the US because he has tattoos on his face and implanted metal in his body and was singled out by security. Security's job is to look for people who are out of the ordinary. Since most security people are not very bright, they're going to go after the shiny lure. But somehow, this becomes about sexualizing women? WT actual F??

People who put tattoos on their face are looking for attention. Attention is exactly what he got.

Obviously the guy has never traveled to Asia. He'd be singled out in every port and every station. Sounds like he lives a tidy life in No Europe. Where bald white guys with face tattoos and body armor are normal and only brown people are singled out in security lines...

DudeOpotomus··on Man 'refused entry into US' as border control catch him with bald JD Vance meme
Isnt that why you did all that to your body? To get attention from other people? This was just not the kind of attention you thought you'd get...

Drawing attention to yourself results in attention. Who knew.

DudeOpotomus··on YouTube's new anti-adblock measures
How old are you? I wonder if you were exposed to the world before advertising took over every aspect of our lives. Before the most valueable companies in the world were based on media and advertising sales.

If you were alive before ad tech ate the world, you'd have a very different take on this whole thing.

DudeOpotomus··on YouTube's new anti-adblock measures
Ad tech is the reason our society is so polarized. YouTube and Google fund the disinformation and propaganda universe. These fringe people never had a chance to broadcast let alone become wealthy before Google put ads on everything. And now, not only are they given a platform, they're rewarded for being the loudest, most angry, most polarizing, most obnoxious people possible.

Rewarding sensationalism without any oversight is the core problem with society today.

Profits over priciples.

What's nuts is reading thought this thread and reading comments from all the people who think that earning money with digital content is a right. And worse, that because they've earned money in the past, they're entitled to do it forever.

There are no longer any guard rails on sensationalism and since the only measure of success is by the very Fox guarding the Henhouse, it's optimized for the Fox's profit, not public's health and society's principles.

Advertising ruined the world. Ad Tech is a cancer.

DudeOpotomus··on High-school shop students attract skilled-trades job offers
Very low skill trade. Takes a few weeks of training. It is a business ripe for consolidation because of this fact.
DudeOpotomus··on High-school shop students attract skilled-trades job offers
The facts are that the overwhelming majority of Trades(people), are terrible business people. They may be excellent at their jobs, but very, very , very few have the business skills to build a solid business. Those who do, do extremely well well. Those who hire people who have the skill, do really, really well.

Not that different from engineers. Very few have business skills, but those who do, do very well.

DudeOpotomus··on High-school shop students attract skilled-trades job offers
Yes, when I was young. Pre internet days.

In the last 25 years, I've built 3 houses and remodeled half a dozen others. Worked very closely with these guys across the entire spectrum. From the unskilled, trying to cheat their way, to the 75 year old 50yr Journeyman who will never retire because he loves it.

The trades were decimated by immigration and the race for cheaper labor, higher margins. What were once solid middle class jobs, were undercut by unskilled labor masquerading as skilled. Over time, the market raised the rate of the unskilled and lowered the rate of the skilled. Prices rose to meet the market but quality declined. Unskilled were charging the same rates as skilled.

Today there are very few Journeyman tradesmen left. They were forced out. Which is why the market is crying for these skills and awarding them with high wages.

Looking forward, the entire nation is lined up to build. Those who mange this growth and bring the skills, will become wealthy.

DudeOpotomus··on High-school shop students attract skilled-trades job offers
In America 2025, there is no better path to a high income and quality of life than learning a trade, then learning how to manage other tradespeople and then owning a company for such a trade.

In the trades, if you are slightly smarter than average, have a good work ethic and an inkling of entrepreneurial drive, you will be very successful.
