DonCopal··on Belarus has shut down the internet amid a controversial election
Spread information via Bluetooth.
DonCopal··on StackExchange Performance Stats
Much performance! Yet they don't even have a button to select all of code in a codeblock.
DonCopal··on Giving GPT-3 a Turing Test
The Voight Kampff test is an emotional reaction test, not an intelligence test.
DonCopal··on Siri, What Time Is It in London?
Because it's closer than London, Ontario.

DonCopal··on Ask HN: How can I run a program for 1 month against my will?
Make a program which changes the password that you mention to something random (as in, the executable executes Random() on start and changes the password). After that the programs waits for one month and at the end outputs that string to you. This has the effect that 1. killing the process won't do anything because the password is alredy changed 2. you can't figure out what's the new password because it was created during runtime and it's random 3. you have to wait for 1 month for sleep command to finish and outpuy be displayed in the console.

DonCopal··on Show HN: Explore Wikipedia edits made by institutions, companies and governments
You do realize that if an employer makes an edit during work, the IP will be of the company. Your title makes it seem like it's the official stance of the whole company.
DonCopal··on Userscripts Are Fun and Are Still Very Much Relevant
This is how Hacker News looks like with my script: https://i.imgur.com/We97pJC.png

Numbers on the left (11, 12, 13) are shortcuts to open a thread (for example, pressing 14 opens the "Userscripts are fun..." thread).

Numbers after that (e.g. 65,20) are karma and number of comments, respectively.

Much more compact than the default layout and shows better which topics are hot.

DonCopal··on Renaming files with mv without typing the name two times
It goes to show that terminal fanatics still haven't find a simple solution to this problem even after 50 years.
DonCopal··on Three free meals available daily for any New Yorker
To stock upon food to have available after the pandemic. Over many days you could amass quite a lot.
DonCopal··on Three free meals available daily for any New Yorker
How are they going to check that you don't go multiple times?

Also, how are you going to prove how many children you have? So a father goes first and says "give me meals for my 5 kids", then a mother goes a bit later and says "meals for my 7 kids, please" and then a mother-in-law if she lives with them can pick up some more.

DonCopal··on What's Happening with the Coronavirus
Does anybody find surprising that India only has 3 infected? Out of 1.3 billion? And they are a neighboring country?
DonCopal··on Ask HN: What change in your programming technique has been most transformative?
Clever:

    for(let i=0;i<100;)console.log((++i%3?'':'fizz')+(i%5?'':'buzz')||i)
Readable:

  for (let i = 1; i <= 100; i++) {
      if (i % 3 == 0 && i % 5 == 0) {
        console.log("FizzBuzz");
    } else if (i % 3 == 0) {
        console.log("Fizz");
    } else if (i % 5 == 0) {
        console.log("Buzz");
    } else {
        console.log(i);
    }
}

But how can you be sure there's no additional code being run on their server?
DonCopal··on Wikipedia now has more than 6M articles in English
The only problem with Wikipedia is figuring out in what revision was a certain text added. There are 2 tools, but they are not very good.

DonCopal··on Show HN: YouTube-dl wrapper with added features to easily manage YouTube audio
I also use --audio-quality 0 because it can be between 0 (best) and 9 (worst) and the default is 5.
DonCopal··on Android programming, looking for good guides for beginners
I don't know why you get downvoted. If they are a complete beginner, they should go to https://developer.android.com/guide and first learn about the concepts such as Intents, Resources, Android Manifest, Activities/Fragments etc. It's all there in one place.
DonCopal··on Kramnik and AlphaZero: How to Rethink Chess‎
I guess a submission won't gain traction if you don't mention "AlphaZero" in the title:

DonCopal··on Every bookmark manager ever made
You could make a program that would fetch the content of those sites and use those libraries that create word frequency clouds to get the most common word. Then this word would be the category. An interesting weekend project idea.
DonCopal··on Every bookmark manager ever made
Vimium sort of does this. If you press O and input a term, you get results from your history, but if you don't select any, it will google this term. You can also press B, which searches bookmarks specifically, and again if it doesn't find anything, it will search the term on Google. Also I find this B often gives better results than Google's address bar autocompletion.
DonCopal··on An open-source browser extension to auto-skip sponsored segments on YouTube
The problem is you'd need to download the audio from YouTube first to analyse it. Or even the video if it would somehow detect it from image. Not only is this slow, but also against the terms of service. With a podcast you already have the audio.
