DiggyJohnson··on They tried Made in the USA – it was too expensive for their customers
Lawn mowing seems like one of the more dangerous things that a typical person does. It's the snow shoveling of the summer.
DiggyJohnson··on Show HN: I built the tool I wished existed for moving Stripe between countries
That’s a pretty bold take. I bet they’re a few months out. And I don’t think it makes sense to characterize it as a “field day” for stripe’s legal department - trademark enforcement isn’t a profit center. More likely a lightly edited boilerplate letter and a timeline to comply, which GP has already acknowledged.
DiggyJohnson··on Grammarly acquires Superhuman
What do you like about their UI and what are your main use cases?
DiggyJohnson··on Aesop in Words of One Syllable
Well said. And same with “schools” and then even more with “schooled”. But just for those who word it in a way that mind the rule.
DiggyJohnson··on Aesop in Words of One Syllable
Fantastic link. Does anyone know how he produced his animated slides and how they were controlled during the talk?
DiggyJohnson··on Australians to face age checks from search engines
> it would suck for the ruling class though because we'd have to stop feeding kids religion

This seems out of place and unrelated. If anything Gen Z and presumable Alpha, eventually, are more religious than their parents.

DiggyJohnson··on The new skill in AI is not prompting, it's context engineering
This seems like a rather unimportant type of mistake, especially because the definition is still accurate, it’s just the etymology isn’t complete.
DiggyJohnson··on The $25k car is going extinct?
Spiritual boomers?
DiggyJohnson··on America's Coming Smoke Epidemic
Are you being serious?
DiggyJohnson··on America’s incarceration rate is in decline
What was the nature of her illness and was it directly related to the kids? If you don’t mind me asking, of course. That sounds like a very challenging thing all the best
DiggyJohnson··on America’s incarceration rate is in decline
This is a much more reasonable position than many will believe. I think writing like a 19th century nonfiction author probably contributes to that aha

Edit:

To be clear I appreciate this comment and agree with it in the large. It’s hard to talk about these things without being quickly dismissed in the current zeitgeist.

DiggyJohnson··on A skyscraper that could have toppled over in the wind (1995)
What you think of as a “floor” is more accurately described as hanging off the support structure.
DiggyJohnson··on David Attenborough at 99: 'I will not see how the story ends'
What do you think he means when he says “how the story ends”?
DiggyJohnson··on The Army’s Newest Recruits: Tech Execs From Meta, OpenAI and More
I think that would lead to even less civilized relationships between politicians and parties. Politicians throwing their rivals into courts and prison is not usually an aspect of a healthy civil society.
DiggyJohnson··on The Army’s Newest Recruits: Tech Execs From Meta, OpenAI and More
Amen, similar experience here. There are parts of the US federal government that aspire to and excel in the way you have described.

Of course the opposite is true too. But it bothers me that much of the discourse on both sides tend to ignore the high functioning projects and sectors. It’s a cool professional experience to take part in.

DiggyJohnson··on If the moon were only 1 pixel: A tediously accurate solar system model (2014)
Slow down by pulling on the fishing line tied to the back of it, carefully.
DiggyJohnson··on Why Koreans ask what year you were born
US English doesn’t really have an informal version of “sir” for the situation you described. Closest would be “hey” or “yo” etc. but those aren’t even (pro)nouns.
DiggyJohnson··on Why Koreans ask what year you were born
Same. I work with a girl with first name Emily last name rhymes with “Wacky”. The latter is so much for fun to say and avoids collisions.
DiggyJohnson··on Why Koreans ask what year you were born
Your comments boggles me. You understand their point and immediately misapply that understanding.
DiggyJohnson··on Why Koreans ask what year you were born
Small tech firms are notorious outliers when it comes to this though
DiggyJohnson··on Unfit for Work – The startling rise of disability in America
Interesting perspective. A lot of the nuance and disagreement comes from what we mean when we say “incapable”.
DiggyJohnson··on New study casts doubt on the likelihood of Milky Way collision with Andromeda
We should all close our eyes and imagine the insanity of two stars directly colliding. My goodness.
DiggyJohnson··on New study casts doubt on the likelihood of Milky Way collision with Andromeda
My lay question is would the discovery of a fuckton of cold objects like dust or rogue planets or cold sub brown dwarfs clear up the dark matter issue regarding the spin of galaxies?
DiggyJohnson··on The UI future is colourful and dimensional
I'm not sure how that is relevant. Pulling up someone's unrelated comments because you disagree with the current discussion is discouraged at best.
DiggyJohnson··on The UI future is colourful and dimensional
because of the information / functionality density and the fact that it's optimized for power users
DiggyJohnson··on What are people doing? Live-ish estimates based on global population dynamics
> 20x

What do you think the actual number is in terms of dedicated hours per day?

DiggyJohnson··on Malicious compliance by booking an available meeting room
Private property though so they could eject you right?
DiggyJohnson··on Ugly infrastructure: Why can't we have nice things?
There's a middle ground between cheap and beautiful: "functional". I think you're being a bit hyperbolic in this discussion.
DiggyJohnson··on Ugly infrastructure: Why can't we have nice things?
I think their point is a good one: that there is a reason that things got this way and it’s easy to underestimate the costs associated with beauty.

I wouldn’t read it as a “beef with beauty”.

DiggyJohnson··on Model Organisms Are Not Static
Thanks for the explanation that’s very interesting.
