DiggyJohnson··on Charlie Kirk killed at event in Utah
A gun license literally means you are licensed to use this weapon for sport or self defense.

I’m not a public figure but I support the 2A, would you feel sorry for me if I was shot giving a speech?

Would you feel different if Charlie was murdered by a machete or hand grenade?

DiggyJohnson··on Charlie Kirk killed at event in Utah
That is a definition of “violence” that does not register with most people, and especially in a discussion of one of the most brutal public murders we’ve seen in awhile in this country
DiggyJohnson··on Charlie Kirk killed at event in Utah
> Kirk both personally and as part of his group advocated for using violence to achieve goals.

In what universe?!

DiggyJohnson··on Charlie Kirk killed at event in Utah
And we give our car licenses. Doesn’t mean you can run over your political adversaries. I didn’t expect the popularity of this line of reasoning: being pro-2A means license to kill. This is sickening.
DiggyJohnson··on Charlie Kirk killed at event in Utah
That is a ridiculous thing to say. In my opinion it’s unconscionable. His point was never “the second amendment is good because you can murder those you disagree with.”
DiggyJohnson··on Charlie Kirk killed at event in Utah
Both of these murders are among the most gruesome and (unfortunately) enigmatic I’ve ever seen. This is not the society we want.
DiggyJohnson··on Charlie Kirk killed at event in Utah
You don’t have sympathy for a non-violent public figure being brutally murdered at a speaking event on campus? That’s messed up.

I don't see why you're being so snarky about popular games just to say that if you were to play them, you would do it on the proprietary system, PS5, which you already own. That's not sticking it to anyone at all.
DiggyJohnson··on Compare the New iPhone Models
Seems like it just has to do with what you're expecting from a smartphone camera. I feel like Google Pixel is doing even more photo edit magic than iPhone.
DiggyJohnson··on Compare the New iPhone Models
its their slick financing products btw
DiggyJohnson··on How Britain built some of the world’s safest roads
Funniest thing I've heard a kid say all month. My colleague's 7 year old daughter to him:

D: "Dad why does everyone honk at mom when she drive's us to school?"

F: "Because she drives too slow sometimes."

D: "Why doesn't she speed up?"

F: "I don't know. She's always been like that."

D: "I tried saying people are waiting for us to go [referring to a pretty benign yield right-on-red near their house]."

F: "How'd that go?"

D: "She didn't listen!"

I don't know why but it was absolutely hysterical to me. Kids are precious.

Any more detail on this? Never heard this terminology before

DiggyJohnson··on Why insurers worry the world could soon become uninsurable
Presumably they could try and find a different insurance firm or a boutique.
DiggyJohnson··on Is economics education fit for the 21st century?
This thread isn’t about Trump
DiggyJohnson··on Leonardo Chiariglione – Co-founder of MPEG
Why are you arguing so hard against someone that simply stated “I was interested in pursuing this topic as a career when I was in college but then I learned more about the field and decided to pursue something else”?
DiggyJohnson··on Is economics education fit for the 21st century?
This is unrelated and divisive. How does it have to do with the actual content of the post?
DiggyJohnson··on Genie 3: A new frontier for world models
I genuinely have no idea where you’re coming from on this. You’re assuming way too much about everyone you disagree with

Appreciate the answer, I do think that is a good perspective.
DiggyJohnson··on If you're remote, ramble
I’m neutral on this topic between you and GP, but I do think you’re discounting the fact that distrust can be legitimate. You’re assuming that we should trust blindly, it seems.
DiggyJohnson··on If you're remote, ramble
How do you mean?

Always funny to see these sort of missed connections on HN.

In my personal experience the problem is the total lack of writing culture at non-premiere companies.

Put differently: unless you’re working on a great team at a great organization roughly 90% of people cannot be expected to write/read well as a component of technical collaboration. Any thoughts on that? I may just be too cynical

DiggyJohnson··on Why leather is best motorcycle protection [video]
The tone of this reply and the accusation of dishonesty is out of line with the HN guidelines. You could have easily edited this comment to be inquisitive and conversational. The last sentence is ridiculous. You don’t know any of these things.

I’m usually the last person to take this side of a discussion but I don’t see how feasible since:

  - the existence species regeneration does not imply the incentivize to regenerate and manage the vast majority of extinct species
  - lack of gene samples for vast majority of species
  - we don’t and are not very close to having a viable model for environment and species fitness so we can’t accurately model what specifies to regenerate
  - new species populations have to be managed before and after initial release
  - land and labor capital investment
DiggyJohnson··on Animated Cursors
Best of luck! I know how hard it can be to find time and energy for these sorts of projects, but this is cool
DiggyJohnson··on Animated Cursors
That would actually be cool. We have a couple issue patterns with the interface between front and backend that leads to our frontend guys always misinterpreting the reason their API call are failing. Wound be cool to annotate “this error message is usually caused by another error message in <this controller>. Please check for this before assuming…”

In almost all cases the best policy solution balances idealistic/theoretical goals with feasibility/pragmatism. A two dimensional analysis. This is more effective in nearly all domains, including this one.

Or from a different direction: if your method of analysis leads you to believe a HN contributor “want to enable people to be criminals” based on their policy preference about KYC, you’re not taking the discussion seriously.

DiggyJohnson··on I'm dialing back my LLM usage
I think it’s just we are at a point where many are coming to this realization around the same time. You did an excellent job summarizing it though.
