I am a software engineering student at the University of Northern Colorado. Currently I am conducting undergraduate research on the use of autonomous drones for fire mitigation.

In my free time, of which there is little, I enjoy music, wine, podcasts, and spending time in the mountains with my partner and our 4-year-old husky.

DenverCode··on Apple is forced to include charger for not demonstrating environmental benefits
This title is very misleading. This is for Sao Paulo, Brazil only.
DenverCode··on How Microsoft crushed Slack
Curious, what was lacking with your experience of Slack on Linux? I haven't experienced any issues at all.
DenverCode··on We read the paper that forced Timnit Gebru out of Google
It was published? Where?
DenverCode··on An update to storage policies across your Google Account
I recently switched to FastMail and couldn’t be happier.
DenverCode··on I Created a Trading Simulator
I had a couple of interviews at trading firms and the largest ones required skill tests such as clicking buttons within a specific time period, riddles, etc.

Why does living in the valley constitute whether or not you can be opinionated about tech? Maybe I'm ignorant to the fact, but is this a belief that people hold?
DenverCode··on Pine retail stores vs. community stores
While I can't find the press release he put out, here is the original discussion with Phil (@PhilM). He responds to a lot of the questions and makes statements regarding his actions in it. Hopefully this will help you see his side a little better.

DenverCode··on Designers, Developers – Do You Know Your Worth?
I spent last summer working an unpaid internship after my offer was rescinded from another company due to COVID and would jump at even minimum wage at this point.

Like myself, the students I have spoken with are also struggling to find something for summer 2021 that isn't unpaid. Maybe this is different as it's an internship, but low pay is currently better than the alternative of no pay - especially when you have bills to pay.

DenverCode··on Pine retail stores vs. community stores
Phil Muller had been storing all funds in his personal bank account. The community desired more control over how the funds were used so OpenCollective and CommunityBridge were elected for fund collection - although Phil still holds more in his account then is stored in both CO and CB combined.

Jonathon Fernyhough, a well known member of the Manjaro community, was placed in charge of managing the funds.

Phil wanted to use $2k to purchase a laptop for one of the developers and wanted to bypass the process. This resulted in a debate between the two and ultimately Phil fired him and made himself treasurer. The community took to the forums to inquire into what Phil was doing, and he began locking/deleting threads and banning moderators.

That mixed with the deals he was cutting, proprietary software, as well as the SSL craziness (twice), really turned me off to them and I lost faith in the distro.

Interested in how you feel about all the issues at Manjaro - specifically related to all the drama concerning Phil and funds.

It is something you view as a non-issue or is it just not enough to make you look elsewhere? I'm genuinely curious.

Best.

DenverCode··on Ask HN: Top Udemy Courses?
I enjoyed Spring Framework 5: Beginner to Guru as well as the complete Node.js Developer Course.

With that said, I regret paying for them. All the information is available in documentation that would have helped me understand the concepts deeper - had I just started there.

Thank you!
DenverCode··on Show HN: Critique My First Portfolio
I am currently a college senior hoping to eventually land a job as a backend developer. I would love to hear ways I can improve my portfolio or things I am simply doing wrong. Just trying to get it right.
DenverCode··on Who gains most from canceling student debt?
The article mentions the book Room to Grow which has low rating on GoodReads. Has anyone read it?
DenverCode··on A True Google Mess
I recently just did the same after realizing GSuite doesn’t work with half of my logins.

I switched my domain from Google to Cloudfare, switched from Gmail to FastMail, kept google photos on a personal Gmail account that is never used, and signed up with Qobuz music.

DenverCode··on Ask HN: What are some of your favorite journals or magazines?
> Lately I have been looking into how museums put together exhibits and how to integrate some of their approaches into web or print publishing.

That is a fascinating approach. Do you have any examples?

DenverCode··on Ask HN: What are some of your favorite journals or magazines?
I've been interested in this, but it's a steep price to pay without a preview of their work - I'm a college student so funds are tight.

DenverCode··on US Navy destroyer shoots down an ICBM in milestone test
Interesting, all of the training exercises I took part in were scripted and essentially just "training" without any real counters.
DenverCode··on We can do better than DuckDuckGo
I also have no issues with DDG but most of my searches are pretty specific or I'll just end up at the Wikipedia page anyway.

Other than that, I've been using [Runaroo](https://www.runnaroo.com) as well.

DenverCode··on US Navy destroyer shoots down an ICBM in milestone test
During my time in the Navy, there was a paper being passed around the officers concerning removing aircraft carriers from the fleet. Reason being that a single shot to the flight deck would render them useless in the aspect of air warfare and defense.
