Metux himself also has some "fascinating" takes as archived from other projects such as the LKML [1] and Devuan [2] mailing lists

He also wrote the book "Public Opinion" in 1922 [1] which explained how the US mass media apparatus could be used to influence the common man.
Walter Lippmann is spinning in his grave
He got a bunch of old hats to sign their name to...what, exactly. A C64 on an FPGA? That he tried to lock down before getting backlash from the community? [2]
But none of that answers the question. What's the point?. Are "super fans" just paying through the nose because having something with the word "Commodore" on it truly means that much more to them?
"Mr. Fractic" has done nothing but shell out money and is now trying to recoup his investment. He created nothing (the phone was AI hallucinated for god sake) and seems to just be hoping that folks making actual new equipment around the C64 (and I guess Amiga?) sign on to get his blessed license. But, again. What are they buying?

But the thing I've truly struggled to understand, particularly with PeriFractic and his bleating of "I OWN THE COMMODORE NAME NOW!" is just
...who cares? If you like Commodore stuff, great. Do things that make you happy. But does having a C64 with "the commodore name" printed on it owned by some slop peddling youtuber (both in his embracement of LLM's and that bizarre "dumb phone but also not" project) truly change anything for fans?
If you're buying an "A1200 accelerator" does the fact it says "AMIGA" on it make it more valuable than if it just said "68K accelerator" or some other generic term?
Hey, hey
Did you know
Multiple things can in fact, be bad
There's no room for dissent against the slop bot for some reason
The great thing about retro computing is we want to see what people come up with. Not slop bots!
I suggest instead you go read up on why people dislike them and gain a more well-rounded and nuanced understanding of the topic
Many people refuse to use LLM's for various reasons that I don't need to rehash here
Half-Life (and the later Source engine games such as Half-Life 2 and Portal) were ported without LLM assistance however
(Source: I am in the Discord where the developer has been working and diligently posting updates on the project)
What if we make a better world for everyone, instead of a planetary crab bucket?
To imply that every single person there was evil to their core simply by association is utterly ridiculous.
I doubt the guy who created Minesweeper was dreaming of world domination while working there
...Normie?
What does that even mean in this context
The reality is none of the companies want to do these things. Every step in this process locks out some subset of customers. And that's not including the ones who meet the technical requirements but are turned off enough by the decision to just avoid the games anyway
They're an unfortunate response to how utterly profitable and expansive cheating in online games has become. They cost the companies precious development time that could be spent making the game better to instead make it just vaguely "playable" for normal people
I talk about computer history. Is my knowledge not valid just because I'm "on youtube" ?
I only complain because I put in over $1,000 USD as part of a crowd funding campaign to do just that
...13 years ago :(
The Mental Omega folks are also known to have a complete archive of everything which is why their "mod" is such a technical achievement above what the game engine can normally do
