Crontab··on Older Workers May Be Less Susceptible to Burnout
Also, willing to take naps.
Crontab··on U.S. Accuses Google of Illegally Protecting Monopoly
I find it interesting that the Trump administration was only joined in this action by Republican-led states.
Crontab··on Ask HN: What product, etc. do you think is snake oil?
CBD.
Crontab··on Non-Posix File Systems
That sounds right to me but it has been a while.
Crontab··on Is anybody still using Windows 95?
My apologies, I was specifically referring to text-based/console-based applications. All the GUI text editors seem to wrap and unwrap just fine.
Crontab··on Is anybody still using Windows 95?
I really don't want a word processor, per se, so much as I want really robust (realtime) text wrapping/unwrapping as I edit paragraphs. I've tried to get Vim and Emacs to do reflows but both were very flakey compared to something like WordPerfect for DOS.
Crontab··on Non-Posix File Systems
I think the thing that I found most interesting on Plan9 was using union directories to set the search path.
Crontab··on OpenZFS Merged to FreeBSD
I would like to see NetBSD follow suite but I don't know if they have the manpower to do so.
Crontab··on Apple forcing app developers to implement auto-billing after free trial
So it can't grab a person's iTunes Gift card balance?
Crontab··on macOS Catalina 10.15.5
That's been my experience on my mid-2013 Macbook Air - for what it is worth.
Crontab··on The State of the AWK
Thanks for posting this. I'll give it a watch.
Crontab··on Western Digital admits 2TB-6TB WD Red NAS drives use shingled magnetic recording
The site the article links to put up a companion article that explains the technology:

Crontab··on Chelsea Manning ordered to be released [pdf]
My understanding is the Manning was refusing to testify to the Wikileaks/Assange grand jury - so this was basically being held for contempt of court.
Crontab··on Roam: Why I Love It and How I Use It
I just read about this and find it interesting. Two questions:

1. Is Roam text only? I haven't noticed any images in the examples I have seen so far.

2. What is its business model? I didn't see any pricing information.

Crontab··on W3C recommends WebAssembly
This sounds interesting, but personally, I am worried that this will just turn into yet another browser technology that will be used to abuse and track users. I really hope I am wrong.
Crontab··on Indiana manipulated report on Amazon worker’s death, investigation says
This is sad. I used to work in a warehouse and we were mandated to have training in proper forklift use. There is no excuse for Amazon not conducting proper training.

The Indiana officials who tried to cover this up should have their ass put in a sling.

Crontab··on Earliest known draft of the King James Bible discovered
This may be off-topic but is there any consensus on what is the most accurate translation of the bible into English?
Crontab··on macOS 10.15 Vista
I remember friends bitching about Vista's UAC prompts but I never really had an issue with it. I suspect that was because their main experience was with Windows XP, which pretty much did everything with admin rights.
Crontab··on Personal information and ads on Twitter
I tried making a new account two or three months ago. Twitter sent me a verification email, which I confirmed, but they immediately requested phone verification as well - even though I had never been able to use the account in any way. I refused and never opened an account because of that.

The sceptic in me thinks this is more about advertising and less about security.

Crontab··on Richard Stallman steps down as as head of the GNU Project, effective immediately
I think this shows the danger that anyone who posts under their real name faces. Make a bad joke, or hold a wrong opinion, and you can find yourself out of work.
Crontab··on Google Chrome Keystone is modifying /var symlink on non SIP Macs causing k-panic
> I feel alienated from my computer. Subtle things will just change.

I sometimes feel like companies have used the guise of "protecting novice users" as a means to take away our freedoms and increase their power (e.g. Google forcing updates on Chrome; Microsoft forcing updates and telemetry on Windows; Apple prohibiting non-app store applications and iOS downgrades). Of course, Linux and BSD exist, but many people don't want to deal with them.

The whole situation is just depressing to me.

Crontab··on Apple is evaluating new keyboard mechanisms to make thinner MacBooks
Yes, I know, but I don't want a pointing device that is intermingled with my keyboard.
Crontab··on Apple is evaluating new keyboard mechanisms to make thinner MacBooks
I would consider a Thinkpad if Lenovo gave us the option of buying it without the nipple - which I feel is an awful pointing device (sorry, people who love it).
Crontab··on Mysterious Avid Issue Knocks Out Mac Pro Workstations Across Hollywood
Personally, I actually like the design of the current Mac Pro, but I can understand why many wouldn't.
Crontab··on The Secret History of Dune
Personally speaking? I don't think so. I liked the first one but the rest felt like a cashing-in attempt. But that seems to be the case with everything these days.
Crontab··on The Secret History of Dune
Hey, thanks for this link. I can't believe I haven't come across this before now.
Crontab··on If You Lose Your iPhone, You Can’t Pay Your Apple Card Bill on the Web
Borrow one or buy a new one - just like you would in any other lost phone event?
Crontab··on Ask HN: What are the first things you do on a new Windows 10 PC? Any checklists?
The first thing I do is update the BIOS, download the newest drivers and a copy of Firefox, and create install media. I would then perform a clean install. I liked doing this to make sure I was clear of any junkware (as a don't trust uninstallers) and to make sure my installation media worked.

After reinstalling I would create a new, regular, user account for normal use.

Crontab··on Hackers ship their exploits directly to their target’s mailroom
Mailing a bunch of "free" and "promotional" USB drives, prepared with zero-day malware, would probably work too. Especially if it was official looking.
Crontab··on Ex-Joyeur
That would be interesting.
