CraftThatBlock··on Small satellites are radically remaking space exploration
SpaceX does have a smallsat ride sharing program. The Starlink-8 launch was the first one (with 2 smallsats from SkySat), and the upcoming Starlink-9 also has 1 (BlackSky Global).

CraftThatBlock··on Google faces €600k privacy fine in Belgium
Google spends ~2.5B in operating expenses per week, so that's a rounding error.
CraftThatBlock··on Deno vs. Node (cold-start on AWS lambda)
The author didn't bundle, so it's like running `npm install && npm run build` on every start
CraftThatBlock··on Deno vs. Node (cold-start on AWS lambda)
Did the author not bundle their Deno project before uploading it? This would be as if they ran Webpack on Node on each start, so this isn't really a proper comparison
CraftThatBlock··on Godot 4.0 gets SDF based real-time global illumination
There's C# and C++ support, with third-party bindings to other languages (Rust, Python, etc)
CraftThatBlock··on The End of OS X
Except when they broke most Homebrew installations a few years back (Mojave maybe? Been using Linux for a while now too, that was my tipping point)
CraftThatBlock··on AdoptOpenJDK Joins Eclipse Foundation
I feel like the new name doesn't reflect what this project is about. "Eclipse Adoptium" is too abstract, and sounds like a Eclipse feature. I think that just adding Eclipse as a prefix would have been easier.
CraftThatBlock··on GitHub isn't fun anymore
That's true, I mostly stayed away from Bedrock, so it's hard to say on that front. I understand the split, but Java itself has been very well maintained
CraftThatBlock··on GitHub isn't fun anymore
As a Minecraft player, I agree. They let the teams run with more resources, and it has shown in both quality and features in both companies. GitHub recently has been killing in with features IMO
CraftThatBlock··on Do Not Follow JavaScript Trends
Hooks isn't a replacement for Redux though. It enables you to build state management in an easier way, but Redux is not just holding state, it describes the change of state
CraftThatBlock··on Do Not Follow JavaScript Trends
CS Modules are still not the "default", this space is still up in the air. There's CSS-in-JS (like styled-components or Emotion), Sass, plain CSS, etc.
CraftThatBlock··on Userinterface.js – A small library to build front-end JavaScript applications
I should have said that it's the best in my opinion. I think people from different backgrounds do prefer different methods, for example Vue seems very popular with PHP.
CraftThatBlock··on Userinterface.js – A small library to build front-end JavaScript applications
I agree. htm in my eyes in a mix between JSX and templates, and does strike a good balance.
CraftThatBlock··on Userinterface.js – A small library to build front-end JavaScript applications
Without JSX (or templates), writing HTML as JS is quite painful. Some don't like JSX but it is truly the best way to write HTML in JS.
CraftThatBlock··on SpaceX makes history with successful first human space launch
Non-natural born American is still American. This is what immigration is.
CraftThatBlock··on Frameworkless Movement
Node developer. Web developer. Doesn't really work fully.
CraftThatBlock··on Type Safety with Native JavaScript
This is type-safety, but not type-checking. The 2 are entirely different problems, and can complement each other.

I don't see this being adapted for any project since it doesn't provide any real benefit over using something like TypeScript, which won't let you do these types of mistakes.

Do you want to handle the errors (this) or not have errors (TS)? Pretty easy answer on my end.

CraftThatBlock··on Ask HN: What startup/technology is on your 'to watch' list?
This is how APUs (which is what the PS4/PS5/Xbox) use memory, the RAM is shared between the graphics and compute units. This can be an advantage since memory is quickly shared between the two (for example loading textures, etc).

This is also useful in computers since adding more RAM also adds more VRAM

CraftThatBlock··on Programming Inside a Container
Docker on macOS runs inside a Linux VM, so yes it's functionally identical. The performance issues arise from FS mostly due to macOS (see post at top of front-page earlier)
CraftThatBlock··on Microsoft takes on Netlify, Vercel with static web app publishing
What would be the benefits vs hitting your API directly? (Having a "normal" API server)
CraftThatBlock··on Microsoft takes on Netlify, Vercel with static web app publishing
Seems like most companies have one of these, including Google (Firebase Hosting + Functions). It seems like a common platform, however I always have trouble imagining what is the use case, especially in scalability (Function/Lambda is fine for small projects, but feels like it's not widely scalable and still has a lot or limitations)
CraftThatBlock··on Signal PINs
I don't need a habit, I have a password manager.
CraftThatBlock··on Spotify signs ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ to an exclusive multi-year deal
The main problem is Spotify isn't a podcast app. I don't listen to music like I do podcast, and I don't want my queue there because music would mix in, and it can easily reset.

Also, most "real" podcast app have better playback options. I want to be able to see chapters, and skip silence, but forcing to use Spotify for an open format is bad for everyone. Podcasts are great because they are open, and give you choices in playback apps.

CraftThatBlock··on Signal PINs
I know my PIN yet it asks me everytime I open the app. It's extremely annoying. I wouldn't mind once a month, but it seems like it's 1 a week (which doesn't seem true, I feel like it's more every 2-3 days for me).

I just wish there was an option to ask less frequently.

CraftThatBlock··on Show HN: Hacker News Dark Mode
Feels a bit too blue. Maybe replacing the background with a darker and grayer color would make it easier to the eyes
CraftThatBlock··on Show HN: Make your site’s pages faster than instant in one minute
This is incorrect. It starts loading on mouse down, but still acts on mouse up.

CraftThatBlock··on Many ways where GCP excels over AWS
Ah true, although like you said Hire was more a tangent product to G Suite, so not exactly Cloud related, but still business-facing. Thanks for reminding me
CraftThatBlock··on Many ways where GCP excels over AWS
Has Google EOL any Cloud products? I don't remember any being shutdown recently at least. Since these are money-making products (unlike maybe other good customer-facing products), there's a lot less reasons to shut things down IMO
CraftThatBlock··on Ask HN: What are your favorite developer-efficiency tips?
Same for IntelliJ-based editor! It's incredibly useful to store the .http files inside git repos, an have it tracked alongside with code. It's similar to Postman or Insomnia, but tracked (and synced), and built-in
