CraftThatBlock··on Apple unveils M1, its first system-on-a-chip for portable Mac computers
Apple said that only virtualization will be supported on their ARM chips. Locked through the bootloader (although wouldn't be surprised if exploits are released to load up Linux/Windows)
CraftThatBlock··on Apple unveils M1, its first system-on-a-chip for portable Mac computers
Which was severely underpowered because the cooling solution was knee-capped. This is partly Intel's fault, but they made their last-gen so underwhelming that this _had_ to be better
CraftThatBlock··on I don't care what Elon Musk thinks anymore
Most of his SpaceX tweets are usually pretty informative, but there's a good amount of memes and jokes in there for sure.
CraftThatBlock··on CSVs: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
I think the OP was talking more about:

    ["name","address"]
    ["Bob","1 Apple Street"]
    ["John","2 Apple Street"]
It's compatible with JSON Lines, and mostly equivalent to CSVs, at least how they are most commonly used.

CraftThatBlock··on Graphical User Interface Using Flutter in Embedded Systems [pdf]
Android pre-dates Wayland by a while, so from my understanding, if Android has a solution before, why would it need to migrate to Wayland? Also mobile use-cases and concerns are fairly different from desktop.
CraftThatBlock··on Ask HN: What did you purchase that measurably improved your quality of life?
I'd pay for YouTube Premium if it was just ad-free, and didn't bundle Red and Music. I'd easily pay 5$CAD/month for it, but at 15$CAD, it's a fairly steep price, and still doesn't remove all pop-ups and such.

Vanced provides the YouTube I want, I'd pay it that was available.

CraftThatBlock··on AMD Zen 3/Ryzen 5000 announcement [video]
They skipped 4000 because of their mobile/APU series, which always used +1000 in the model number:

- Zen 2 desktop: 3000 - Zen 2 mobile/APU: 4000

This way, Zen 3 will all be on 5000

CraftThatBlock··on Shapez.io: open-source base building game inspired by Factorio
Not sure how true this is, since both Chrome and Firefox use ANGLE as their default WebGL backend (at least on Windows).

CraftThatBlock··on Cloudflare keeps sending emails over a year after account was cancelled
I can also echo this. I was interesting in one of there products (can't remember which) and after a call where I said I was interested, and they never emailed me back, even after I sent a follow up.

The self-serve platform is great and I wish all products were self-serve, because dealing with sale teams is very annoying when you're just trying to evaluate a product.

CraftThatBlock··on New things in Android 11
My OnePlus let's me see QR code and passwords for Wi-Fo networks without root.
CraftThatBlock··on New things in Android 11
What device are you using? I'm using a OnePlus on Android 11 and it's just one item in the share sheet, nothing special about it. This is likely device-specific
CraftThatBlock··on New things in Android 11
- Autofill API works great on Android, I've been using 1Password for a while

- Camera is usually device-specific, but my Pixel/OnePlus devices have usually been very good at this

- Google released the "Nearby Share" feature a couple weeks ago

- Wi-Fi sharing can be done with standard QR codes, but I don't know if this OS-specific

- Tasker is different from Shortcuts, but a viable option. Very powerful, but more complex too

- I agree with the Duo point. It's a great service, but not well known. Google being Google I guess.

(To be clear, not disagreeing with you, just adding to the conversation)

CraftThatBlock··on How I helped fix Canadaʼs Covid Alert app

CraftThatBlock··on Silicon MacBook could launch on 27 October and cost $800
Yes, but silicon is a common word in tech.
CraftThatBlock··on Ask HN: Have you abandoned Next.js for another front end framework/library?
Laravel uses Blade for rendering, while Next uses React. They are roughly comparable.
CraftThatBlock··on Ask HN: Have you abandoned Next.js for another front end framework/library?
I don't think you understand the usage of Next if you think it will be dead in 2 years.

Application framework that gain good popularity stay alive for very long. Look at a lot of PHP frameworks for example.

Next will be alive in 5 years

CraftThatBlock··on Ask HN: Have you abandoned Next.js for another front end framework/library?
With large community support and coperate backing, I think Next is well setup for the long term (5-10 years). I can't think of any direct downsides, however Next does "force" you in a way of writing application, which I personally think is a good thing, since it provides standardization and structure to projects (for example, routing).

Next can still be very flexible, with things like catch-all routes, you could even add another router on top of Next. It also supports customizing the Webpack configuration if needed, but there's plugins for almost all cases that I have needed to use (PWA/service worker, CSS/Sass which is now built-in, etc).

I think Next is one of the safer option for new projects.

CraftThatBlock··on Ask HN: Have you abandoned Next.js for another front end framework/library?
Next has been improving very much recently, and would definitely be my number one choice for the vast majority of React projects. What is making you look for other solutions?
CraftThatBlock··on Google proposes user threads for Linux
Thanks, this was really helpful!
CraftThatBlock··on Google proposes user threads for Linux
Can someone explain this a bit more? Is this closer to say Goroutines for user space, with a light scheduler but handled by the kernel?
CraftThatBlock··on Small mail server best current practices
Any cheap paid services for this? I'm not comfortable with routing my emails through a free third-party.

CraftThatBlock··on Apple releases study defending App Store's 30% cut ahead of testimony
The "everyone does it" is true in console gaming though, so the argument actually could apply them. Apple is the only mobile platform that it doesn't do the same as others (Android)
CraftThatBlock··on Apple releases study defending App Store's 30% cut ahead of testimony
The "everyone does it too" argument quickly breaks down if there's no alternative for you platform. On Android, you can easily sideload others stores, on PC you can use Epic Store or one of many others, but iOS has no other options.
CraftThatBlock··on Patent No. 1 – July 31, 1790
The purpose of patent is to encourage innovation. If companies/individuals didn't have protection for their invention, why would they invest into R&D if their competitors could steal their idea/process?

It provides a middle-ground - the inventor has exclusive rights to the invention for a portion of time (20 years), where they can reap the benefits of the patent. Once it expires, anyone can use it.

CraftThatBlock··on Ask HN: What is the best enterprise software you use every day?
The only one that is different is Rider, since it has much deeper C# integration (might be others such as DataGrip, but never used it). PyCharm and GoLand are just plugins (same as WebStorm, PhpStorm, etc)
CraftThatBlock··on Ask HN: What is the best enterprise software you use every day?
Why use 3 different ones when IntelliJ can do all of the features of the listed editors? PyCharm is IntelliJ locked with Python plugin, etc.
