CommanderData··on London Is Building Its Own Vegas Sphere
Having moved from London to US SF. Residential buildings are very close, London is not spaced out from commercial settings like in the US.

> "Those who support it, however, say it could be an incredible opportunity for the area. And could transform this underdeveloped site into a thriving destination in itself."

Using the buzz-words in high profile planning applications: rejuvenating a under 'developed site'? We're talking about Stratford, houses London's BIGGEST shopping centre, it's not underdeveloped.

> "Developers of the Sphere offered to give residents closest to the structure black-out window blinds as a compromise. Somehow this didn’t appease them."

I can't imagine having a disco like effect of high powered LED lights whizzing past every few seconds some 50 or so meters away taller than most buildings.

Just so we can consume more ads? This should not be allowed. I'm with the residents on this one, I imagine will be appealing the application.

CommanderData··on Israel's Controversial Treatment of Ethiopian Immigrants: Forced Sterilization
"The Israeli military confirmed to the programme that the practice took place, but added: "This activity ended a decade ago and does not happen any longer." https://www.theguardian.com/world/2009/dec/21/israeli-pathol...

"He then claimed that bodies of Palestinians killed by Israeli security forces 'were returned with missing corneas and other organs, further confirming past reports about organ harvesting by the occupying power.'" https://www.timesofisrael.com/pa-claims-israel-harvesting-or...

Linking this to Jewry like you've done serves no purpose. We're talking about Israel here, that is an overused tired tactic to suppress discussion. I'm merely bringing this to light and like my original comment suggests and asks, the Ethiopian programme and organ harvesting are things which are known about.

CommanderData··on Israel's Controversial Treatment of Ethiopian Immigrants: Forced Sterilization
If this is what they're doing to people migrating. What experiments and horrors do they do on Palestinians?

I saw a comment and article on kidnapping / organ harvesting last week for which Israeli doctors admitted to. Reading the details left me disturbed me for a few days, was akin to something from Predator.

I genuinely have lost hope for humanity. There's a televised genocide in 2023 with hospitals, refugee camps and schools being bombed with western money.

Funded internet farms and YouTube adverts trying to advert discussion on this in their favour.

CommanderData··on YouTube may face criminal complaints in EU for using ad-block detection scripts
> Why do you pretend that you are entitled to free video storage and bandwidth from YouTube? You haven't been sleighted. That service costs money to provide.

Because Google has been monopolistic in their strategy to become the no.1 video platform and crushed alternatives.

This behaviour comes at a cost, pushing alternatives and now forcing adverts on everyone?

I can't do much to stop their monopolistic behavior but I can block adverts.

CommanderData··on Bangladesh saved lives by getting lead out of turmeric spice
Is there a way to ensure Tumeric you buy is from Bangladesh and not India?

What reliable at home tests would validate your spice? (Or lack thereof)

CommanderData··on Common cat-borne parasite is positively associated with frailty in older adults
Antibiotics?
CommanderData··on Ukrainian military officer coordinated Nord Stream pipeline attack
Wasn't mainstream media's consensus it was sabotage by Russia themselves?

No other narrative was allowed at the time in the UK.

CommanderData··on Toxic toddler fruit pouches: "high" lead levels sicken 7 in 5 states
Your comment is to receive downvotes purely because you mentioned a country with highly nationalistic members on these forums.

This should be a world wide issue that's tackled with the same urgency as a emerging disease. But it is not.

CommanderData··on Opium production in Afghanistan drops by 95%: UN report
America was complicit in it's production while in Afghanistan. https://www.theguardian.com/news/2018/jan/09/how-the-heroin-...
CommanderData··on How to stop adulterated turmeric from killing people
Considering a lot of our spice comes from India it's highly likely.
CommanderData··on How to stop adulterated turmeric from killing people
These people have little to no regard to human life when they're adding lead chromate to an international spice.

We all have likely eaten Turmeric in the last year alone it's added to many foods aside from curries i.e. processed snacks and as a filler for foods.

Capital punishment would be too good these folk.

CommanderData··on Reasons to fight cashless contagion
> anonymous payments

Surveillance most definitely will be a feature. We are talking about the UK government here.

CommanderData··on UK government accused of 'vandalism' over abolishing biometrics safeguards
The media Tory relationship is very understated.

The media is very much the reason most of the British electorate will still vote Conservatives, even after years of scandals.

CommanderData··on Common fungus candida albicans might fuel Alzheimer's onset
Gardasil does not help against HSV of any types. Only HPV.
CommanderData··on Former Google CEO Launched a Company with His Girlfriend. It's Not Going Well
I doubt that even touches the interest.

Often wonder if these former CEOs invest in/start health companies. I would love to try and accelerate research in a few niche fields that are underfunded.

What sort of isolation did you achieve with your Ruby experiments?
CommanderData··on Hamas' social media following has skyrocketed
or when the Army denies government and media stated incidents making people believe they were false flag operations to justify further destruction of a ethnic people.
CommanderData··on Anti-Anti-Adblocker uBlock filter to get rid of the annoying YouTube message
The happy ending here would be Google being less monopolist with video streaming.

Google has done an outstanding job to use their position making YouTube the streaming platform of the Web, GCP incentives, dominance in smart TV, Google account integration, Android etc. This isn't mentioned enough.

Now we're seeing a strategy towards Premium and anti ad blocking patterns while they remain top and any alternatives just can't get a footing in this space to compete.

CommanderData··on Google Cloud Spanner is now half the cost of Amazon DynamoDB
Can you give Azure specifics, as you know Azure has a massive offering.

My experience has been the opposite though not without issues, Azure has some of the best corporate and security features of any cloud and it's only getting better. The zero trust model fits in so nicely with their identity platforms it's a sight to behold compared to other cloud providers which likely use some form of AAD or AD DS anyway.

Their support is responsive and they seem to know what they're talking about. (AKS)

Please provide some specifics on your experience?

CommanderData··on Pixel 7 WiFi does not work in certain countries
Google TV 4K only supports 5Ghz WiFi on channels 36, 40, 44 or 48. Their well aware of the issue and haven't done anything to fix it since its release 2 years ago.

Discovered while helping a friend set his up. Most consumers don't know how to channel peg WiFi. Seems like a massive flaw, adjusting WiFi to suit one device?

Really does not inspire confidence spending money on any Google product.

CommanderData··on Ukraine Tricks Russia into Wasting Ammunition
How does a country with so many sanctions have the ability to do this?
CommanderData··on EU tells Apple to open everything up to its rivals
Ontop Google has made it impossible for YouTube competitors with it's dominance with device integrations not just mobile.

There's little point as a creator to post on a platform with zero reach.

CommanderData··on India fails to re-establish communication with its Moon probe
I respect HN for it's high commentary and why I avoid places like Reddit where possible. I admit, I should have made the comment of higher quality and provided sources, I was attempting to initiate discussion about the topic.

Understood and I appreciate the reminder.

CommanderData··on India fails to re-establish communication with its Moon probe
This was a covered by the Economic times as many others, I'm not sure how you'd class this as flamebait.

https://m.economictimes.com/news/new-updates/uk-aid-worth-2-...?

That's a very big stretch of your imagination as its a legitimate argument and discussion to be had. Perhaps not amongst ultra Indian nationalist for which HN has many and your comment makes me feel you may be catering towards.

CommanderData··on Hide job listings from companies you are not interested on LinkedIn
There's a notorious job agency in London that spams users inboxes in what I suspect is attempt with fake jobs in order to collect CVs. I don't think this is exclusive this particular agency but still pretty rare.

With the advent of GDPR it's a sketchy way of getting around rention laws or advertising for months to do more of the same.

LinkedIn needs a 'block this agency/company' feature but I think that would impact it's bottom line.

CommanderData··on Rumble rejects UK lawmakers' call to stop Russell Brand monetisation
The whole thing is bizzare. Brand, a high list celeb back in those days slept around with hundreds of women.

Not only that he was a drug addict for many years who did rehab. I doubt someone like him has a squeeky clean record but given the combination of things why is anyone surprised?

His allegations don't seem off with his personality and status take into context, he has said all of his interactions were concensual and the accuser says this too.

CommanderData··on The many vulnerabilities in SOHO and industrial wireless routers
I have churned through at least 5 routers now all with their own issues.

Until I got Linksys E8450, it's a WiFi 6 router and can NAT at 1gb on openwrt.

CommanderData··on The many vulnerabilities in SOHO and industrial wireless routers
Absolutely, anything which decreases the bottom line is bad business.

Legislation is needed to protect the consumer here, there are no other incentives.

CommanderData··on Seattle officer caught on cam laughing after collision that killed grad student
Why would you take the opportunity to associate it to incel culture?

He's a terrible excuse for a human being, let alone a police officer. Let's not distract people with blaming incels.

CommanderData··on Bitwarden login down due to Azure outage
When Bitwardens servers are inaccessible mobile and windows app continue to work just fine using a cached version.

In my case even sync new passwords once the seever/Internet comes back up.
