ChristianGeek··on When to Use TypeScript – A Detailed Guide Through Common Scenarios
Tests should be testing behavior, not implementation (this was the original intent of unit testing but it got sidetracked over time).
ChristianGeek··on When to Use TypeScript – A Detailed Guide Through Common Scenarios
Your DDD link is dead (so technically it’s a DDDD link :)
ChristianGeek··on Computer Graphics from Scratch (2017)
Which has just as many (if not more) trials and tribulations as the gaming industry.
ChristianGeek··on Ask HN: I will pay you $2000 and code the MVP for your side-project
For 80%.
ChristianGeek··on Music labels sue Charter, complain that high Internet speeds fuel piracy
Just as paved roads fuel smuggling.

ChristianGeek··on Show HN: Songcraft – Online Songwriting Platform and Guitar Tab Builder
You really need to clarify the pricing quickly. As it is now, if I signed up for the $4.95 offer and it got changed to $8.95 after three months I’d be pissed.
ChristianGeek··on Tesla Model Y
It also doesn’t include any of the autopilot features. Add $3,000 for the basics, $8,000 for full. And $4,000 for AWD. Oh, and $1,500 if you want anything but black. (All the same prices for the 3, but still something to consider.)
ChristianGeek··on Nginx to Be Acquired by F5 Networks
“Loose” is the opposite of “tight,” “lose” is the opposite of “find.” Easy to remember because the opposites have the same number of letters.
ChristianGeek··on People Who Eat the Same Meal Every Day
Mistaking boredom for peacefulness is like mistaking a placebo for a cure; if the net effect is what you’re going for, it doesn’t matter.
ChristianGeek··on Top books discussed on Stack Overflow and other Stack Exchange sites
“Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.”

- Rabbi Hyman Schachtel (1954)

ChristianGeek··on Ask HN: What made you change your mind about a programming language/paradigm?
The killer feature that vaulted Java to the top was cross-platform compatibility (regardless of the flaws), including AWT and Swing.

Source: Have been coding in Java since 1.0.

ChristianGeek··on Books I Recommend
In short, no. It is based on the experience of 3 former CIA officers and theories and methodology one of them has developed as a result.

This one also lets you look at Stack Overflow and Reddit mentions.
ChristianGeek··on Bookworm: A Simple, Focused eBook Reader
Calibre is fantastic for converting between eBook formats, but it’s a mediocre reader at best. (ITunes for eBooks is an apt description in this regard!)
ChristianGeek··on Satellite Harpoons Space Debris in Test
This is awesome...robotic space whaling! The next “Moby Dick” will be about the quest for the Black Knight.
ChristianGeek··on What Happened to the 100000 Hour LED Bulbs?
It’s dog hours, right?
ChristianGeek··on Gym Class Is So Bad, Kids Are Skipping School to Avoid It
Yep. I’m 57 and I still hate all forms of exercise thanks to my experience in gym class.

ChristianGeek··on How I negotiated a software-engineering job offer in Silicon Valley
Because a tiny apartment in the Bay Area is going to cost you as much as a McMansion in rural Kansas.
ChristianGeek··on Show HN: Leave Me Alone – A privacy focused email unsubscription service
I like the forwarding idea, not only because of privacy issues but also because I can easily forward emails from account types they don't support.
ChristianGeek··on Dbeaver – Multi-platform database tool
DataGrip is to DBeaver what IntelliJ is to Eclipse.
ChristianGeek··on Sequel Pro – Open source macOS native MySQL GUI client
Love DataGrip...was a big Sequel Pro fan until I started on a project with PostgreSQL and found DataGrip. Haven’t looked back. (I’m now using DataGrip for MySQL as well.)

It’s not the case in Southern California, either.
ChristianGeek··on The Best Programming Advice I Ever Got (2012)
You make someone above you with an ego look bad.
ChristianGeek··on What makes BeOS and Haiku unique
Same here. I still remember when I first booted it up and ran a demo app (video playing on all sides of a rotating cube), how much it put OS 9 to shame in terms of responsiveness and performance. I’m still pissed that Apple went with NeXTSTEP instead of BeOS for OS X, but I’m glad they went with something.
ChristianGeek··on The Second Edition of “Refactoring”
That (quoted) is a bubble statement if I’ve ever seen one.
ChristianGeek··on Japan Is Giving Away 8M Abandoned Houses
There are only 49 million homes in Japan according to Google. 8 million abandoned homes means that almost one in six homes are abandoned. Is that possible?!
