Cardeck1··on Ask HN: Invest in Adam
Ok.The initiave is not bad but what worries me is this: "I have so many ideas" + "while I work to get my ideas off the ground".

It's not about being a programmer or designer.I would invest in a non-tech guy without blinking if he would have a clear idea of what he wants to build and an infinite drive and dedication towards completing his goal.

Because those people can and will change the world. But you have nothing...no mission, no drive, no dedication..only many ideas which are average btw.So why would someone follow you? That's why PG said in an interview:

"He will not fail (referring to a guy from YC)because the project is his life" or something like that.

He knows that someone who is dedicated enough to one cause, will not fail or at least never give up.

Cardeck1··on Ask HN: Has anyone been fired for not wearing a suit and tie?
The best of the best will always be the exception to any rule in any industry. But the best of the best doesn't care if he gets fired because he will always come on top.So you are asking the wrong question.
Cardeck1··on 30 days after launching my side project
"who loves hacking to find solutions to different pains/demands in market" I like your enthusiasm and your mindset.Would you be interested in a little challenge?I would like to have a talk with you.I don't see your email but if you are interested send me a contact id on my mail address.Thank you.
Cardeck1··on You are not Steve Jobs
That's a huge mistake. It means your not a natural and talented CEO or whatever job you aspire to get.A true leader will set a certain path not because he saw it at someone else but because he feels it's the right way.And most importantly what he feels is usually right. That instinct that very few people have, something that cannot be learned.

And you know what?I strongly believe that if Steve Jobs would've tried to become a technical guy he would've ruined his talent.Maybe some will not understand what I am saying but I believe it is true.

Cardeck1··on Bitcoin Mining Hardware + Discussion
It is too late to buy ASICs now.Not only because people from batch #1 and #2 have a significant advantage but also because of the companies that already have a lot of hashing power.

In 6 months assuming the batches are released and some companies build their own massive mining centers, your ASIC will be useless...

Cardeck1··on HN: Help. Talented engineer lost his way
Are you in the same situation as the OP?
Cardeck1··on Ask HN: Is a Bitcoin ASIC miner a good investment for now?
Now that was the answer I was expecting.I was thinking the same thing but I wasn't sure.If you can get it now, you can be profitable but later on you are better off with buying BTC.Thanks.
Cardeck1··on Ask HN: Is a Bitcoin ASIC miner a good investment for now?
How come it is better to buy BTC?I mean it is trading at 180 right now.If I were to buy 15 BTC for example, I would have to pay 2700 while a good ASIC would mine 15 in a couple of days with a much higher value. Then again, maybe I don't understand it but that's how some of my friends do it.

Of course it is gonna be harder but I am talking about the next 2-3 months.

Cardeck1··on HN: Help. Talented engineer lost his way
Put an email in your profile or email me.Maybe I can help you with that depending on the situation.Thanks.
Cardeck1··on Ask HN: I'd like your opinion on my social network idea
When someone's calling you crazy, you are usually on the right track but you are facing some titans here with your idea.In order to beat those titans you have to give people something different than usual, something to WOW them.

Besides, you need a strategy in order to gain traction. But I am sure you can make money with an app like this.Maybe not 1 billion but hey, you can settle for less.Good luck with that.

Cardeck1··on How do you deal with a pessimistic co-founder?
Well are you dealing with this situation right now or you just want to know what happens in this case scenario?
Cardeck1··on Steve Jobs' first boss: 'Very few companies would hire Steve, even today'
I don't see the contradiction but my point is, if we want to see more steves we should improve the relationship between us and them even if we have the hard part of the startup.Which is almost always the case.

But hey, if you choose to be a programmer, you should do it because you really like it not because you make a lot of money. I can work 30h non stop on a project I like even if it's not mine, because I really like to build projects.

I don't want the exception to be the rule.It would be impossible after all. What I want is tech guys to risk more when it comes to non-technical people.

Btw, when you are smart and very talented you don't really need to get that technical.I already wrote about a non-technical guy I've worked with which had no technical background and no experience with startups that was able to build a product from his mind. I was shocked.I mean he didn't even know how to design it in photoshop. He was able to guide us through the building process almost perfectly. Now, of course he was reading a lot about everything but besides that he had no real technical background.

Should I say that guy was technical or non-technical?We probably see things differently.

We should return to our topic subject because we are entering the eternal debate and we will just ruin the topic.

Cardeck1··on Steve Jobs' first boss: 'Very few companies would hire Steve, even today'
I have to disagree here.Even though my perspective has changed, times have changed too. How?Look around. If you do not see it than I will stop here.

Steve Jobs was a non-technical guy. That's why there were so many debates about tech and non tech guys during these years. He acquired knowledge over time through various sources. He had everything on a plate. And you can be a complete outsider in a company. When you spend so much time in your industry, in your environment, you learn. But you couldn't say he was a programmer or engineer.

Saying that people are risking things on non-tech people's ideas every day is like saying people are driving a car every day.Of course they are.In this world there is a little bit of everything.Rich people, poor people, low jobs, high jobs etc. We are talking about the majority or current situation. And for the moment the situation is just how I described it.

If you think it is not true, post a project on HN as a non-technical guy and ask for someone to help you build your project.I am curious how many would help you.

That is just my personal opinion based on my observations and experiences.

Cardeck1··on Steve Jobs' first boss: 'Very few companies would hire Steve, even today'
Exactly.Wozniak had to be willing to go along on the ride. And he did it.Did he ever create a scandal or, I don't know, fight for glory with Jobs? No.He was always a humble guy and got the work done.No drama or anything. And he was well repaid.

We have plenty of young talented people in this world. But I already stated the problem in my initial post.

Cardeck1··on Steve Jobs' first boss: 'Very few companies would hire Steve, even today'
The sad, harsh reality is, no one would hire Steve Jobs today or almost no one. Why?Because times have changed (In a bad way).We live in a world full of arrogance, stupidity and ignorance. We no longer think how to change the world but how to make a lot of money.

Steve Jobs was a non-technical guy.We have 1 million topics on HN bashing these guys for 1 million reasons.Even on this one we have engineers talking about the same thing over and over.

How about being realistic at least once. We do not give these people any chance of working with us.Because we are so arrogant these days that we think the world belong to us and only we (programmers/engineers) can change it.

We cannot find a Steve Jobs when we are not willing to risk at all.How many of you helped a non-technical guy building a project without asking for a huge amount of money or 100% equity?Probably not many. Most of the help consists of telling the guy to find a cofounder or to quit the project. Not one programmer/engineer would say "hey you know what, you're crazy but I'll help you" or any other similar line.

The truth is we do not own the world and we are not all-knowing. We can be all-star programmers and yet have crap ideas.Nothing is set in stone.Someone out there is always better than you.And history shows us that small things count. Unbelievable things come from unexpected places.

I am not saying that every non-technical guy is a Steve Jobs because I had my own failures with these guys and yes, it's incredibly frustrating. But those were bad selections.A risk I was willing to take.I helped a non-technical guy with a startup 4 years ago.He had a weird idea and he asked me to help him in exchange for a fixed sum of 350K. He came to me with a damn paper and pen to talk about his idea. He had no money to hire a programmer only an ambition that could move mountains. And after 6 months I received the money in my account...the startup was a success...and that's when I changed my mentality.

So in conclusion, if we want to see a Steve Jobs, we have to take risks.Otherwise let's continue flipping the coin and wait for it.

Cardeck1··on Ask HN: Does it feel good to be smart?
I totally agree with the last statement. And I (not so) often seen people that have nothing to do with a domain yet they excelled in it.I had one marketing guy who helped us with hardware design without having an engineering or any technical degree whatsoever. He just knew how-what-where to do by looking at it.Human mind is amazing.
Cardeck1··on I'm a loser and I want to change that - now
I like this:)Good motivational/inspirational post for everyone.
Cardeck1··on Startups Anonymous
How about we join forces bobby? We are both trying to help people, you more on the business side/me also taking care of the more personal side.I believe we can help more people this way.Email in the profile. In any case, good to see others help too.
Cardeck1··on Ask HN: Just Quit my job, what now?
mythriel still no mail in your profile
Cardeck1··on Ask HN: You're the smartest people I know. I am struggling and need advice.
a mail on your profile would be good if you want some help...
Cardeck1··on I Resent My Cofounder
If you need a 3rd party to give you feedback, analyze the situation and solve your problem I might know someone who can help you although he is rather helping high profile startups.Leave a mail on your profile if you want some help anyway.
Cardeck1··on For HN: Hacker's Help Network
Thank you very much but I think you got the idea somehow wrong. We want to support hackers that can be helped without the aid of the doctor. You can imagine that we could never put someone's life at risk if he has a serious condition.

For those who are really on the verge of distruction, the best we can do is send them to a specialized doctor because only they can help the serious cases.

What we can do is create an environment for us that would help avoid a situation like this and also to help those that can be helped without the aid of a doctor.Even then the situation must be analyzed properly.

But the most important thing is, everyone wants to have a place where they can talk to the others, share their thoughts, everything that bothers them from any aspect of their lives, from business to life and so on.Because then, you know where to go when you have problems.

It will be like "Damn, my gf dumped me and my friend kicked me out of the startup, I definitely need to talk to someone who can understand this, how about i go on xyz website or (whatever place we can create for them) and talk about this, cause they will listen".

So not to be confused with a clinic or some medical/mental facility. We cannot do that. But we can try to create a place for us, sharing whatever we want to share.

Thank you again.

And like i said, for anyone who wants to be part of a united group and helping each other whenever you need, join us by sending a mail to

hackershelp2013@gmail.com and Hacker's Help Network (community on google+) one is private (mainly for HN users) and one is public

Cardeck1··on The hypocrisy in Silicon Valley's big talk on innovation
I agree with the article.True innovation is hard to find.Look at the startups promoted by incubators. Most of them are some sort of apps.We definitely need pure innovation, something so different, that will change all our lives.

And you can see here the difference between an idea-man and an innovator.Because in my opinion an idea-man can have good ideas and make some money out of them but an innovator will have brilliant ideas, passion to build something extraordinary, smart, without money being the first priority. His goal is to change the world. Now that is someone I would like to work with, not the typical I-have-an-idea-you-build-it-and-I-will-come-later-to-see-whatsup.

Cardeck1··on Amazon stops selling Sim City V over game issues
No, it actually doesn't sound like some random MBAs.Are you one of those guys that blame MBAs for everything? The truth is we don't know what actually happened there. We'll have to wait for EA's reply on this one.It will be hard for them to recover after a huge mistake/strategy like this.
Cardeck1··on Ask HN: Just Quit my job, what now?
How about an email in your profile so people can contact you?
Cardeck1··on Ask HN: Is 25 too late to become a proficient developer?
Even if the whole world is against you...continue.
Cardeck1··on The Fall of Academics at Harvard
Cheating is a complex subject to speak of, especially in US. Let me share my experience with some of these cheaters.I would like to point out that I do not admire them nor I take their side, yet I am trying to understand the problem and find some reasoning behind these actions.

Everyone thinks you are stupid or evil if you cheat yet it has a deeper meaning here.We have to ask ourselves, why would someone cheat?Does it matter if it's Harvard or Stanford? No, it doesn't.The reasons are usually the same wherever you go.

The first one I can think of is Lack of Interest. The student simply doesn't give a about a certain course, and he knows he will never use it after graduation so he decides to cheat on the exam.Cheating himself? No, because he doesn't like that course at all and he will not use it in the future, so why wasting his time.No benefits, nothing coming out of this course.

An example would be the GE in the first 2 years of college.I believe it's a waste of time and money. That's why other countries don't use it.

The second one is Lack of Enthusiasm. Maybe the student doesn't like the professor or the way he teaches.Maybe he knows more than the professor.Maybe he needs something extra.Who knows...But surely this can lead to cheating as well, although this would definitely impact your future if the course is connected with your job aspirations.

The third one is No Social Life/Seeking Popularity among certain groups. Some students think that by cheating they can get in some fraternities or joining famous campus groups or getting the "girl next door" etc. A shortcut to something which they cannot obtain through other means. You don't see a movie where cheating is not cool, do you?Look at some of the commercials.Nothing negative about cheating.

Forth would be the so called "corporate mindset".They look at some billionaire stories and unethical companies that make a lot of money through schemes and cheating.I mean look at the Wall Street movies.I don't think there is one movie where characters make money by being ethical. So students think that's cool.Heck, they even drop college thinking they can become a SJ or BG.There is no other way...

I think I'll stop here but there are many more.Should we consider all of them stupid?Well, not really. The truth is the world today is not the same as the one 10-20 years ago.And yes, companies don't play fair. How can you encourage someone to be ethical when most of the top 500 companies are on the other side of the spectrum.

How can you survive as a business if most of the competition is cheating in some way?You cannot.

Let's take an example here:

Student A = Cheating/Unethical Student B = Studying/Ethical

A gets a 4.0 GPA by cheating through college.* B gets a 3.5 by playing it fair.

*Assuming Student A is not retarded or anything and he cheats when he needs to, not to the point where he couldn't bring any value to a company after graduating.

Who will get the job at a top company? Probably A because if a 4.0 is a requirement, the recruiter will completely ignore B.Can you blame the recruiter? Not really. It's impossible to ask 1000 people if they cheated or not and so on. Not fair for the hard-working student.

That's just my 2 cents.Sorry for my bad writing.

Cardeck1··on The Glass Bicycle
You are right. No phone has that but you can see a light in the prism on Glass when the device is recording. I am sure they can add zoom capabilities to the device.

The point is that no matter what alert signals you get, you can't just beat/accuse someone just because he is recording. It's a two-way street.

We will see.

Cardeck1··on The Glass Bicycle
There is a red light glowing when the camera is on. But what happens when you have 10 people with Glass? How will you stop everyone from recording? And 10 is a small number in a fast-paced environment like NYC.

What happens when someone zooms in on sensitive data in a company or home or anywhere you can think of.

The more Glasses you have, the less control you get.

Cardeck1··on The Glass Bicycle
Well yes, but 95% of those people are buying those small cameras for a specific task (surveillance) and you still have to attach it to a device to make it work but the majority of people will buy Glass because it's cool and innovative thus "stalking" becomes an available option, "just in case" you want to do it.Temptation wins...
