This isn't hypothetical, the CPU mined coins aren't close to profitable with web services. And the people making profitable ASICs are using them rather than selling them because it's intrinsically more profitable.

It's odd when people say "my computer is a decade old and I've only had to replace every single part multiple times over look at how green I'm being". It's the exact same thing as buying a new computer a couple times, just in smaller increments and with parts that are less likely to be recycled on their own.
Yes, it is called "burdensome". It very well may be ruled too burdensome for them to unlock one specific phone, let alone all the others that have piled up. That is where the case was as of a couple days ago, with apple being asked by the court whether the request would be too unreasonably burdensome for them to comply.
I imagine it would be better for maintenance to use the seawater to cool the coolant itself, that way they aren't pumping salt into their datacenter.
I'm sure the nearby villages, where there is very little otherwise accessible employment, are glad that they were replaced by robots.
To be clear though I don't think that's the reason loudness isn't enforced. I imagine it more has to do with the fact that they aren't watching for it since they don't have any way to easily test it like speed.
It's easy for nvidia users to see these practices as okay because they are only hurting other people, but given a new generation of cards these measures will be leveled against them too until they upgrade. Nvidia has no qualms about fucking over their own customers so long as it fucks over amd customers more.
