You can replace the ssd on that MacBook. It won’t be cheap, but storage that fast isn’t anyways. I have the 1tb ssd from a MacBook in my windows desktop
Caprinicus··on Martin Shkreli is found guilty of securities fraud

It's not clear that he would consider that a mistake

People in general don't care about efficiency, and it's not even irrational. Transportation planning tends to treat people as little AI zergs that are going to take the most collectively efficient route to their individual destination. It's best to have a system that's as agnostic to how people want to get where they're going as possible, but I have no idea whether tesla's idea is good.

Caprinicus··on Former Apple engineer: Tim Cook made Apple a 'boring operations company'
It matters because people writing angry blog posts because apple leaves someone out has happened at every iteration of every apple product ever.

Apple removing the firewire port was the end of the world.

You're right that it's much less water, but euro countries are still choosing to accelerate the situation. Migrants will float their boat up to anything that looks european, sink themselves, because they are often required to bring them onboard and take them to europe, even if they're barely off the coast of wherever they came from.

Even if you want all the migrants you can get, it's a terrible plan because they often accidentally sink themselves near vessels that can't take them onboard and drown, or leave in vessels that aren't seaworthy because they think they'll get picked up, and when they don't they drown.

Caprinicus··on Reddit CEO admits to altering user comments that were critical of him
He's almost certainly still the asshole he was then, but there's a pretty large gap between abusing access to a website you run in college and abusing access to a website you're payed to be the CEO of in your 30s.
Caprinicus··on New MacBook Pro Is Not a Laptop for Developers Anymore
The reality is that apple has been pretty much universally right whenever they ditch something "way too soon". There's never been a moment when a year down the line apple realized "wait, this USB thing is never going to catch on, go back to the old ports we were wrong!"
Caprinicus··on New MacBook Pro Is Not a Laptop for Developers Anymore
If you're constantly using one or two function keys, it's fairly common to do it by memory. For example I can hit the volume and brightness buttons and f5 without looking. But really, all the other functions that will become available with the touch bar will more than make up for the time lost looking down.
Caprinicus··on New MacBook Pro Is Not a Laptop for Developers Anymore
It's probably closer to 90% as another person notes, with far greater power efficiency. If that's not enough, feel free to complain to intel or alternatively, the laws of physics

If you expected shit to shrink linearly over time, our transistors would be occupying negative space right now. If you expected clocks to increase linearly, we'd need liquid nitrogen and shit would be full on behaving like waves. That is the reality until we leave silicon land.

Caprinicus··on New MacBook Pro Is Not a Laptop for Developers Anymore
It's really odd when people say "I need one function key for some application specific operation", when those kinds of things are pretty much exactly what an adaptable, customizable touch row is perfect for. If apple could have read the touch bar complaints before, they probably would have been convinced to put a touch bar in earlier.

There were a fuckton of people who thought heavier than air flight was not possible until it was done. Not sure how they reconciled birds, but that was a common opinion even among scientists at the time

Caprinicus··on Electric vehicle battery costs rapidly declining, Tesla cited as leading
It's like when apple got to 7+ hours with battery life, their laptops started getting drastically smaller instead of continuing to have longer lasting batteries. I'd like to have a 400 mile tesla, but I'd like to have a tesla that doesn't weigh 40 tons first.
Caprinicus··on Tesla’s bioweapon mode is a stroke of genius for developing markets
The good thing about developed markets is that they generally don't get hit with bioweapons
Caprinicus··on Snowden’s Rubik’s Cube
It isn't even confirmed that he killed himself, let alone by apple. He was using potassium cyanide to electroplate spoons and could have died by inhaling the fumes. The apple was not even tested for cyanide. I'm glad that they at least omitted that because we genuinely have no idea what happened.
Caprinicus··on Inside Pascal: Nvidia 's Newest Computing Platform
People bought 400 series cards for their compute performance long after they were outdated. If your software wants an nvidia card it was either that or go up to quadro. People bought the first titan for the same reason.

Caprinicus··on MacBook gets a Skylake speed boost, 8GB of memory, longer battery life
It's almost purely a function of CPU usage especially if you have an SSD.

I don't think the mac power usage thing takes into account GPU usage but for that you'd probably want to download something third party to check the watt usage itself.

Caprinicus··on The new Ford, a Silicon Valley software company
>Focus RS they've just released shows some impressive work put into even a lower-end car (particularly I'm thinking of the way they handle power delivery to the rear wheels in tight corners.)

That sort of system, while important, is not particularly complicated or advanced though. The tech been employed in various forms for over a decade, I don't see the software implementation as evidence of competency within ford.
