they're not lying. Loopring is one example among half a dozen. The issue is that current L2's are purpose-built by individual dapps. What doesn't currently exist (should be released in next few months) is the code that lets you copy/paste your current L1 code into an L2 code with almost no effort. At that point all the current dapps running on L1 can just port over to L2 very quickly and without the huge risk of a bug in a ton of new code lines.

Because right now Bitcoin can only do currency, whereas Ethereum (and some other crypto's) can do anything a computer can do, since they are turing complete.

Granted there are projects on Bitcoin, like rootstock, that have the goal of adding the capability, but my personal take (and I think a lot of others) from being in the space many years, is that its unlikely these will ever get released and/or adpoted.

“For profit US corporation fighting foreign government atrocities”

I think that's a bit of an unfair phrasing. How about "Good people upholding their morals instead of dropping them at the door when they go to work"

I really am not a fan of how far we've taken the general image that 'business is business' and a bunch of regular morals are OK to toss out. We should preserve the social stigma we hold against people equally against companies.

ButtSpark69··on Psilocybin 'promising' for depression
"If you told me even 2 years ago there would be a randomised trial of magic mushrooms in NEJM, I would not have believed it for even a second."

In a lot of ways, that's completely depressing for how slowly we've come as a species.

ButtSpark69··on Bitcoin is a ‘boon for surveillance’, says former CIA director
"Monero is probably the best but still doesn't provide any math based garuntees,"

Can you elaborate on why you say this and what you mean by it? From what i've seen no entities, including governments, have been able to crack Monero's privacy, so i'm pretty interested if there's an obvious flaw.

ButtSpark69··on New algorithm breaks speed limit for solving linear equations
Interesting, I just took it at face value. I wonder what the % split is.
ButtSpark69··on Warren Buffett's bet against hedge funds at the Long Now Foundation (2008-17)
"I would call that sufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis that the returns are normally distributed, which is to say it's not luck."

How exactly do you make the jump from returns not being normally distributed, to that meaning beyond doubt that luck isn't involved?

The real mona lisa has massive real-world value. You can get a copy of the mona lisa that the average person can't distinguish between for $10.99, and yet that copy in no way reduces the value of the real mona lisa (if anything it increases it).

Things that are intentionally non-fungible don't care much about being copied, as long as you can always identify a copy, at the end of the day it's mostly a status game. But status games do have real-world value.

ButtSpark69··on Parler drops offline after Amazon pulls support
>Why is "you cannot incite violent terrorism" suddenly controversial?

When it takes pages to describe why something is inciting violence, and the result is huge numbers of people arguing it both was and wasn't inciting violence - including very, very intelligent people on both sides - then maybe it's not as cut and dry as you make it out to be. Or is everyone who disagrees with you either disingenuous or stupid?

You could make a decent argument that twitter and the other social giants have more real power than most countries' governments on this planet. The whole reason we think governments shouldn't censer speech is specifically because they are so powerful, and while you may like who's in power today, good luck trying to keep it that way.

Care to give some examples? I use eth on a regular basis for ~3yrs now and have never encountered any updates that broke basic functionality, or any updates at all for that mater that weren't broadcasted for months ahead of time.

Are you perhaps referring to some specific dapp built on Eth that you don't like?
