I'm not criticizing Linus, I'm just reflecting on the global cultural climate that's encouraging this. And it's getting hotter by the second.
Stereoscopic vision in humans only works for nearby objects. The divergence for far away objects is not sufficient for this. You may think you can tell something is 50 or 55 meters away through stereoscopic vision, but you can't. That's your brain estimating based on effectively a single image.
That said reality is not a single image, it's a moving image, a video. Monocular video can still be used to estimate object distance in motion.
Eventually AI will be good enough to work better than humans with just a camera. The problem is we're not there yet, and what Tesla is doing is irresponsible. They should've added LIDAR and used that to train their camera-only models, until they're ready to take over.
VR/AR has wow factor, but you quickly get used to it, and then your concerns are mostly pragmatic: the headset is huge, the battery life short and so on.
Although AR at least has pass through, which is a big benefit, as it doesn't completely hide your real surroundings.
We can call it "iPhone"
Yeah, I'll keep my monitors, mouse and keyboard, and my smartphone, thanks.
It's hilarious and sad to watch. He has no clue what's he doing.
It's very simple. Take everything that you see potential in, obvious or non-obvious and do research. That research will show if it's done or not done.
This is what happens when you're surrounded by yes-men non-stop for like a decade and they tell you that you're awesome at everything you do. You start drinking your own Kool-Aid.
This argument is akin you "no matter what you'll do you'll die, so no point getting out of bed".
But the generalization from this anecdotal example to broad conclusions is of course BS. We know nothing about this German coder, what they specialized in for 19 years, and how good they are. Meanwhile, being young and Pakistani also doesn't imply you eat grass and make grunting noises.
There are many bright young programmers, and youth does help with productivity and adaptation to new tech (like AI).
Did you know in Japan there are food vending stands which is just.. racks of food with price on them, and a little piggy bank you drop money in? It's entirely honor based. And it works. Because in Japan this is the optimal solution.
In Chicago this would be a hilariously bad solution.
1. Twitter is collapsing, I wouldn't invest in the account, but of course do look-up people you like and want to connect to and engage with them and seek contacts off Twitter.
2. Everyone is super-allergic to "threads" and giveaways at this point. They scream "hustler trying to meet a quota through low-quality BS that I can safely skip".
Keep it natural. Threads f**king suck. If you want to continue your thought in 2-3 tweets organically, sure! Or write a long tweet if you made the mistake of being a Blue subscriber. But otherwise: make a blog post, or a video about it. No one likes threads.
It's no surprise that when you make virtually all mainstream programming languages OOP, then there will be a vast amount of bad OOP code out there (as by definition mainstream code then becomes "OOP code").
PS: Please don't gimme the sweatshop talking point, that's BS propaganda for an outsourcing partner that powers literally most of Fortune 500, yet somehow it's always Apple's fault.
