BugWatch··on Amazon documents reveal company’s strategy to dodge India’s regulators
That, and the inter-cultural differences are certainly a large stumbling block.
BugWatch··on Why did I leave Google or, why did I stay so long?
Maybe others could consider growing "thicker skins", not applying their personal standard to everyone equally, and not getting offended at every single (and/or little) opportunity. Exposure therapy is a wonderful thing.
BugWatch··on Why did I leave Google or, why did I stay so long?
I guess you probably heard that classic joke that the (project) manager is the person who thinks that a baby can be produced and delivered in a single month given nine women to do it.
BugWatch··on Why did I leave Google or, why did I stay so long?
Simple question - is there (some kind/means of (extra)) payment involved?

If the answer is no, then that's a resounding no (for me, at least). I might love and adore my job (and the workplace), but no way in hell will it be allowed to impinge on my private/personal time: sleeping and "regular" work already essentially takes 2/3 of it (too much), and that doesn't even include the time for "context shifting" (mental and physical) between those and the remainder that is "(free) living".

And if (the hypothetical) you considers that to be "entitled", then so be it. Your life's mission is not my mission. I am there to do my work and do it conscientiously; anything more is asking too much.

BugWatch··on Kanban board in one HTML using localstorage
Have you considered a self-editing file approach a la Tiddlywiki Classic, in lieu of browser storage?
BugWatch··on Changes to LastPass Free
KeePass is extensible. IIRC, with addon(s), your encrypted DB file can be stored on your Google drive, or even your own (or company's) server.
BugWatch··on NASA's Perseverance rover will attempt to land on Mars this week
Oh, in Spirit's/Opportunity's case, that was 90 days (if memory serves me). So, they were successful beyond the wildest dreams. Curiosity, too.
BugWatch··on Ask HN: What are the best websites that the Anglosphere doesn't know about?
Try mentioning it on reddit.com/r/DataHoarder, someone might be interested.
BugWatch··on What Do You Agree to When You Accept All Cookies
Open Tumblr.

Choose not to accept / options.

You'll be faced with 330+ individual agree/disagree toggles. THERE IS NO REJECT ALL BUTTON. If you're not technically inclined, you have to manually click them all.

You also have to choose block/remove consent (or whatever it is called) for similar crap hidden under the "Legitimate uses" category moniker. Same shit.

For this, and similar idiotic dark patters, there's a Firefox addon called "Unchecker".

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/unchecker/

That, is, of course, until they start using buttons (some already do), double negatives in the wording or some such crap.

BugWatch··on Show HN: Pep – Turn your site into a fast, installable Progressive Web App (PWA)
I have only given it cursory look thus far, but I would certainly like to thank you for including what seems a decently functional free tier (IMO).
BugWatch··on Vivaldi 3.6 Introduces Two-Level Tab Stacks
Crazy Browser, IE browser shell I used 20 years ago, had this same capability (actually, "more powerful", since it was not limited to two).

If I were them, frankly I'd be ashamed a bit (or a lot) of bragging about it in 2020.... but that's just me, I guess.

(Nowdays [more like many a year], a Firefox user with even heavier TreeStyleTab addiction. Now, if only Mozilla would finally get its session API in order...)

BugWatch··on Ask HN: Anyone know any funny programming jokes?
Alternative Answer: None, they'll just google-graveyard the electricity service.
BugWatch··on Have we already been visited by aliens?
TMK very little of its effects are strictly new: almost all are digitally re-composited, color-corrected and slightly enhanced high-resolution scans of the original film footage (which used physical models and optical effects), since they were still available. IIRC, planets - as seen from space - are a notable exception (and better for it). It was a major remastering process, with beautiful results. (Although major, remastering cost less (for the whole series) than a single episode of the (IMO) abomination called "Discovery".)

Sadly, such an approach is impossible for the majority parts of the latter series (DS9, VOY) since their effects were mostly CGI, and rendered directly to standard definition video. Further more, many of the 3D models and scenes have been lost, so it would probably require a total effects re-do from scratch (on top of film stock scans), which is "a very costly proposition with questionable (financial) returns".

BugWatch··on Producer of Netflix Three body problem found poisoned
Considering the utter hack job and the travesty that was the last season (and a half?) of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss really are not any kind of a selling point for me personally. I'm still incredulous it got made and released in such state. So, frankly, it's quite the opposite. What's the visual equivalent of "not touching something with a 3.048 meter pole"? "Not observing a thing with a fiber-optic cable"?

I jest, sure, but that bitter mental taste in my brain still remains.

BugWatch··on Post Mortem of Google Outage on 14 December 2020
Thank you! This worked in my case.
BugWatch··on Post Mortem of Google Outage on 14 December 2020
I am having the same difficulties, and it's giving me a headache. The only workaround was to change the authentication method to "Normal password", and enable the "Allow less secure apps" setting on the Gmail account.

And that's a major PITA since I have 40-ish Gmail accounts. (Why so many? I tend to separate my different concerns for privacy and security reasons.)

BugWatch··on The Zen of Index.html
Reminds me of TiddlyWiki Classic [0], a self-editable single html file that I still use for note taking, and as a personal knowledge base. I change its extension from html to hta, so it pretty much runs as a Windows application.

There's the modern HTML5 version [1], but AI could never get into it (with its huge and atrocious UI). And, from what I can tell, plugin scene never quite developed for it anyway, compared to the Classic.

BugWatch··on Google outage – resolved
I am still experiencing this problem on all my synced-to-Thunderbird Gmail accounts, so it either hasn't been completely fixed yet, or there's another ongoing issue.

Well, actually... https://youtu.be/MyO2k-jApng

This is the first instance I ran into a decade ago.

BugWatch··on Gallery-dl – download images from several image hosting sites
Hm, I couldn't find the list of supported sites. Is Pinterest covered? Or does anyone know of similar working tools that would work for Pinterest? As a means of "backup" and/or sync with Pinry.
BugWatch··on Gallery-dl – download images from several image hosting sites
I don't know of any solutions, but would like to add that I am interested in one as well.
BugWatch··on Intermittent fasting from dawn to sunset induces anticancer response
Well, to be frank, he did say farting was 24/7 - and not intermittent.
BugWatch··on Ask HN: Talked about my fave cereals now I see ads for the exact cereals. How?
I wonder if anyone has made an implementation of this as a low-cost indoor positioning system for a smart home. Maybe with some simple beacons transmitting at a certain frequency, and the phone receiving, processing that and updating its estimated location to a home server. It probably wouldn't be precise enough for a definite location (and room-precision is usually enough), but coupled with other approaches...

__________ = The frequency range would probably have to be pet-safe, since dogs and cats can hear way higher frequencies that we can't.

BugWatch··on When You Get into Unschooling, It’s Almost Like a Religion
Would you mind revealing your brother's nom de plume (assuming he writes under one)?
BugWatch··on Trapped in his body for 12 years, a man breaks free (2015)
It's possible the previous commenter's "coAst" got autocorrected to "cost".
BugWatch··on Go’s Major Versioning Sucks – From a Fanboy
Well, misreading the title as "God's" and clicking the link left me feeling somewhat disappointed.
BugWatch··on Mozilla’s Uncertain Future
I have to disagree. In my case, bookmarks are the place where "tabs" go to die. I use Tree Style Tab addon, and tabs (mostly self-)organize as I surf, do research on different topics and whatnot, and I jump in with a window title changing addon or grouping parent tab. I cannot even imagine using a browser without it. But bookmarks do not preserve any of that relational data. Session managers are also luckluster solution at best, because merging a few tabs, a tree or window with existing session is clunky at best. After many years of frustration, I have started working on my own tab syncher/organizer.

Bookmarks are only the coldest of storage for me, with exception of bookmarks bar where I place often accessed web sites.

BugWatch··on Show HN: Breathe – Peripheral Breath Trainer
There is minimal color, yes, but I suppose one's brain will learn to "fake it" once it figures out size-color correlation during those times you're paying it direct attention.
BugWatch··on Digikam 7.0: Open-source photo management
Sadly, even at version 7.0, it (Digikam) still doesn't support virtual albums/collections, and it insists on direct album-file_system_directory correlation. Unfortunently, it is useless to me as an image/photo organizer. (I don't really see tags as a substitute).
BugWatch··on Show HN: Tablist – a chrome extension to copy and paste lists of open tabs
Thank you for your extension; I'm a user and it really helps me find the tab in my Firefox "window-forest".

I'm a heavy Tree Style Tab user, though, and tree-state isn't reflected in your addon. Would you consider implementing the support (and maybe easy JSON export of the generated list)?

In any case, thanks for your efforts.
