Breefield··on Show HN: Subform, a UI layout tool
They already raised 112k on Kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/298226251/subform-a-mod...

Note: I wish the kickstarter video was on the website linked here. The video is very compelling.

Breefield··on Ask HN: Are there any good online communities for macOS devs?
Isn’t the Mac dev forum protected by a pay wall?
Breefield··on Survival Research Laboratories: Inconsiderate fantasies of negative acceleration
Very real, the artist lives and works in Petaluma CA.

Breefield··on Non-Consensual Intimate Image Pilot
Am I the only person reading this who thinks it won't work at all...? All it takes is the image being sent via screenshot, or otherwise manipulated to change the hash
Breefield··on What Is Ethereum?
Wow this is awesome!
Breefield··on What Is Ethereum?
Shoot! Explainer site missed the target. I wrote the "average person" page to be quite high level. Unfortunately the "nerdy" page became a little too nerdy.

I should work on an "I'm a software developer who wants an intermediate technical understanding" or something like this.

Breefield··on What Is Ethereum?
Be my guest: http://github.com/Breefield/whatthefuckisethereum It's supposed to be a combination of layman information, reference material, and humor, I agree some of the content was rushed.
Breefield··on What Is Ethereum?
I wasn't aware of Sokal. I'm going to include this concept on the "scammer" page.
Breefield··on What Is Ethereum?
I made this website. I don't know the answer to your question. If you cruise down to "The Solc Compiler" on this page https://www.ethereum.org/greeter#cleaning-up-after-yourself, it seems you could potentially use other compilers to generate a Application Binary Interface.
Breefield··on Kill sticky headers (2013)
Is this being reposted as satire? Mcdiarmid.org has a sticky header on mobile in 2017...
Breefield··on Algorithmic accountability
TTW I asked Eric Schmidt if he had seen Gattaca: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXk8MJGHaEg

For context, he was talking about letting algorithms run wild on our genome to reduce risk of health problems and genetic disease, then using CRISPR to reintroduce these benefits into our genes.

I ultimately wish I had asked the question more directly, but I feel like the response was ultimately "we won't do that because society won't let us", when what I wanted to hear was "one would need to be incredibly mindful about ethical dilemmas surrounding the proxy of algorithms tell us what's best for us".

Breefield··on I’d Pay You $500k a Year, but You Can’t Do the Work
> I'd say the main thing to offer people choosing between Google and you is leadership opportunities.

Agreed!

Breefield··on First they came for the Iranians
This is the strength we need. Respect.
Breefield··on Porous, 3D forms of graphene can be 10 times as strong as steel but much lighter
Title is very click-bait. The MIT News article it links to is much more informative: http://news.mit.edu/2017/3-d-graphene-strongest-lightest-mat...
Breefield··on Ask HN: If you were to switch career, what would you do?
Same. I'm a software engineer who's been going down the metal fab/welder pathway for the last 1.5 years. It's highly rewarding, but also the overhead continues to grow and grow. Probably because the scale continues to grow as well.

I need to be happy making small physical things instead of huge physical things... http://www.breefield.com/projects/prodigal-swan

I've also looked into the timeline involved in becoming a PE. Not only do you have to take 6 years of school but you have to work under a PE for 2 years to become one. The pay doesn't seem to justify that much training (considering my anecdotal interest in the field).

Call me new-school, but I continue to enjoy working on systems that can't kill or maim people.

Breefield··on Sweden’s Unique Defense Against Russian Submarines
I feel like I just read an Onion article.

Breefield··on CS188 Intro to AI – Course Materials
Thanks for the encouragement, you're right, just gotta have the grit.
Breefield··on CS188 Intro to AI – Course Materials
This is an awesome resource, and exactly what I've been wanting!

I've been thinking about AI a lot lately, but I skipped college and went straight into startups, so all my knowledge on the subject is from reading less focused materials. Reminds me of Stanford's iOS dev resources from 4-5 years ago.

[EDIT] oh god math, why can I program but I can't math unless it's trigonometry or vectors/calculus, visually applied math makes sense, otherwise I'm so lost.

Breefield··on Let's Write Some Bad Ruby
lol I know right, just enough knowledge to be dangerous...

that may come off as mean/rude towards the author, but I don't mean it so. I do shit like this all the time because I don't know every little trick with the languages/frameworks I'm using, it's impossible to know it all unfortunately.

Breefield··on IPFS Pics
[edit] derp I am dumb, was not familiar with https://ipfs.io/ this explains my questions
Breefield··on Apple Introduces the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus
Still no SD card slot?

So fucking irritating that more/less the primary way Apple does price differentiation for their product models is by locking you in at storage capacity sizes.

My life is a hell of iCloud + Dropbox backups & constantly deleting all media so I can keep all of 40 apps on my 16GB iPhone.

Breefield··on Even – Get your average pay, every payday
Put on your product designer hat for just one second.
Breefield··on Ask HN: Isn't networking usually a waste of time?
Find a balance. You don't have to go to every single event, it's just a scene. Show face, get to know names. It helps, but it's not necessarily because those people you're meeting will individually make or break your journey, but because collectively it's great to have support.

Personally I find support through my non-startup friends as well, but sometimes they will become sick of hearing about startups swings.

Breefield··on ‘Braid’ creator sacrifices his fortune to build his next game
Very stoked on The Witness but also Firewatch: www.firewatchgame.com

These are the kind of games I can get down with, a good slow ambiance based puzzle game—had enough of RTS and FPS for the time being.

Breefield··on Wit.ai (YC W14) Is Joining Facebook
Was just telling a non-tech friend about Wit. Try, explaining NLP and classifiers to someone who isn't quite sure what dictation is, made for a quick ride up the chair lift at Kirkwood.
