Now that's an interesting take. Gives "old continent" a whole new meaning ...
Bluestein··on The punched card tabulator
Heh. MIT -> C-T-R -> IBM.-

Indeed. I am fascinated by the fact, also, that Hollerith was a mining engineer. Used to thinking in a constructive, technical fashion in one complex domain, and transfered skills to a new, nascent, one.-
Bluestein··on Grok 4.6
Now that would be a marketeable capability.-

It'd be grand if it breached SpaceX.-

Or NACA.-

Bluestein··on Controversial creators are benefiting from monetization programs run by Meta
> This already happens with some other questionable industries when reviewing applications. I know I'd be hard pressed to hire anyone with a Meta background.

Nice thought. Sure as heck will consider it now.-

Bluestein··on Controversial creators are benefiting from monetization programs run by Meta
I like your use of "attackable" (and of flaws, obviously).-

PS. F'book commoditized social interaction to their ends while abusing these attackable surfaces. Kalshi and that ilk have now done away with the whole pretense of communication itself and are abusing the same addiction mechanisms to commoditize OPINION to their ends. Opinions: Everybody has one.-

PS. At some point somebody is going to commoditize mere bodily movement wrapped into such an addictive mechanism and we will get people with "weird" performative "palsies" walking about.-

Bluestein··on Facebook is paying controversial creators to produce rage-bait content
And/or MySpace should have gone the way of F'book :)

Though I hear it might make a comeback.-

PS. To your point, I am guessing: For one thing it takes the ability to thus conclude, to begin with. THAT, in turn takes intellect and time AND evidence such as has been accruing. AND third, probably, because addictions are by definition hard to quit. ALSO: I think few times in the history of addictive behaviours has the enabling agent had such a low low low entry threshold, such presumptive innocuousness, and such assumed and granted "utility". It began by hijacking human communication, "socialization". It is devious.-

Bluestein··on Controversial creators are benefiting from monetization programs run by Meta
If I may offer: Because they have become fiendishly adept at exploiting an addictive behaviour/weakness in our brains WHILE masquerading as some sort of social utility (AND perhaps vestigially retaining some semblance of that) - which, incidentally, is what (some) originally might have been, before encrappification.-
Bluestein··on Muse Code and Muse Spark 1.2
It ain't bearing enough load, any load on this one.-
Bluestein··on Google Assistant is going away on Mobile Devices
I know I am in the minority, but the killer feature for me is (funny) a vestige from the Google Podcasts days: The "latest news" audio feed it plays back on a built-in player. You tell Assistant to "play the latest news". It plays a pre-selected roster.-

PS. Strangely it used to boilerplate back with "Here's [the/your] latest news" - now it says "Here's your news briefing" ...

... but it still works.-

I will miss that.-

Bluestein··on Amiga Graphics Archive
That's a cogent theory, also, in that I am sure many game composers used Roland hardware. So you were basically, "playing it back non-lossy" as "intended by the composer", in many ways.-
Bluestein··on Amiga Graphics Archive
> We were entering game configuration tools, and there was a choice of Roland. Supaplex had especially visible Roland choice. But nobody knew what is that Roland.

I distinctly remember this.-

PS. In retrospect I wonder how it came to be that devs actually put in the effort/resources to code for such not-so-widely adopted hardware.-

Bluestein··on Amiga Graphics Archive
I do not think the feeling one got when looking at Amiga visuals, in comparison to the state of the art then, in terms of wonder, can be described.-

Perhaps one's first contact with a GPT3-class model's chat, might be comparable.-

Indeed. Very much so. It puts a name to something that is happening.-
Bluestein··on Statement on US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5
Me neither. Concur.-

How tangibly are the whims of some narcissistic senescent orange-haired macaque actually impairing and harming billions. Directly.-

Bluestein··on Statement on US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5
I concur with all said by many on the distinct better quality of output and "feel" of Fable. Could indeed be placebo, of course.-

Two additional things are clear:

- This calls for even better ways, to objectively benchmark these systems

- Such benchmarking will get harder and harder to do in any objective way, as these systems approach actual intelligence.-

Bluestein··on Statement on US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5
I am convinced Fable is being served under Opus 4.8 at the moment.-

Bluestein··on Ask HN: Founders of estonian e-businesses – is it worth it?
I professionally have been helping folks set up and maintain e-Residence and businesses, and all said here in the comments so far tracks: Estonia is absolutely unsurpassed qua administrative ease (this giving you a clear and lasting business advantage), the tax advantages are real, and the jurisdiction only gets better.-

Banking and being scrupulous on your personal taxes at your place of personal residence are issues, but nothing insurmountable, far from it.-

Bluestein··on Show HN: Browser AI agent platform designed for reliability
I've got to say - and this in a way makes sense: The model seems to be very "URL-oriented" ...

... as in (at least in the demo, the search one) if you ask it to visit a site by name (ie. "Go go Altavista and ...," ...

... it will complain "no URL" has been provided.-

It probably has to do with the "special instructions" given to the AI for this one program/demo ...

... still.-
