Actually they literally quoted the 'food' bit. There's actually people who hunt for food, and enjoy it also.

You can fish for sport, or for food, or you can have fun/sport fishing for food.

BenjiWiebe··on uBlock Origin is giving up the fight to keep ads off Facebook
Yes it does. Hobbyists are willing to spend their own money, hence their blog doesn't need ads.

Businesses make money by selling products/services, so they don't need money.

Wikipedia is donation supported.

GP is pretty much saying - if it can only survive by running ads, let's do without it.

That's actually a 50% profit margin. Also known as a 50% markup, even though you marked the price up by 100%.
BenjiWiebe··on Should you stop cracking your knuckles?
Tripping and falling can mess you up for a long time. And I don't mean broken bones.
BenjiWiebe··on Software development with AI is starting to feel like cooking steak
A1 steak sauce. Been around for 195 years, hence the GP didn't feel the need to expand.

And they all have Firefox and LibreOffice Calc installed, so you can teach them how to use a web browser and a spreadsheet in an OS-agnostic (and DE/distro/WM-agnostic) way.
BenjiWiebe··on Decades-old fish sauce at abandoned factory in Canada finally being removed
The fish came from there too.

The ocean is salty.

And dumping manure on a field can prevent growth, if you do too much.

So I would think some degree of dilution would be a good idea before dumping it in the ocean.

BenjiWiebe··on ESP32-C3 SuperMini antenna modification
Well mostly true.

You can replace an inefficient (turns power into heat) antenna with a more efficient antenna which will then radiate more.

And some frequencies are regulated by effective radiated power, where they basically care about the strength of the signal in the strongest location, so a more directional antenna could push you over the limit.

Doesn't seem to allow port forwarding so I think you're probably good.
BenjiWiebe··on 1,741 "informed" consents with one click? GDPR complaint filed
Are they truly open, or are they captive portals? Of course, it might be possible to exfiltrate data through a captive portal network, depending on how they implement the portal.
BenjiWiebe··on Elevators
In that case, would it pay to call for an elevator going up, and then remain on it until it's being called down?

Do your neighbors have open Wi-Fi? I'm a country dweller, but when I'm in town I look at the Wi-Fi list (in horror) sometimes, and it's really rare to see an open Wi-Fi network.
BenjiWiebe··on What's That Burning Smell?
Also, btw, the 'mag' part of the breaker is irrelevant. The magnetic component is for sudden large overcurrent events, to provide a quicker break than what a bimetallic strip can do.
BenjiWiebe··on KOReader
Very true. Sorry for misreading your comment.

I thought perhaps you had a non-eink ereader and were equating eink screens with ereaders. Apologies.

BenjiWiebe··on KOReader
It wasn't obvious. My thought process was that they were equating ereaders with eink displays, and they had a non-eink ereader. To me, emitting light and reflecting light are completely different.

(I suppose I'm not supposed to feel complimented by the term 'engineer'? I'm not trained/experienced in any engineering discipline, not even software engineering.)

BenjiWiebe··on What's That Burning Smell?
The issue wasn't heat generated by excessive current, but heat generated by excessive resistance and normal current.

Mag breakers and fuses won't help. A thermal fuse could work, provided it was thermally bonded to the bad connection. So you'll need a lot of thermal fuses - one at every potential bad connection.

BenjiWiebe··on KOReader
Eink doesn't emit light.
BenjiWiebe··on DMARC has been public since 2012 but most company domains still don't enforce it
One awesome thing that SPF/DKIM/DMARC did... Now that spammers have "adapted", it means they can't say their email is from @mybank.com, or @microsoft.com, or @facebook.com, etc!
BenjiWiebe··on Glue bonds to nonstick surfaces and wipes clean with ethanol
Not a lot of whimsy and delight in having your glue joint fail because the delightful & whimsical website gave bad advice.

BenjiWiebe··on HomeLab #1: MikroTik as a Home Router
You can actually ditch the GUI and go to the command line with OpenWrt and do custom/weird/power-user stuff to your heart's content.
BenjiWiebe··on HomeLab #1: MikroTik as a Home Router
Looks like OpenWrt supports that model, so going that route would be an option of not having locked down software.

I just had double jaw surgery so I'm "eating" though a straw (or syringe).

At least I can order regular food with this.

If you see chips where a chippy is working, that's fine.

If you see sparks where a sparky is working, get a different sparky. :)

BenjiWiebe··on FDA rejects petition to set PFAS limits in food
I think people getting blood usually have lost a bunch of their own first. And blood isn't usually given just for fun, it's to save their lives, i.e. PFAS isn't a huge concern at that point.
BenjiWiebe··on Delta flight hit by firework while landing at Midway Airport on Fourth of July
Btw, flash powder (at least the pyrotechnic variety as opposed to that used for camera flashes) is actually a primary high explosive.

Primary = easy to activate, doesn't need an explosive initiator. High explosive = detonates rather than deflagrates.

And for bonus points, most flash powder is self-confining in very small quantities. Means a little pile of powder will detonate even if not enclosed.

Our dog is not ok with fireworks or gunshots. He either goes into the basement (normally off limits) or into the bedroom (mostly off limits) when he hears them.

However it also took him quite a few years to get over his fear of thunder.

I think he'll survive even though he'd be included in the 83%.
