BartSaM··on A Dinosaur So Well Preserved It Looks Like a Statue
Actually kudos to the mine workers and mine management for halting operations and letting archaeologists access the site.

The cost involved here is enormous with this, so such an operations often decide to ignore the bones instead.

BartSaM··on Grandpa Had a Pension. This Generation Has Cryptocurrency
So much hype for a crypto lately. Crypto is not a solution, it is a simple, violent and uncertain option.

If you want to bet your pension on Crypto cool, but diverse your packages. Bet amount you can lose (let say 10% of your fund). At worst you will have a more humble life when you are old.

BartSaM··on Why I left Medium and moved back to my own domain
They are available, but only in NY and one more (not sure which). I have confirmed this with their support. I am not sure if they are planning to introduce them in other regions anytime soon. I think NY is pretty much a good global location for America + Europe markets.
BartSaM··on Why I left Medium and moved back to my own domain
Probably the usual - it was new cool and convenient.

Or even $2,5 Vultr if you are on a budget.
BartSaM··on Wasabi Fire Alarm Alerts the Deaf with the Power of Scent
Both options should be complimentary to vibration. But best would be light and unique vibration. This way you can detect it no matter what you are doing.
BartSaM··on Where’s all my CPU and memory gone? The answer: Slack
...and remember that Quake 3 required 64 MB to run, while Half Life managed to run on 96 MB of ram.
BartSaM··on Amazon Hub
Paczkomaty is one of the best revolutions in the post delivery industry. So convenient.
BartSaM··on Ask HN: What language/framework do you plan to use in your next project?
The thing is, that I prefer to develop from "0". I used and use Laravel when needed, but I find more joy in creating things myself.
BartSaM··on Ask HN: What language/framework do you plan to use in your next project?
I feel like a dinosaur, but PHP and clean JavaScript... Then I will use Bootstrap for the mobile part and good looks and obviously regular SQL.

Amazing that NONE of the top 10 answers mentions things like PHP or JS, but focuses more on niche frameworks.

BartSaM··on Ask HN: HNers who got their “Show HNs” on homepage, how is your site doing now?
ALWAYS link to your site when mentioning it. You do not have enough SEO presence for me to find it or for most people to bother looking for.
BartSaM··on Where’s all my CPU and memory gone? The answer: Slack
I tried to use Slack multiple times and it is the same - laggy, slow experience that caused me to completely leave it. I would assume more from a tool praised by devs, to be honest. The whole experience was for me super negative, and it seems that Slack is mostly re-wrapped IRC, thus getting overwhelming support from IT guys in large corporations.

My laptop is only i3 with 6 GB Ram and some integrated graphics card, but I would assume this is enough to run a chat app, if the machine can flawlessly run Flash games and never cause an issue when I develop apps...

BartSaM··on Ask HN: HNers who got their “Show HNs” on homepage, how is your site doing now?
Anything really that is an improvement from "You have not reached your goal. You need to code more" or something along those lines. Any graph or even a summary would be an awesome improvement!
BartSaM··on Ask HN: How do you find clients when you have no network and can only do remote?
Sounds great! Signing up right now. I could use some side income while working on my own projects.
BartSaM··on Ask HN: HNers who got their “Show HNs” on homepage, how is your site doing now?
I use WakaTime A LOT. I wish there would be more functionality and an ergonomy though - are you focusing mainly on new platforms now? Things like email reports could use some refreshing! Keep up good work!
BartSaM··on YouTube Will Redirect Searches For Extremist Videos To Anti-Terrorist Playlists
And who will decide what is "Extremist Videos"? This is a dangerous game YT plays now. Who will decide who is a freedom fighter and who is an extremist? Who is good and who is bad?
BartSaM··on Plenty, Indoor Farming Startup, Raises $200M
You could get a wind power for example, that requires less quality space than solar.
BartSaM··on Plenty, Indoor Farming Startup, Raises $200M
Not all areas let you do this. I am talking about difficult remote, like mountain ranges, lighthouses, isles of the cost of Scotland etc. Not all remote means woods and fields around.
BartSaM··on Plenty, Indoor Farming Startup, Raises $200M
I would assume this is not for everyone. I would suspect that the main customers would be people not hooked up to the grid, that generates their own energy. As storage costs are steep, using overhead to grow plants seems like a good way to do it. Also, there are many remote areas where during winter or certain periods it is hard to access. Having your own source of vegetables might be important.

The company that develops and improves technology for in-home growing can also think about providing its solutions to space missions, including colonisation.

I doubt if the mentioned examples are worth $200M, but it might be they have an amazing business/growth plan.

BartSaM··on Ask HN: How much are you earning as a freelance app developer?
I see not many people want to associate their usernames with income info. I am a web app and mobile app developer and I make around $25K a year. This excludes any extra and side projects or gigs from other areas (marketing). I plan to increase this to $60K by starting doing niche projects soon and entirely focusing on development, but for now, I am focusing more on my side projects.
BartSaM··on Car Cost per Year - New vs Used
Ah, I thought it is the global policy of 7 years. Maybe it is 5 years in North America though.
BartSaM··on Car Cost per Year - New vs Used
It sounds like Kia (but they have 7 years warranty though) or Alfa Romeo.
