Life is too short to work with assholes if it can be helped.
I’d contest that characterization of the Bay Area - even in Santa Clara County where I live, I’ve not seen ubiquitous mask wearing.
I'm somewhat impressed by some of these stories about RAM usage - what are people doing?
This comment in the README is pretty shitty - those sorts of fixes are still valuable.
I found that tests using Enzyme/testing-library are actually more than 4x slower than unit tests, and give you far worse debugging & increased flakiness.
I no longer code outside of work though & found a happy balance of learning on the job with my productivity. I find the amount I do get to spend coding also has gone down - a lot of my time is spent mentoring, in meetings, writing planning docs, and just thinking about projects, or occasionally researching what’s the best paradigm for my problem. I am ok with this, as I am taking more joy in being a leader than directly coding necessarily. I recognize not everyone shares the same perspective though.
Even having joined a company like Snap then would've been a raw deal compared to working for the tech giants.
FWIW, before I joined my company (a FAANG), I was an engineering manager/tech lead hybrid. I ended up as a high mid-level in pay band, but being paid at just below the average of the next band up from numbers I've seen around, and currently grew it to more than most at the senior level. I may have taken two steps back on the career ladder, but I've almost tripled my compensation (in large part due to stock performance) from my startup job 3 years ago (which was already pretty high for the market for my background), and I have even more freedom in most aspects with what I get to work on & a very strong management team that supports me.
Startups can be a good deal for a founder though since VCs seem to be getting them in on the payout train too, but it just doesn't seem worthwhile enough for me otherwise to give up the gravy train for something that will likely pay less and be guaranteed to grind me to the bone.
Not sure what the point is supposed to be with "The value of creating and enabling an entire ecosystem is found to be worth 30%", and making the judgment that Apple hasn't done the same. Without some harder numbers on both sides, it's not a conclusion that anyone is in the position to make. It's also worth remembering that Apple has amassed an extremely loyal customer base that has shown that they are willing to spend an immense amount of money on App Store purchases over the period of decades - Apple does deserve to cash in on that value created such as being the single point of contact for easily addressable issues with app purchases, fraud, & such for the customer, secure & frictionless payments, and most of all, creating the situation where users want to go and spend $ on their platform over alternatives.
The value created is in developers/publishers being able to make more $, which is the ultimate value.
I have a tendency to drop my nuggets of wisdom/analysis in chatrooms in Discord and Slack (and IRC prior) and let others adopt/evangelize them on their own if it makes sense for them to. I'm ok being in the background while my true value is appreciated by those who matter for my own career.

Article 3(3) states

Being a multiplier is not about just being technically proficient. It's about enabling your whole team to be more productive, and help getting to the right decisions, instead of decisions that might cost your team or coworkers huge amounts of extra work long term.
It is much easier to accidentally create infinite loops with useEffect that you would never create with class components, and some of the code you write turns out to be more verbose and less expressive, such as when trying to diff previous and current values of state & needing to create extra state variables with useState for each such value you need to react on.
Hooks seem very appealing at first (I lean more FP than OOP in general), but the bugs and slipshod initial rollout out of beta really does not inspire much confidence. Even today I still encounter weird issues.
