BadHumans··on Lard is healthier than sunflower oil (2015)
I understand this is here because there is a subset of HN readers that are on a campaign against seed oils but the dailymail has to be in the bottom tier of places I want to read anything on, let alone about health opinions.
BadHumans··on I replaced my son's school timetable app with an e-paper
Kids are getting scheduling via apps now? The best thing my school ever did for me was give me a paper planner and teach me how to use it. I've finally reached that "back in my day" age.

It's a neat project though. I wasn't aware Soldered existed so this is a nice find.

BadHumans··on South Korea's parliament votes to impeach President over his martial law order
It's democracy until it isn't. Hitler was fairly elected.
BadHumans··on South Korea's parliament votes to impeach President over his martial law order
Instead flyover country tells the most populated areas to know their place.
BadHumans··on They see your photos
They absolutely told voters during the election they were going to destroy government. They might not have said "Project 2025 is how we are going to dismantle the government" but he said he was going to give himself the ability to remove "rogue" federal employees and overhaul or remove federal agencies.
BadHumans··on They see your photos
I agree fully but I'm going to play devil's advocate and say the person who just won the election won the popular vote so whatever you are about to get is democracy in action because the majority of people voted for what is about to happen.
BadHumans··on They see your photos
For most people, it is too taxing to be on guard 24/7 and they have other things going on in their life that are more pressing like paying rent. I don't blame people for not thinking twice about that Ring camera because unlike most open-source solutions, "it just works."
BadHumans··on They see your photos
I uploaded an old image of a keyboard PCB from when I was troubleshooting it and it gave a very detailed response including naming the keyboard the PCB comes from, the time of day the photo was likely taken, and where the photo was likely taken.
BadHumans··on South Korea's parliament votes to impeach President over his martial law order
It's entertaining in that South Koreans are taking appropriate actions in response to a takeover of the country while in the US everyone is just watching like a slow motion car crash.
BadHumans··on Elon Musk wanted an OpenAI for-profit
> When Altman was collecting the award at Cambridge the other year, protesters dropped in on the after-award public talk/Q&A session, and he actively empathised with the protestors.

I've known many CEO who will stare you right in the eye and say they hear your concerns then immediately disregard you and continue with business as usual. Being a psychopath is part of the job description.

Why is the Steam update a deal breaker?
BadHumans··on Amid cuts to basic research, New Zealand scraps all support for social sciences
Plenty of government programs that benefit the public are not cash flow positive so how do you define a positive return on investment?
BadHumans··on The FDA Hasn't Inspected This Drug Factory After 7 Recalls for the Same Flaw
> You really think that will help?

Yes.

BadHumans··on The FDA Hasn't Inspected This Drug Factory After 7 Recalls for the Same Flaw
You make it sound like you can't use money to hire more inspectors so the burden is reduced.
BadHumans··on Being overweight overtakes tobacco smoking as the leading disease risk factor
You are going to show me an example because people don't really know what morbidly obese means I've learned.

You also say fringe is being a furry as if there are 10 or 20 furries and not millions of them.

BadHumans··on Being overweight overtakes tobacco smoking as the leading disease risk factor
"People" is doing some heavy lifting here. There are some fringe people on trying to push that but most people I see are trying to explain that the main problem with obesity is that it is a food supply and class problem.
BadHumans··on PeerTube mobile app: discover videos while caring for your attention
I like PeerTube and most of Framasoft's products but like most federated software, I think they have a branding and marketing problem that prevents them from growing any bigger. Mastodon did as well and before they revised a lot of their site, no more "toots" for example. I say this knowing that they say their goal is education not growth but you need growth to reach the people you want to educate.
BadHumans··on Bankruptcy judge rejects sale of Infowars to The Onion
Elon is going to be the highest bidder if they run the process again.
BadHumans··on The Most Expensive Eating Disorder
Testosterone in the form of steroids and TRT? Not judging just curious.
BadHumans··on Google says AI weather model masters 15-day forecast
I'm friends with a meteorologist and the 15+ day forecast is the bane of their existence because you can't accurately forecast beyond a week so I would love to know how they are measuring accuracy. The article doesn't say and I know the paper is going to go over my head.
BadHumans··on Starlink's first constellation of direct-to-phone satellites is now in orbit
Something tells me Musk is not going to be on the side you think he's going to be on in that scenario.
BadHumans··on Software developer arrested in connection with murder of healthcare executive
Even if he is, it doesn't have anything to do with my point.
BadHumans··on What we know about CEO shooting suspect
He has a written manifesto in his pocket and was out eating McDonalds. It's not like he trying hard to hide
BadHumans··on What we know about CEO shooting suspect
The funniest thing about the whole thing to me is that we have had privacy taken away or even voluntarily given it up to the police state in the name of security and then this guy randomly walks up and offs a member of the 1% and the only reason he got caught was because the feds got lucky.
BadHumans··on UnitedHealth's Effort to Deny Coverage for a Patient's Care (2023)
> After redditing i found a thread where you can find a manufacturers coupon on the manufacturers website. After knowing this seemingly secret hidden trick the medicine was $50. My doctor didnt know about that, my insurance didnt either. Absolutely insane.

This is GoodRx's business model in a nutshell. I used them when I didn't have insurance and saved a ton on medicine.

BadHumans··on Browsing negative content online makes mental health struggles worse: Study
Empathy usually stops people from reading about thousands dying in war and feeling snug beneath the fireplace while doing it.
BadHumans··on Browsing negative content online makes mental health struggles worse: Study
Everything is designed to invoke negative emotions because negative emotions are engaging and engagement is money. Be less informed on international affairs and more involved in your own communities.
BadHumans··on Dickies moving its headquarters from Texas to California
People look at all manufacturing jobs disappearing as part of the reason the middle class is dead. Unfortunately, even if all of these jobs came back, few people want to pay $70 for a made-in-America shirt.
BadHumans··on TikTok divestment law upheld by federal appeals court
The companies stealing US IP don't operate in the US. ByteDance has US operations and is subject to US law.
