Absolutely amazing (the client). They released the client last year and its pretty cool what they can do with the technology, I am pretty certain that they are one of the few games that was fully ported that wasn't an indie game. Not only did they make the new client in HTML5, but it actually offers more features than the original java client (at least from what I heard, haven't played in years) If any HTML5 game of 2013 should get the award, it honestly should be this.

They aren't buying them back for use, they are buying them back to find correlations and figure out where the breach happened. The site basically allows you to buy cards from 'bases'. Each of these 'bases' are just a source of cards so if all of the cards they buy were used at the same place (which only banks will have this information on where the cards have been used), then you know that the breach is there. Along with this, I bet they also buy cards that the owners don't know are even stolen yet which means they can cancel and reissue those owners new cards without anything ever being stolen. So it is a combination of finding the breach and to also stop their customers from having all the hassle of having stolen credit cards.

that is pretty cool! let's say I wanted to do something similar with a light switch (which controls the light) and have it switchable via web at any time and have the light switch on overrides the web setting and has it on.

let,s say I wanted to also/instead add the ability to trigger the light VIA time without relying on network? (in case of unreliable network) . basically I am interesting in making an alarm clock that triggers my bed room light even if the light switch is off, what are some parts and ideas I can look up if I am interested in doing this?

To my knowledge, the camera is only recording when the sirens are on, not 100% sure if this is true so take it with a grain of salt but I don't think there will be footage.

Speculation: The dash-cam might have some type of buffer that allows for it to save the moments leading up to an officer turning on the sirens though so maybe it is saved.

Lets say that the value of a BC goes up to 1 Million USD somehow (which is REALLY unlikely), a Satoshi is still worth a penny. We understand that it can't divide infinity and yes you are right by saying it, but for this discussion, we are able to divide a bit-coin as much as needed, and besides- if it ever gets to the point (somehow) that we need to, a future protocol could fix it.

First off, he uses his personal google results, in incognito mode you wouldn't get these results (and you don't get anything related to facebook at all with this search query). Second, the term "How to quit facebook" isn't the same as "How to quit smoking" since "How to quit facebook" could be asking how to delete an account (which has nothing to do with addiction.) Third, there is a bias towards technology when using google search, things dealing with technology and especially the web will ALWAYS be higher up than searches relating to physical things, you can't use frequency of web searches as any type of statistic when comparing between a web based search and a physical based search.

So basically, this article is just as cancerous as cigarettes. Take it with a (HUGE) grain of salt.

Also, this article is pretty lame. They complain about people live tweeting other people's private issues but then they share EVERY single one of these examples with links and backstories. This is doing the exact opposite that they preach.

Basically to prove that something existed before a specific date. For instance, grab a random piece of paper on your desk with writings and then try and prove to me that the contents of that paper existed before last year, you can't really do it (easily). Before this, the only (easy) way to achieve this would be to send this document to a third party to store into a database that it did infact exist when sent to the database, but how can you prove that database wasn't manipulated? Another common way to prove something existed before a certain time would be to make a copy and send the copy through the mail to yourself. One you have received this copy from the mail, leave it unopened and now you have proof (through the mail service's date on the stamp) but this isn't too easy, some what of a hassle, and I think you could debate that you could fake it. (Faking the stamp, finding a way to get an opened document through the mail and than replacing the content later, etc.)

What this does is it stores a document's signature into the actual "history" of bitcoins which is public. ANYONE and EVERYONE can access this history of all transactions and by them storing the actual signature of the document into this public "log" you are now able to say that this document DID exist before the specific bitcoin transaction. This removes the hassle of all current methods of proving for existence and now no longer rely on a single third party (which could manipulate it themselves).

My guess is that it isn't actually the "NSA" keyword that is penalizing those articles but maybe some other type of filter. For instance, what if it instead penalizes topics basic on keywords relative to other articles? Basically a way to keep the content of the homepage fresh and unique, instead of having 6 different topics at one time on the NSA, or 6 topics on bitcoin, it instead penalizes those popular keywords to prevent a flood of similar content, with this filter actively changing based on the popular keywords at that time, If this was the case- I would actively encourage this filter, the thing that I love about HN is that it doesn't beat a dead horse.
